bind problem
I have bind running on two servers. Both servers are running bind-9.2.4-7. When I update a zone file on the primary and reload bind, the secondary receives a notify, but does not initiate an AXFR. The only way I can get the secondary to update is to delete the zone file on the secondary and restart named. Any ideas what might be wrong? Mike

OT: MySQL Help
Hello, I know this is off-topic for this list but I know someone here may be able to help me out of a jam. I ran the following against a table: ALTER TABLE `products` ADD INDEX `idx_products_model` ( `products_model` ); Some things now appear broken but don't know if this was the culprit or not. If I can revert it back it its original state I may be able to determine if it's the cause

httpd won't start
I just upgraded one of my boxes to CentOS 3.5 and for some reason, httpd won't start now. It acts like it's going to, but the process just dies. I can't find anything in my logs that would indicate a problem: >From /var/log/messages Jun 10 00:16:53 austin httpd: httpd shutdown failed Jun 10 00:16:54 austin httpd: httpd startup succeeded >From /var/log/httpd/error_log [Fri

/var partition overflow (due to spyware?) in FreeBSD default install
All: I'm posting this to FreeBSD-security (rather than FreeBSD-net) because the problems I'm seeing appear to have been caused by spyware, and because they constitute a possible avenue for denial of service on FreeBSD machines with default installs of the operating system. Several of the FreeBSD machines on our network began to act strangely during the past week. Some have started to

yum stalls <?>
I just installed a fresh 3.3 system (because those are the ISO's I had on hand). Upon running yum update, it starts to download headers and then stalls. I hit Ctl-C and it continues to download about 4-5 more headers and stalls. I hit Ctl-C again and it pulls a few more headers. Anyone seen this and/or know how to fix it? TIA Mike

Dual Opteron or Dual Xeon?
I am about to lease another server to be a backup web/mail server with a replicated mysql database. The current live server is a dual Xeon 2.8Ghz. Would I do better to get another Xeon server or an Opteron based server? My concerns are compatibility of the database and the SSL certificate currently running on the Xeon machine. Are these concerns unfounded? TIA Mike

Samba anonymous dns forwarding
Hello, we're using sambas internal DNS server. Is there a way to get rid of these messages in logfiles: /var/log/samba/log.samba: Not authoritative for 'static.ak.facebook.com', forwarding /var/log/samba/log.samba: Not authoritative for 's-static.ak.facebook.com', forwarding /var/log/samba/log.samba: Not authoritative for 's-static.ak.facebook.com', forwarding

www.centos.org and the wildcard dns
hi guys, At the moment there is a www.centos.org site. There is also a wildcard dns setup that directs anything.centos.org to www.centos.org's content This has a couple of 'issues' with SEO and google sepcifically. The reason we have such low page rank is that google marks all of this as duplicate content. I am sure there are other search engines that do as well ( Bing has a

Internal DNS Wildcard
Hi, I'm running Samba4 as a PDC using the internal DNS. I want to add another domain, so I created one under forward zone (say example.com). However, if I add a cname test I can ping and resolve test.example.com, but I can't get it to work for just example.com. I tried adding an asterisk (*) but it won't resolve. Any idea how to get this to work? Obviously, this is only for internal

samba dns
Would prefer to continue to use my NSD/Unbound installs for most DNS (if not all) services. NSD is the authoritative server for the domain, and Unbound is the cache/resolver that the clients connect to. I'd like to not disturb this setup but I'll need the SRV records so that AD works. If the SRV records are fixed I suppose I could host them using NSD, then Samba wouldn't have to be

Samba4 Internal DNS and pfSense DNS Resolver
I have implemented a small local network. I use pfSense as Firewall and Gateway, I have all my servers inside a DMZ, except the domain controllers that are on the LAN. Can the Samba internal DNS be set as authoritative only (not a resolver)? Can the Samba DNS server be set as authoritative only for the SRV zones (_tcp, _udp _msdcs, _sites) and not the parent zone? Thanks, Chris

"Semi-Authoritative" DNS?
Greetings All- I have an odd need for a 'semi-authoritative' DNS server. Let's say I have a zone for 'domain.com' with public DNS servers. However, I wanted to run an internal DNS server for internal things. Public resolution of 'www.domain.com' would yield the public IPs, private resolution of 'www.domain.com' would yield the internal private IPs. Easy enough.
