Playback/Background over Console/dsp
I'm trying to setup a primitive announcement-paging system in my house
using the line-out from my * box to a cheap amplifier that runs to
speakers on our first and second floors from the basement. I have a
extension that connects to Console, and console is set to auto-pickup.
I'm using alsa drivers.
This all works great, except for one thing. I want to play a tone over
the console after

anova with ordered groups
Hi,
I have to do a comparison among three groups of genetic transcription
levels.
I have a situation like this:
group 0: baseline
group 1: first treatment
group 2: second treatment
In the first group, I have only 2 samples, in the second one 4 samples and
in the last group I have 10 samples.
I would check if the trnascription of a gene increases from the baseline
situation to the fist treatment

Random Sampling pointers?
Hello all,
I have a population of 112 servers that are experiencing different levels of packet loss. I don't want to poll all 112 of them (the analytical tools must be manually run on each individually) so it seems best to sample among them; then I plan on using R to run comparisons of the data pulled from each one. I'm not clear on the most sound way to go about this and I don't

Zone Paging
I see a lot of chatter in the archives about intercom and paging, but
has anyone addressed zone paging? Each of the 50 telephones in a large
clinic would be members of one or more paging zones. Someone could then
page Dr. X in zone #1. Would this be possible with analog phones? SIP?
Thanks,
Mike

Can't mount dir on hdb1
Hi All,
Running Samba on a Fedora 4 machine in a mixed home environment.
Domain=[HOME-NETWORK] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.14a-2]
Trying unsuccessfully to mount the dir that's on hdb1 on another Fedora
4 machine. Can mount any dir from hda just fine. Only problem is the one
on hdb1. File permissions and everything else I can think of checking is
identical. Just refuses to mount hdb1. Here

Headsets for Cisco 7940/7960
What headsets have people found work well with the Cisco 7940 and 7960
phones? To date, I have tried a couple of the headsets within the
Plantronics H series (H41-N), and noticed that the volume of my speaking
is lower over the headset than on the regular handset. I am currently
looking for headsets that are known to work well. I do know that Cisco
lists the H-91 and H-101 as certified to

[headset/mic] Volume too low + echo in *
Hello,
I'm having the following problem when using a headset on XP
connected to an on-board Realtek soundcard on an AsusTek M2N68-AM Plus
motherboard:
- Using any sound recorder (Windows', Audacity, XLite), the level is
just too low when speaking at a conversational level, even with the
microphone level pumped all the way up (line displayed totally flat in
Recorder)

Dialplan Design Q
I have to design a dialplan for mulitple contexts (multiple companies)
and I'm not sure how to go about it and I thought someone may offer
help. Here is some background. There are three separate companies,
let's say A, B and C. Each has their own context and each has their own
set of numbers (these are just examples, not the actual config):

couple questions about supported UPSes and politics of purchase
a customer of mine needs a UPS capable of supporting a small server in his
office. Obviously, nut is a good thing for him for clean shutdown etc.
especially with the crappy quality power in his office condo.
I wanted to purchase an MGE UPS but it looks like they purchased APC and are now
flogging that product line. Now, I've never been happy with APC. I have an APC

I have encountered the following build errors after applying xapian-qp-utf8-0.9.2.patch.
There is no build error before the patch.

Can anybody tell me what I am missing?
Thanks!

can't change "client use lanman auth"?
Dear Samba-istas,
Thanks for your work on a remarkable system. I'm having a problem
dealing with a very simple system that I can't seem to figure out.
I have a disk being shared from a Windows ME machine (I know, but I
can't change that part) that I want to mount on various linux
machines. I have a redhat 7.3 system that uses smbmount "Version

Floor codebooks vs. Residue codebooks
Hi,
Please brace yourselves for some possibly stupid questions.
Why are there only 2 codebooks for floors and many more for residue values?
What makes the encoding of floor values fundamentally different from
encoding residue values?
I have a basic understanding of VQ, and looking at the floor decode
function, it all makes sense
1) Read the codebook index from the stream
2) Do a

measure smoothness
I have 3 sets of Cartesian data, one is 'original' data and the other
2 are "smoothed"data. The smoothed data is the result of applying a
smoothing algorithm to the original. One set of smoothed data is the
'old' algorithm and the other set is the 'new' algorithm.
Does R have the capability of telling me which data is "smoother"?

Anomalous outputs from rbeta when using two different random number seeds
Hi, in the code below, I am drawing 1000 samples from two beta
distributions, each time using the same random number seed.
Using set.seed(80) produces results I expect, in that the differences
between the distributions are very small.
Using set.seed(20) produces results I can't make sense of. Around half of
the time, it behaves as with set.seed(80), but around half of the time, it

Trying to define exclude with an include list
I need to backup a set of machines that are very similar in nature. I had
created an exclude list to backup everything except whats in my list. I
then used the --exclude-from=myexcludefile so rsync would not copy unwanted
files. eg:
/tmp
/var/tmp
/var/lock
.... long list of others

I have 2 drives on each machine and up until now I have no need to be backing
up the 2nd drive. Thats what the
