Just Stuck
OK, I did the deal and I am in the process of upgrading/migrating from CentOS 5.8 x86_64 to CentOS 6.2 x86_64. But, I'm stuck with a gnome GUI that only sees 1024x768. Under CentOS 5.8 it saw 1920x1080 (without much work from me). The command I was used to , system-config-display, is gone and I've read that xrandr is the replacement. I can't find a usage document on this

Upgrade of Centos 4.1 with 4.2 ISO disc
Can I upgrade my Centos 4.1 system with the 4.2 ISO install disc? If so, how do I do it? It seams to want to do a full (i.e. format, wipe out old) install over everything. I do not want to lose my various configurations (e.g. kppp, kde desktop settings, etc) that I have already set up under 4.1. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS after removing a DC and WERR_BADFILE when trying to remove broken DC
Situation: Trying to upgrade Samba from 4.1 to 4.5 without disruption too much by adding new DCs and demoting old ones. After bringing online the first 4.5 DC, I ran `demote --remove-other-dead-server=` on that DC to remove one of the old 4.1 DCs (held no FSMO roles). That seemed to run fine (the DC had been offline for a few weeks at that point and I didn't want to restore it just for

KDE Screen Saver and Centos 4.3
In Centos 4.1 I am having to user the Xscreen saver as a work around due to the KDE screen saver not working properly. Has the KDE screen saver been fixed/updated in Centos 4.3, or do you still need to use xscreensaver instead? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Centos 5 Live CD
I just tried the Centos 5 Live CD on my Thinkpad T41. It works pretty good but did not recognize my Laptop's modem or WiFi (I guess no surprise there). I do have a CardBus modem that is not a Win-modem that I could try when I get home. I did not see anyway to configure a PPP dialup call. Is there a way to run kppp or Gnome's equivalent? -------------- next part -------------- An

Gnome Logouts -- are very slow or they hang -- 2nd post
! I just installed Centos 4.1 (i386) on one of my test drives. When ever I try to logout of a Gnome session, it seems to hang but if I wait about 4-5 minutes it will usually logout, although I have had it hang a couple of times (never logs out). When I do an ALT-TAB-F1, and log in as 'root', I can see the following processes still hanging around after Gnome finally does logout:

Sound Events in Gnome
In Centos 4.1: The sound events in Gnome see to sort of work. The start up (login) wave file however never plays. Various event sounds once logged in do seem to work. The logout wave file barely gets a few notes off before the final exit back to the login screen occurs. What could be causing the startup/logout sounds from not working correctly? Is there a work around for this?

E-volved Cultures screensaver
Hello all. The best screensaver of all time in my opinion is E-volved cultures, available here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~notnot/E-volverLUMC/screensaver.html Not only are the images it creates highly aesthetic, but they can seamlessly tile, so they are perfect for many applications. My current desktop was generated by this screensaver. I've tried everything though and it won't show up. I

Script for enabling screen savers in GNOME and KDE on Centos 5.x
Hi Friends, I am trying to configure screensavers settings on Gnome and KDE running Centos 5.x 32-bit environment. I need to prepare a script which will be push by Puppet and this script should be able to change settings like idle_delay, set customized password-protected screen saver, enabling lock etc.. I have tried below commands for Gnome and somehow the settings are not taking place. The
