Reading SPSS .por files
Does anyone know how to read SPSS .por (ie Portable) files? The foreign package only deals with SPSS .sav files and not with those with a "por" extension.

I am having difficulty installing the package "lattice".
First I tried downloading it from the CRAN site (in the normal way) :
the message said it worked but when I typed library I got an error
message ("there is no package").
Second I tried installing it from the local zip. I have reproduced the
result below.

Still more auth problems
Firstly can I ask when the documentation site will be online again? I'm
struggling here without it.
Further to my recent post I have tried to simplify things a little.
I have used a VoiceXML app to simple call an asterisk extension. EG:

Quarterly data in PLM package
Dear all,
Does anyone know if the PLM package (to run Panel Data Analysis) accepts quarterly data?
The package vignette and documentation only use annual data -and the only time index available seems to work for years.

building recommended packages on Windows
Hi,
I am building 2.1.0 (re-release version, if that matters) on a Windows XP
machine. Following the instructions 3.1 "Building from source" in
R-admin.html, I managed to get up to 3.1.6. But when I try to build the
recommended packages, I get
C:\hiro\codes\proj\R-2.1.0\src\gnuwin32>make recommended

rd2dvi bug on windoze?
hi,
can anyone confirm the following problem? when i do
dos> rcmd rd2dvi --pdf my-package-name
i get
dos> Can't open perl script "c:\PROGRA~1\r\rw1091/bin/rd2dvi": No such file or directory
might the problem be in (double back slashes rather than forward slashes)

using eval-parse-paste in a loop
R-helpers
I have 120 small Excel sheets to read and I am using
library(xlsReadWrite): one example below.
I had hoped to read sheets by looping over a list of numbers in their
name (eg Book1.xls, Book2.xls, etc).
I thought I had seen examples which used eval-parse-paste in this way.
However, I have not been able to get it to work..
1. is this a feasible approach?

indications.c: Can't generate that much data!
Linux 2.6.20, asterisk 1.2.23, mISDN 1_1_5, Digium B410P BRI card.
When calls come in via ISDN the destination phone does ring but the
caller hears no ringing tone, once the SIP phone is answered everything
works as expected. Calls from SIP phone to SIP phone internally do let
the caller hear a ringing tone.
With full asterisk logging enables the logs show:

New Pico-ITX
Powerful enough to run a small asterisk server though not sure if the
drop down in size from a mini-atx or a micro-atx but I'm sure someone
will try.

I have a Data Set x and I want to check with a Kolmogorow-Smirnow-Test, if x comes from a Subbotin Distribution, whose density function is:

Retrieving original data frame after repetition
Dear R users,
Consider the first two columns of a data frame like this:

but run in to the next one, see below.
It has created files in /contrib/R-2.4.0. there is an " R " under
/contrib/R-2.4.0/bin/R.

Chicken and egg question: passwd and cronjob
Hi all,
Let's say I activate password expiration for every account (including
root) for every 90 days.
I understand that cronjob for root will fail when the password expires.
The question is, if I setup a cronjob every 90 days to renew the root
password like: echo diFficulT123 | passwd --stdin root
will it work?
I mean at second 1 on the 90th day, which will run first?

Changing Host Name
Thanks to all of you who are answering my dumb questions about my new
CentOS instgallation.
I modified /etc/hosts, as the hostname man page seemed to suggest, and
rebooted. The hostname is still localhost. I want to change it to
jjb-centos. I also want to change the domain name to abilitiessoft.com

Dovecot GUI
Is there a web-interface to dovecot under CentOS-6?
I want to create a top-level folder
(ie at the same level as Inbox)
but this doesn't seem to be possible
from KMail running on a remote Fedora-6 laptop.
I was browsing through the dovecot wiki,
and I saw some pictures which seemed to be from a dovecot GUI,
but I could not find the name of this program.
Alternatively, can I simply create

good shell script examples?
I am looking for a beginner guide to shell scripting simple tasks on CentOS
(e.g. ssh'ing into a server / router / switch, checking for certain things,
then exiting and going to the next IP).

Mixed models
Hello Folks,

A query about na.omit
Dear all,
Say I have the following dataset:
> DF
x y z
[1] 1 1 1
[2] 2 2 2
[3] 3 3 NA
[4] 4 NA 4
[5] NA 5 5
And I want to omit all the rows which have NA, but only in columns X and Y, so that I get:
x y z
1 1 1
2 2 2
3 3 NA
If I use na.omit(DF), I would delete the row for which z=NA, obtaining thus
x y z
1 1 1
2 2 2
