xfs module not loading
I'm trying to add XFS and ReiserFS to CentOS, integrating with Kickstart. I think I'm fairly close. I've added xfs.ko and reiserfs.ko to modules.cgz in initrd. Several of my partitions now specify --fstype=xfs. I can see tty5 mkfs.xfs is creating the XFS file systems. The system currently installs completely via kickstart, but it does not mount the XFS file systems while in the

file system defragmentation
I've read in many places that file systems on Linux do not suffer the same fragmentation problems of Windows systems. No one has provided a clear explanation as to why fragmentation is not an issue for file systems such as ext2/3, reiserfs, xfs, etc. Just curious.

ReiserFS and CentOS
RedHat has stripped out support for ReiserFS in their enterprise Linux products. It appears the unsupported CentOS kernel supports ReiserFS. Doesn't anaconda and the kickstart boot kernel also need to be enhanced to support ReiserFS as well? thanks for any help.

Samba on ReiserFS
Dear Listmembers, I try to work with samba (newest rpm for SuSE, 3.0.1.pre2, but that does not matter, the effect was there in 2.2.7 and 2.2.8a too) on an sufficient armed system (the system does not matter either, I have tried it on different machines) using ReiserFS (version 3.6.4-12). When accessing one share from one machine (i.e. copying two or more files at a time to or from the share)

Ext3fs/ReiserFS Performance Enhancing
Hello All, I have been doing some research to find a method to increase the performance of writes to the hard drives in my servers. I am running Samba and all writes to the server hard drives are taking at least 3 to 10 times (It varies) the amount of time it took to write such files on our older Windows NT 4.0 File Server. The following information is provided to keep this issue on track...

slowdown and reiserfs
hi i got 2 questions and maybe someone could shed some light: a) i'm using kernel 2.4.17 and use ext3 in it. is it possible that the whole system is slower than with ext2? i switched back to ext2 (great feature!!!) and the system's response seemed somewhat better. should/could there be such a effect as double writing of journaled data? i didnt activate debugging (jbd). b) is reiserfs

Is it possible to use wine with a journaling filesystem?
Hi there, I installed my mandrake linux 8.1 with reiserfs. I would like to use wine without my windows partition. Now I see the following text in the wine man-page: --- format: Filesystem=<fstype> default: "win95" Used to specify the type of the file system Wine should emulate on a given directory structure/underlying file system. Supported types are "msdos" (or

Kickstart, package always selected
I'm trying to kickstart a Centos 4.1 system with the minimum set of packages. I have no use for ypbind so I'm trying to prevent from being installed, but kickstart/anaconda always insist on its installation (complaining that the package is missing). This is the %packages section of my ks file so far: %packages #-@ dialup kernel grub e2fsprogs lvm2 -slocate -bluez-utils -bluez-bluefw

File Systems - Which one to use?
We are looking at implementing a Linux box running samba in the near future with about 1TB of disk online. The purpose of this box will be for basic file and printer sharing needs. I am doing research on the different journaling file systems avaible in RH 7.3 and up (ext3, reiserFS, and JFS) and was wondering if anyone has had any real world experience with them (mostly reiserFS and JFS) and

kickstart, no dhcp reply received.
I'm trying to kicktart a CentOS 4.3 x86_64. However, anaconda is unabled to do dhcp, complaining about"no DHCP reply received". While tailing the log on the dhcp server, I clearly see a request come in and address is offered. This same machine kicks fine with CentOS 4.1 (32-bit). Since anaconda could potentially use a different NIC (this system contains 2 NICSs), I've tried

Re: [linux-lvm] lvm deadlock with 2.4.x kernel?
I think I have this one solved, I hope. I think what Andreas and I are running into are a few different assertions. One being the LVM lvm_do_pv_flush caused assertion which is related directly to invalidate_buffers() being called which then triggers refile_buffer() on a journaled buffer, which appears clean in all other ways according to the checks in refile_buffer(). The following is what

xfs and centosplus kernel
I read that XFS has problems with 4K Stack size for Linux on 32-bit systems. How did we address this in the centosplus kernel? Since what release of CentOS was this problem resolved? Is there a quick way to know what size the Linux stack is configured to be in a system's that's running? Thanks for your help. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
