httx, iiimf, and Japanese input still not working
Japanese input - the final frontier. This is the last obstacle before I can work completely within Centos and be free of Windows. But it's still not working. To cut to the chase, in my quest to get Japanese working, I came across the following: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-i18n-list/2004-November/msg00030.html ... where someone says: "You need to have httx (htt_xbe) running

Where should my Xdefaults file be?
Apparently in order to get Japanese input working, I need to edit my Xdefaults file. By hunting on the web, I've read that I can create my own Xdefaults file, but it's been very difficult to determine where I should create it. I simply want to add the following line to this file: *inputMethod kinput2 ... so that Japanese input will be enabled. I want this setting to be global for all

VNCServer Startup Config
hi all, I've inherited a server with CentOS 6.4 the VNC Server starts up with the OS and its screen resolution is set to 800x600. I found that I can set the resolution by specifying the -geometry switch, but I can't find where the call to start the vncserver is set in order to change it. I know that it's not in /etc/xinetd.d (the only file there is rsync) here are the contents of

VNC vs GNOME desktop
I'm trying to use VNC to connect my home Centos box (up to date centos 5) to my Centos 4 (also up to date) at work. I have no problem connecting. The problem occurs after logging in, for every applet in the bottom Gnome panel I get an error box from which I can choose to remove the applet from the panel, or just go on. I choose to not delete but to just go on. After I get a half dozen or so of

vnc on C7
Thanks Frank. The below in fact worked and restarting the service. Jerry To get mate to show up use the follow text in your ~.vnc/xstartup file: #!/bin/sh # Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop: # unset SESSION_MANAGER unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS # exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc [ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup [ -r HOME/.Xresources ]

"Decent" sub-$100 SIP phone.
Hey, all. I quoted a customer about $100 for some cheap SIP phones. I was planning on using the BT-102's, but he called said they look like "Princess phones," and I have to admit that he has a point. Some of the other inexpensive phones look decent, but (for example) the SPA-841's wiki entry says the remote end gets a lot of static. Since it'll be being used from a noisy

CentOS Errata and Security Advisory 2005:xxx This is 'rest of the U1 level updates'. Notable still missing anaconda, but everything else should be there now. ? about portable version of sshd crashing
I am porting over the portable version of openssh to our uCLinux implementation. Everything has worked with minimal effort and I appreciate all the work. But, I am having a problem whereby the sshd executable is crashing and I really could use some help on where to look at this in more details. Here is how I start up the sshd for testing. /usr/sbin/sshd -D -ddd -f /etc/ssh/sshd_config -p 65

installing an add-on package
Dear all, my apologies if I am posting a silly question - but I couldn't find any helpful information on this elswhere. In the R FAQ, version 1.8-1, there is a section "5.2 How can add-on packages be installed?", but it only gives information for Unix users. How can I install an add-on package under Windows? (Specifically, I have downloaded the "rmeta" package from CRAN.)

another missing link in febootstrap; failing tests for libguestfs
After the last round of patches to febootstrap, the image-based test in libguestfs still failed. It turned out that this happens because Debian started replacing /var/run and /var/lock with symlinks that point to a tmpfs mounted to /run. The symlinks were copied to the appliance but /run/lock did not exist, so pvcreate refused to run (script 'images/guest-aux/make-debian-img.sh'). After I
