failing rake task
I''m running rspec and rspec on rails in svn external so I am running
the latest version of the trunk. Recently the rake spec task started
braking the continuous integration server because the rake aborted. I
checked my local and it ran with the same behavior.. and all of the
devs on my team are now experiencing the same problem. All the spec''s
are passing, but the rake task is

Model Specs: Fixtures vs Mocks + Stubs?
What is the general opinion about fixtures versus mocking and stubbing
in model specs? I heard from agile on IRC that they save the database
testing for integration testing, but I also see that the caboose
sample applicaiton uses fixtures. I also noticed that on the rspec
site, it says "Ironically (for the traditional TDD''er) these are the
only specs that we feel should actually

Problems with RESTfully generated helpers
I am using helper the RESTfully generated helper methods in my views.
My routes are nested so the helpers appear to need arguments passed to
them, but it works without arguments. Say for example I have pages and
comments. If I do page_comments_path without parameters, it works.
However, when I run the rspec test, it fails and tells me i''m missing
parameters. I tried to pass

How to extend common helper methods to view specs?
Hi, there,
I have some methods which I have written as helpers.
They are in spec/support/controller_macros.rb (yes, I will change the
name soon).
The 2 methods, login_user and login_admin_user works in the
controller specs BUT fail to work in the view specs when I call them
in the view specs.

Testing layouts with RSpec on Rails
Hey guys,
Does anyone have any wisdom to share on the subject of speccing Rails
layouts?
Most of it''s plain old view specs stuff, but are there sensible ways
to verify things like the yield call? (Mocking doesn''t catch that)
Thanks,
Matt

Can Rspec do module spec? What if module uses test data?
Dear fellows:
I am currently working on writing specs on some ruby modules(e.g.
myModule). At first I try to use script/generate to generate rspec_module,
but it failed. :-(
Later I manually created a file (e.g. named myModule_spec.rb) and put
the ''require ....spec_helper.rb'' as the first line of code followed by
''describe'' block. Luckily, it seemed to

Rails 2.0 Preview Release and RSpec Trunk
Hi all,
For those of you checking out the Rails 2.0 preview release:
RSpec-1.0.8 does not support Rails 2.0.
Unfortunately, we''re in the middle of some big changes to the
internals in trunk and won''t be in a position to do a release for
another week or so. Therefore, if you are using the Rails 2.0 preview,
you''ll need to use the RSpec trunk.
Additionally, right now

RSpec 0.9.4
RSpec 0.9.4 has just been released. Gems haven''t rsync''ed around the
globe yet, so you might have to wait a few hours to install it.
The big news this time is Spec::Ui 0.2.0, which has been released
along with RSpec core. This RSpec extension gives you custom Watir
matchers (custom Selenium-RC matchers are not implemented yet).
Moreover, it comes with a custom KICK ASS formatter

should_receive, used in the wrong place?
What do you guys think of this: if someone calls should_receive
outside of an "it" block, it warns you.
before(:each) do
@foo = Foo.new
@foo.should_receive(:monkeys)
end
would warn you that you''re setting an expectation in the wrong place,
and that "stub" is correct when setting up objects.
Opinions?

Living Dangerously?
how can I get the benefits of integration testing with Rspec on Rails
REL_0_6_3, please?
When I first started playing with Rspec on Rails, I hacked
spec_helper.rb to include the IntegrationTest interface (diff below) as
it was the minimum change I could make to get the the ability to run
multiple actions across controllers in my spec. I use it to specify
authenticated sessions and stuff.

Rails view spec expectations/matchers
>From looking at the RSpec Rails documentation
(https://www.relishapp.com/rspec/rspec-rails/docs/view-specs/view-spec) it
seems like rendered is just a string and you can''t really do any
assert_select type stuff out of the box.
After Googling around, it seems that the RSpec authors decided that if you
want that functionality, you should just use Capybara or some such... is

I''m new to rspec and was wondering if there is a quick setup to get it to
work with autotest, sans rails.
Thanks

action_web_services error with rspec_on_rails
I now have two specs in my rails project which correspond to one
rails controller. I can run them individually and they pass, but
running them together (either with the rake task just putting both
files on the command line):

rSpec (rev 2996), Rails (rev 8214): TextMate bundle problems
Hey guys,
I''m trying to get rSpec (rev 2996) working with Rails 2 (rev 8214).
Running the tests from the command line works, no problem.
I installed the RSpec.tmbundle (also rev 2996), and would like to see
the HTML test results in TextMate. When I run the "Run examples in
selected files/directories" command in TextMate, I get the following

Rspec not loading fixtures
I am taking over a code base and am trying to run the tests. I am
somewhat new to RSpec so this might be a trivial problem.
Basically I can tell that the fixtures are not getting loaded. All 100
tests fail with a similar error.
But I don''t know why. Below is the code, with my narrative with ***
before it... Can you see anything or give me a clue where to look. So

How to stop Rspec loading my Cucumber fixtures
I have a bunch of fixtures designed to populate the database for my Cucumber
integration tests.
But at this stage I want my database to be empty when using Rspec.
So, I moved the fixtures from `/spec/fixtures` to
`features/support/fixtures`, and updated `features/support/env.rb` to read:
Fixtures.reset_cache
fixtures_folder = File.join(RAILS_ROOT, ''features'',
