Large scale Rails deployments
Hi, I''m currently helping out with a large scale rails application deployment. The idea is to have an apache 2.2 with mod_proxy serving out to a farm of mongrels distributed on N number of servers. We''ll also have some Starfish nodes doing processor intensive tasks distributed on N number of servers as well. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of managing and

Large-scale Asterisk deployments: VON panel
I'd like to float the idea of a VON panel discussion for large-scale open-source deployments, specifically using Asterisk as an application service and as a gateway service. In order to do that, I'd need to get a list of panelists together who might be interested in speaking. If you manage an installed base of >1000 users, and you're using Asterisk, I'd be interested in

large scale paging
Has anyone done any large scale intercom deployments with Asterisk? I've been asked about building a system to one-way page 500 phones simultaneously from a single server. My concerns are: - My limited math capabilities suggest 41 Mbps of RTP traffic, which seems like a lot, plus asterisk would be taking a single input stream and exploding it out to 500 endpoints. - There are 500

Large-scale voicemail deployment: any experiences?
Hello - I'm looking for a cross-section of your experiences for large-scale voicemail system deployment using Asterisk, where "large scale" means 500 active users or more with PRI channel access. I have a situation that may call for an extremely large stand-alone voicemail installation, and I while I have faith that Asterisk can handle almost any load if correctly designed,

RE: SNOM 190 '486/Busy here' after upgrade to re 3.60s
AHA! # 1 is the case! Seems the user was fooling around with the phone after the firmware upgrade. Shame that that setting couldn't be locked out. Thanks to Mr Tahir and Mr Stredicke for their spot on responses. -----Original Message----- From: Usman Tahir [mailto:Usman.Tahir@snom.de] Sent: Friday, September 23, 2005 12:34 AM To: ColinA@landmarkmasterbuilder.com Cc:

My Phone Review- Large Scale Corp Deployment.
I have had the opportunity to test many IP phones in the last 6 months and I thought you might enjoy a quick review of what I have found. Grandstream Budgtone 200 - Poor Quality for business use- Looks good, and the handset feels nice, buttons have a decent feel, but the disply is difficult to read when you are not directly over head of the phone, plus the sound quality of the handset, and

Large scale ZFS deployments out there (>200 disks)
While thinking about ZFS as the next generation filesystem without limits I am wondering if the real world is ready for this kind of incredible technology ... I''m actually speaking of hardware :) ZFS can handle a lot of devices. Once in the import bug (http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6761786) is fixed it should be able to handle a lot of disks. I want to

Thoughts on storage infrastructure for small scale HA virtual machine deployments
Hi, up until now I've always deployed VMs with their storage located directly on the host system but as the number of VMs grows and the hardware becomes more powerful and can handle more virtual machines I'm concerned about a failure of the host taking down too many VMs in one go. As a result I'm now looking at moving to an infrastructure that uses shared storage instead so I can

FrameMaker/MIF driver
Hello - 1. Is there any way to directly export R plots to MIF format for import into FrameMaker? 2. If not, how hard would it be to add such a device driver? I don't see device driver docs in the R extensions docs. Are drivers contained in their own source files with simple interfaces to the data structures with plot data? 3. If that's difficult, what workarounds are

Array Help
Hi, I have two 3 D arrays. Both are of this form array_1<- array[n,n,k] array_2<-array[m,m,k] Lets say n=83 and m=80 Since n>m. I would like to add rows and columns to array_2 to make them equal. I want to keep the size of the third dimension fixed i.e.. k. i.e. if (nrow(array_1)>nrow(array_2)) { array_2[m:n,m:n,]<- 10^6 } But this doesn't work. I tried abind and rbind but

How do you ensure safety from errors/bugs in large deployments?
Hello all, This is not a puppet proper issue of course.. but I was wondering if any of you could share some thoughts... When you deploy a system like Puppet at a large park of systems, you instantly increase the efficacy of mistakes and bugs in destroying the environment.... How do you deal with that? I would be interested in any experience or input, especially puppet proper best practices...
