Redirect\Cookie bug with MSIE 5.5sp2
Hello all, There seems to be a bug in internet explorer 5 where a redirect causes the session to be lost. A controller says.... def login case @request.method when :post if @session[:user] = User.authenticate(@params [:user_login], @params[:user_password]) return redirect_to(:action=>''send_confirmation'') unless

Typo in Apache docs causing MSIE problems?
Someone contacted me earlier today and pointed out this typo in the mongrel apache documentation: "the following line: BrowserMatch bMSIE !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html must be written instead as: BrowserMatch \bMSIE !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html The effect of this typo is that files that are not caught by previously listed rules, such as all *.css and *.js files are never deflated for MSIE

How to instruct Wine to use MSIE rendering engine by default instead of Gecko?
Hi, I need to debug some complex Javascript that leaks in MSIE (no leaks in Firefox though). For this purpose, I am trying to utilize programs like Drip and sIEve. Both programs fail under Wine, and my guess is, they try to use Gecko as the rendering engine (and this is not what's desired: Gecko works fine with my stuff). Now, provided that MSIE can be installed under Wine, and works, can

Multiple (AJAX) Observers on the Same Field and MSIE
I have been using multiple observers, i.e., observe_field(), on the same input field and relying on them to execute in the same order that they appear in the page. This has been working fine in FireFox, but it does not seem to work in MSIE; the requests come in and are processed in a different order. Now, I''ve always been a little hesitant about using this technique, but it always

STOP PAYING FEDERAL TAXES - LEGALLY!
I down loaded the Acrobat Reader but I still cannot view the form 1192 W-8 Certificate of Foreign Status. Maybe I'm not following the instuctions correctly or something stupid. Can you e-mail me back a copy of this form so I can read it and see how to follow up on federal tax avoidance? I might purchase your product if you can better convince me on how to legally get it done.

OFF TOPIC: "Scientific rigor proponents retract paper on benefits of scientific rigor"
This is off topic and only tangentially related to statistics or R (through "HARK"ing -- Hypothesizing After Results are Known). But given the research interests of many on this list, I thought others would enjoy it. My apologies if I have overstepped (please let me know if so). Also, PLEASE DON'T RESPOND ON THIS LIST (privately is fine). This is just FYI. I don't know whether

R-beta: R and Copyright clarifications
As soon as Mike Meyer can get to it, I've asked him to make some minor changes in the S archive so that I can make it clear that permission for porting the Hmisc and Design libraries to R is denied. I don't have anything against R personally as a subset of S-PLUS. I just have only so much time and I don't want to spend any of it helping R users when I have no plans to install R

getting R-readable data , not pictures, from US OTS "data" pages
Does anyone know offhand if the OTS has an FTP site or other pages off in a corner somewhere to make data downloading and integration with R easy? They have mailing lists to which you can subscribe that announce new data but then you get these things like PDF files with tables of numbers and the PR releases don't obviously have links to related csv or other data files. For example,

High Volume US Traffic? Claim DIP Compensation!
This could be a nice opportunity for users with a high volume of SIP traffic terminating in the US: Collecting dip fees on outbound phone calls - fees that would otherwise go to the local phone company. With all the recent fees and surcharges, the cost of wholesale telecom and dialer traffic keeps rising. But what many companies with a high volume of IP based voice traffic don't realize
