FXO module in TDM400P (UK, BT) - Hangup
Thanks for the suggestion. I have busydetect=yes in zapata.conf.
You refer to "Martin's algorithm". Can you provide more details please?

hangup detection
So I made the mistake of buying a Carrier Access channel bank without
noticing the page on the wiki about the fact that they don't support
disconnect supervision (bastards!). However, apart from that, I do have
it working fine for incoming calls.
Is there some trick to get asterisk to detect the hangup tones from
SBC? I've tried busydetect and callprogress as suggested, but neither

Zapata FXO always answers call?
I have some X100P connected to my analog PBX. When I want to call an
analog extension on that PBX I use the following rule:
exten => _21XX,1,Dial(Zap/g1/${EXTEN:2},20)
where 21 is just a prefix to indicate it?s an analog extension and XX
matches the real two digit extension number. (this is why I strip of two
digits when dialing Zap/g1. Well, everything works fine, except that *

No RED/GREEN alerts on TDM400P?
I replaced my X100P cards with two TDM04B fully populated (8 FXO
modules). They are working fine, I can make and receive calls, but I
noticed all modules are always in GREEN state, even if I disconnect the
line. Both zttools and a cat /proc/zaptel/<device> shows no RED alarm.
Is there a workaround for this?

Areski CDR graph incorrect
Is anyboby using the areski CDR reporting tool?
I have installed asterisk-stats v1.2 three days ago, but I found a
possible bug in it. My calls compare graphic shows most of the on the
calls at first hours past midnight, and it never logs anything after
lunch time. This is wrong, my calls are made on business hours. The call
log lists those calls at the right time.
Is there

NetworkWorld article on Open Source Telephony
An interesting article for those needing ammunition to sell Asterisk within

smallest phone
Folks,
I'm looking for a SIP or IAX phone for field techs to take with them
when out on service calls. The regular desktop phones are just way too
big. Is there anything like the size of a full-sized cell phone? Or
smaller, not I doubt that...

tc qdisc replace failing
Hi,
Having issues getting a replace command working correctly. The error reported
is "RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument" which isn''t descriptive or helpful.
The command i''m running is:
tc qdisc replace dev ppp0 parent 8001:D handle D: tbf rate 5Kbit burst 5kb
latency 70ms
The idea being to replace an sfq with handle D and hopefully limit a certain

Server response time
Hey Guys,
I am considering leasing a new server in Germany to run my Asterisk
infrastructure and I was wondering how response time would affect the
performance of the system. Right now I have a response time of around
60-70ms with my server in California. The server in Germany would have a
response time of around 140ms (both ways). My DID/Termination providers
are in Canada and the USA, and

Multiple bands with equal priority ?
I''m trying to build a wan latency test environment, where packets
from different "remote" locations get delayed by different amounts
of time, depending on which remote location we''re pretending they
are from.
Currently, I''m doing this using the ''prio'' qdisc to obtain multiple
bands, and hanging a different netem qdisc off each of the branches

Lartc & Squid
hi all,
We are using squid 25s1 with kernel 2.4.19 and iproute2(+julian''s
Pathes) with the following acl..
acl short_path dst 128.0.0.0/8
tcp_outgoing_address myIp2nd short_path
we are linked to 2 isp--one having satelite & the other OFC. We want the
above mentioned network to go thru OFC(ispB) as the sibling resides
there. But when i use squidclient mgr:server_list

Question about ERB performance
I''m trying out rails 3 and I''m looking at the performance statistics
given by WEBrick.
It says many of my database operations are taking 2ms or 7ms... but
the view is taking 40ms. People often say that the database is the
bottleneck in applications (which it most certainly can be, and often
is)... but isn''t the rendering of ERB a little show here? My test

What is acceptable network latency for voipconnection?
That "program" will be detected by your ISP within a day or so,
determined to be a virus, and your service will get disconnected...which
n turn will not help your latency or jitter at all.
VoIP can tolerate a fair amount of latency; latency over about 100ms is
heard as a perceptible delay resulting in a connection that appears to
be half duplex.
Jitter, on the other had, is the real

tbf token help
Hi all!
I just started to experiment with bandwidth management using tbf.
I have the folowing problems with token understanding:
1) What unit is token? Is "1 token = 1 byte" ?
If this is so, then with rate=0.5mbit and HZ=100 the bucket gets filled
with 0,64kb (655 tokens) every 10ms?
2) How much tokens are used for one packet (1500)?
3) And token unrelated question. Does

slightly OT: VoIP more expensive than Call-By-Call
Hi,
is it just me, or are the VoIP providers for Germany more expensive than
going via call-by-call?
sipgate.de lists a price of 1.76ct a minute, a couple of call-by-calls
are listed at 1.3ct-1.5ct a minute.
Did anyone else thought this to be strange?
What about other countries? Same thing?!
It seems to me, VoIP providers only make sense for headquarter to
subsidiary, but not for regular

Algorithmic delay
Hi,
I tried hunting for the algorithmic delay of vorbis, but searching
Google for "vorbis algorithmic.delay" just gives a lot of hits about the
delay in speex. :-\
I'm wonder what the delay would be, using vorbis for high quality
conferencing VoIP.

How to set the jitter buffer
Hi!
I just wondered if anyone would mine posting their successful jitter
buffer settings here for me if they get a moment ??
I've spent a few hours trying to set the jitter buffer up reasonably
logically and can definitely tell it makes a difference and can introduce
latency and echo if setup incorrectly but I can't see a good post anywhere
describing properly what the three settings
