zaphfc and ASUSCOM working in the US
I finally got my ASUSCOM (Cologne chip) ISDNLink card working here in
the US.
When a call arrives, I get "Unknown IE 42 (Unknown Information Element)"
and "Unknown IE 21 (Unknown Information Element)".
IE 21 (0x15) is defined as Q931_CALL_STATE_SUSPEND_REQUEST. IE 42
(0x2a) is not defined in the code and I couldn't google it.
Is this something perculiar with ISDN in

allowing users to issue the "shutdown" command
I am running CentOS 5.3 and have just the two accounts "root" and
"buz". I would like to be able to issue "shutdown" from the account
"buz", and thus created
/etc/shutdown.allow with the single entry "buz" (without any quotes).
I still
get the error message "only root can do this" (or something similar)

Help 60Hz Hum?
Hey guys,
I am trying to diagnose a hum in my FXO lines
I am using an Adtran 750 with 8 FXO ports. I am getting a pretty bad hum
on the line during a call.
I have checked the Telco side of the 66 block and there is no hum there
so it's my problem to fix.
I have tried to lower the gain but that reduces the call volume to much.
Where else should I be looking?
Setup as follows

Hum/bux on line
Rich Hi,
After Qwest pronounced my circuits as within spec. (yes, disconnected
from the house) I listened on the lines with my butt set. Clear of all
noise and hum. I then got my box of Cat3 and laid a circuit around the
outside of the house and into my lab. Still clear of all noise and hum.
I then connected the circuit to the Adtran and made a call. Lots of
hum and buzzz.
As I said,

Adtran TA750 Noise
All,
I need help.
I have an (actually 2) Adtran TA750's with 8 FXO ports. I get a terrible
buzz on every FXO port. If I unplug the Adtran and put an analog phone
on each incoming line, I have no buzz.
I also have 2 Carrier Access Access Bank I's with 12 FXO ports. When I
plug the same analog lines into either one of those, no noise or buzz
whatsoever.
I went so far as to move the TA750

PSTN line quality
I'm looking for some input from someone with real experience of
telephony. I am having problems with the sound quality on our PSTN line
calls. Our channel banks are Adtran 600 and 750 and I spent a lot of
time on the phone with Adtran trying to work out the problem.
We are getting hum and noise and very low volume on calls. I can
increase the gain in zapata.conf but that increases the echo

system clock
I am running CntOS 5 with Gnome. Every now and then I have noticed
that the computer will somehow get the time wrong by several hours. Is
there a simple way to adjust the time? So far the only way I have found
is to boot into windows (it is a dual boot system), make the change
there, and then get back into CentOS. Older versions of Red Hat and
Fedora let you do it by right-clicking on

Hard Ground (On Ring)
We have been experiencing static noise on one of our phone lines
connected to our Adtran Total Access 750 which is then connected to a
T100P card. I was convinced that, after rain storms, the static would
get worse, it was surely a problem of Verizon's. Verizon sent a field
rep out today and he told our secretary (I was busy) that there was a
hard ground on the Ring portion of the line.

problem installing CentOS 5.3
I have a small fixed ip network at home, running red hat 9 on two
amd k6 500 Mhz boxes. One has 256 M memory and the other 320 M. They
pretty much meet my needs, but lately I have detected that the internet
sites
I frequent are requiring some more modern software than I can run. I
attempted to install
Fedora 8, but that failed on the AMD processors. So I ordered a set of

gstreamer error
hi all,
I recently started playing with swfdec and it looks pretty awesome so
far. So, many thanks for your efforts guys!
But when running swfplay on a swf-file containing videos, e.g.
swfdec-flash-and-gnome.swf, the video doesn't play and I get some errors
regarding GStreamer:

video source
In order to experiment with the theora encoder, I bought a mini-DV camcorder a
couple of weeks ago; a Panasonic PV-GS9 for $250. I wanted a mini-DV because
it is claimed that capturing video from the camcorder to a computer over a
firewire cable results in an exact copy of the recorded video.
That was not my experience. The video I captured to my computer over the
firewire cable, using both

3.2.3p1 on OpenServer
Hi All,
I compiled the 3.2.3p1 source on SCO OpenServer 5.0.6. When a client connects to it now, they get stair-stepping everywhere. Issuing an stty sane resolves the issue for that login.
For bug 245 in 3.2.2p1, the call to setsid() is sshd.c was bypassed due to problems it was causing with Solaris. However, by allowing this method to be called, the stair-stepping goes
away.
Thanks,
Greg

integration of old mails into new dovecot Maildir
I just installed dovecot 2.2.9 on to a new server and want to transfer all
the old mails into the email accounts I imported from the previous server
into MySQL database. I am not able to view the subfolders and or old mails
that I copied into their respective maildir folders. I was very much
appreciate if anyone could let me know how to import old mails into the new
server. All I see, is the new

Consistent but intermittent DHCP problems after pxelinux loads kernel.
Question, testing the waters to see if anyone has input on this. My
summary belief is that I'm seeing a problem with the PXE bios code
causing this issue. I'm trying to find out what else I can do to
confirm that, and rule out pxelinux/. I'd like to get a confirmation
that the use of pxelinux isn't a factor, as I'm not using 'keeppxe'.
I'm rolling out a

Adtran 750 DID question.
Hello All,
I've mostly solved my DID problem from a few days ago. Apparenly the lines weren't configured properly. Now heres the next question. 12 E&M wink lines from telco. I have them all plugging into an Adtran 750 with FXS cards. The Adtran ports are configured DPO. How do I signal this from Zaptel. I have them setup E&M in zaptel.conf and EM_W in zapata.conf. They

Dequantizing
I have some data measured with a coarsely-quantized clock. Let's say
the real data are
q<- sort(rexp(100,.5))
The quantized form is floor(q), so a simple quantile plot of one
against the other can be calculated using:
plot(q,type="l"); points(floor(q),col="red")
which of course shows the characteristic stair-step. I would like to
smooth the quantized

T3 Mux and Asterisk Question
I have a T3 coming from my carrier. From there I want to use an Adtran
mx2800 T1 Mux to break the T3 into 28 T1/PRI which feed into seven quad
T1/PRI equipped servers.
Everything seems very straight forward with the exception of the D
channels for the T1/PRI.
I am not very familiar with large circuits such as T3s. I know that I
can use one D channel per set of quad port on each server. So if
