Install challenges
As mentioned in my previous post I just completed a rebuild on my new dns/mail server. And it was almost a disaster. When loading from CDs I would get a dialog that an rpm could not be found, perhaps bad media. I would pop out the CD, click OK and things continued. Until finally it would not. I had two copies of the CDs and neither worked! So I happened to have the CDs on my web server

Cannot build rpm with mysql support from dovecot.spec
I've been playing for hours with the dovecot.spec file to build --with-mysql. The resulting RPM builds fine but when dovecot runs it does not recognize the passdb mysql statement. I also noted that the spec file has a version of 1.0-stable and rpmbuild complains about an invalid '-' in the version. Being a newbie in rpmbuild, can someone assist me in building for CentOS 4 on i386?

yam help
I am trying to use yam to create a repo based on the 4.4 CDs. I have copied the contents of the CDs to /var/dist/CentOS-4.4-i386. No matter what I try, yam always creates an emtpy repo. This is my current yam.conf file: [main] srcdir = /var/yam wwwdir = /var/www/yam arch = i386 [centos] name = CentOS $release ($arch) release = 4 arch = i386 metadata =

Compaq Alpha ES45 system with 4 CPUs: OK with CentOS ?
Hi, >From a friend I got a Compaq Alpha ES45 system with 4 CPUs. Also he gave me the CentOS-Alpha installation CDs. The CDs are probably recent, but I'm not sure; they have following kernels in the RPMS directory: kernel-2.6.9-34.EC.alpha.rpm kernel-smp-2.6.9-34.EC.alpha.rpm kernel-utils-2.4-13.1.80.alpha.rpm (Is this then an up-to-date installation CD set?). My main question is:

Installing a package group after the initial install
I recently installed a system using the CentOS 4.3 CDs which is now up and running. Everything is running fine, but I forgot to install one of the "package groups" that Anaconda offers as an option. Is there a way to install this group on a running system using the data on the CDs (i.e., not via a repository)? If not, is there a way to get the list of RPMs that belong to a

problems copying distro files
At this point in my lab, the only solid servers I have are Win2000. So I xcopy the distro CDs into a directory that I make available for install via ftp. Well I have had problems copying files from this distro. I had to use the /c option in xcopy to get past the problem files.. A few examples are: The following files in the image directory of disk 1 has 'File creation error - The

Multichannel vorbis.
Hi. I have two CDs that the artists inteded for simultaneous listening. They even provide instructions on how to start two CD players with the minimal time shift. (for those interested - the CDs are Neurosis/Times Of Grace and Tribes Of Neurot/Grace) I've heard that Vorbis can encode multiple streams. I've already encoded both albums into regular 2-channel .ogg files. The questions

Unsupported Kernel for X86_64 and i386
All, There have been many requests for added kernel features that the upstream provider left out of the standard kernel. (ReiserFS, Video4Linux, Firewire support, XFS, NTFS, JFS, etc.). We want the main release CDs to contain a standard kernel for compatibility and stability reasons. CentOS is created as a clone, and it needs to be as close as possible to the upstream distro. That being said,

CDs for R?
Hi Folks, I'm sure I'm speaking for more than a few (though possibly a minority) here. There's something of a hidden assumption that R users can readily download whatever they need from CRAN. Some of us are on narrow bandwidth dialup connections, so downloading large quantities of stuff is out of the question (e.g. at approx. 5min/MB, it would take over 2 days to download a single
