VNC vs GNOME desktop
I'm trying to use VNC to connect my home Centos box (up to date centos 5) to my Centos 4 (also up to date) at work. I have no problem connecting. The problem occurs after logging in, for every applet in the bottom Gnome panel I get an error box from which I can choose to remove the applet from the panel, or just go on. I choose to not delete but to just go on. After I get a half dozen or so of

keybindings patch, gnome-keybinding-bridge and vignettes plugins
Hi folks, For ubuntu specs and for a better desktop integration of compiz, I made some patchs and plugins. Focus prevention is now in main stream, and really better can i made :) First the workspace and terminal keybinding patch. Since my last email I updated the patch. http://gandalfn.club.fr/ubuntu/compiz-patch/91-workspaces-terminal-keybindings.patch It adds the support for vertical

Gnome Notification Applet
I tried out Scientific Linux 6 Live to see (basically) what I can expect with CentOS 6 and was pleased to find that everything looks pretty familiar and is easily customizable to make it look and feel like 5.6 -- except for one thing that I also noticed in Ubuntu's newest beta (my Dad uses Linux Mint). For whatever reason, Gnome has decided to put the Volume Control and Network Manager in the

Gnome weather applet stranded
The Gnome weather report applet has ceased working on CentOS5/6. http://weather.noaa.gov/ says "This service is no longer available". Are there any good alternatives? I liked the applet as it allowed the use of a custom radar map. As I just discovered, the weather functionality of the CentOS6 Gnome clock applet was using the same service.

General CentOS 5.1 (or Gnome) instability?
I've been a big fan of CentOS for a while, and didn't have many issues with CentOS 4.X over the past few years. However, since moving to CentOS 5.1 a few weeks ago, I have received more problem reports from my users than in the last year and a half on CentOS 4.X. I've previously reported the problem with gnome-terminal crashing (and since there is a single gnome-terminal

gigantic memory leak in Clock Applet...
I've discovered recently that something on my Centos 5.8 box (up to date) is hogging a ton of RAM. so a little while ago I sat and watched top for a while. it showed (sorry, I didn't take screen shots or write this down, so the numbers are a bit rough) that out of 8 gigs of swap, around 2 1/2 was in use, and all the RAM (except for the little the kernel keeps for itself) was in use

nm-applet, wirless, and CentOS 6
I have a strange problem and I know I am doing things way outside of the box. First of all I don't like Gnome or really any of the mess-windows flavored desktop systems and no, I don't like the MacOSX flavored desktop systems (like Ubuntu's Unity) either. The 'desktop' system (if you could have called it that) that I learned on was DEC's 'DecWindows' system on

Drag-and-drop encode/decode applets for Mac OS
Folks, I?m new here, and not really a developer, but I?ve been wanting to work on my Applescript skills. I figured the best way to do that would be to create utilities that other people might find useful (or useless). So I contacted Timothy Terriberry last week to ask if it would be appropriate to throw my crap out in front of you all, and he told me to go ahead. In that spirit, I?ve created a

rhn-applet-gui
After doing the updates, my yum and my up2date both tell me the system is totally updated, and it is ... however, my rhn-applet says there are 781 updates ... and it lists as updates packages with exactly the same version ... and even some packages with older versions. Any Ideas? The rhn-applet is: rhn-applet-2.1.4-3.centos.1 Thanks, Johnny Hughes -------------- next part -------------- An

SSHMenu (Gnome Applet) for CentOS 6
Hello, I know that there exists a package for Gnome SSHMenuApplet for CentOS 5 (e.g. see http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/epel/testing/5/ppc/gnome-applet-sshmenu-3.15-5.el5.noarch.html). The package sshmenu (which I found here: http://dl.marmotte.net/rpms/redhat/el6/x86_64/sshmenu-3.18-7.el6/sshmenu-3.18-7.el6.noarch.rpm) states: ======================================== Summary :

Sensors-applet-0.2.2
List, I grabbed the sensors-applet file, and assumed there would be some note about how to execute it or add it to the panel. Nada.. in the README, there is an indication of ./configure --prefix=/usr and that's it. From what I read on a web page about it, and the screenshots, there should be something to configure the values. Heck, I can't even find the file now that its

Starting a java applet from the desktop
CentOS-5.4 i86_64 I have a calculator applet on my desktop (superbcalc.jar). When I double click on it I get no response. If I right click and select open with java I get no response. If I open a terminal window and cd to Desktop and type java -jar superbcalc.jar then the applet opens. Does anyone have any idea why I am seeing this behaviour? There are no messages in the syslog file relating

Gnome weather applet stranded
Nux! writes: > Hm, this is bad. I was relying on this feature heavily. > Let's see if there is a fix. I don't imagine RH will care about this on EL6, but maybe MATE guys could help. The code for the respective applets is quite different. Mate uses weather.com, but I bet the API is different and a fix requires actual coding.

R search applet initialization
R 1.5.1 is due to come out ... and I've just noticed that the R help.start page search applet doesn't work on my Mandrake 8.2 system even though I've upgraded mozilla to version 1.0 and I have a perfectly working java (all right, I'm using 1.4.0 now, but with mozilla 0.98 and java 1.3.1 it still didn't work). I had thought the problem due to a too-old mozilla version, but it
