Voiceglo SIP configuration
The call quality is really pretty good. I think better than Vonage over
an FXO bridge. If you are looking for a home provider with direct SIP
support and local phone numbers this is a good choice. If anyone has
questions or comments about my configuration please pass them along. I
have noticed that if you don't put fromuser=phone# then the extension
caller id passes through. Also the

voiceglo.com and dtmf
Hello all,
I've been trying to get a simple PBX up and running with
asterisk. I decided to sign up with Voiceglo so I could have a PSTN
gateway. The problem is that I can't seem to get Asterisk to handle
dtmf decoding reliably. I tried inband and the rfc decoding. inband
tried to work and the rfc mode didn't do anything. By try to work I
mean that it rarely properly

Usernames with dots
Now that I have winbind working, life is good. However, I've hit upon a
real kick in the pants.
As you can see from my email address, we have a convention here of
usernames being firstname.lastname. So, when I go to change the owner
ship of a file:
$ chown chris.palmer myfile
Linux thinks I mean user chris, group palmer, and says "invalid group"
(there is no palmer group,

BroadVoice usage?
Hi all,
I've been trying to use BroadVoice as a SIP service provider. They don't
officially
support * but are helpful when it comes to answering questions for setup
parameters. They claim they have no firewalls or access lists that need to be
set up so I can get access to their servers.
However, something's still not quite right when I use the parameters.
It looks like our Asterisk

Sprint Nextel sueing over VoIP patents
Sprint Nextel is sueing vonage, voiceglo and theglobe.com for infringing
on VoIP patents. Sprint Nextel claims to have about 100 patents on VoIP
technologies. Does anyone know which ones this article is talking
about, and if so does asterisk have any of those features?
The reason I am asking is that the article is vague, Vonage uses a
fairly standard codec set, I dont know about the others.

Default domain for winbindd?
Hello once again,
I've got winbind doing authentication not just for the samba service but also sshd and login. It's great. However, I have to give a fully-qualified username (e.g. "GENEEDINC+chris.palmer") as the username when logging in via these methods. I wondered, Is there any way to get winbindd to insert the domain and the separator for the user, when none is provided?

New to R. Question about very large files
.. I am new to R but experienced in SAS. SAS has the capability to let me
develop a model from a sample and use the results to score the records of
another file which won't fit in memory. Is this straightforward in R or
does it require coding to do the scoring in segments? Can someone point me
to sample code that I can copy or modify to do this quickly?

Hello all,
We (at ibiblio.org) are evaluating several projects and products for
getting good analytics from icecast. Specifically, we have explored
cacti and awstats. I am writing because I would like users of this
list to send me their experiences with analytics and monitoring
packages and products. I would like details such as time for initial
deployment, time and steps to add an addiitonal

Authenticating against a Windows 2000 DC?
I apologize in advance if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find the FAQ document for this list. I also could not find anything relevant in other Samba documentation sources like http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba.html.
There seems to be plenty of information about using Samba *as* a DC, but I want to know if I can use Samba *with* a Windows 2000 DC. We have two DCs running Windows 2000, a W2K

tinc to secure a wireless network
Hi all and greetings from Australia,
I am looking at a suitable VPN to secure a wireless notebook hanging off
a private, wired network.
Is tinc suitable for this?
specifics:
"notebook" 192.168.205.63
"AProuter" (access point/computer that the notebook will connect to):
192.168.205.31
What numbers should I give to the various nodes?
At this stage, only one notebook VPN:ed

PDC for Multiple Domains from a Single Samba Box
I've struggled with this for a couple of weeks, and have looked at countless
posts and at the Samba documentation collection with no real solution.
I'm setting up a lab that needs to have multiple domains (for machine / user
segregation politics) for around 40 windows XP professional machines. I have
a single Linux server running Suse 9.2. I would like for this server to be
able to

Executing custom effect for n seconds
Glad to see this list get going!
I have a custom effect ''Pulse'' that basically does an opacity fade in/
out.
I want to execute this effect with a custom duration.
I''m looking for a consistent approach that is inline with
script.alicio.us and Prototype.
Is there a way to do something like this (pseudo code):
Effect2.Pulse = function(element) {

question on lmer function
suppose something like probability(passing test) is driven by
1. fixed effects -- sex
2. district effects - district funding
3. school effects - neighborhood income, racial composition, % two parent
families, ...
4. class effects - teacher quality measurement,
5. individual random effects - IQ.
how would such a model be setup in lmer? I can't find much discussion on

acts_as_tree elegant tree printing
Hi,
I''m working with acts_as_tree to print an unordered list of items:
Root

---- Child
I''ve got this working, however I''d like to know if there is a more
elegant fashion that I''m unaware of:
#Takes a parent category and recursivley returns all children
def find_all_subcategories(category)
if category.children.size > 0
