Questions regarding new echo cancellation features...
I notice the zaptel Makefile option
the mark2 option & KFLAGS+=-DAGGRESSIVE_SUPPRESSOR
is now gone. Does simply adding these options still compile in a certain
echo can - or is there an other method of activating a particular can. I
have not had to update my machine that is connected to pstn for a while & I
don't want to jump into echotraining without a way to quickly enable what

modprobe -r ztd-eth locks up machine...
Hi,
I have just begun working with TDMoE running between 2 fiber nics the
dynamic span works great. In my main asterisk box's startup file I just
'modprobe tor2', then start asterisk. The zaptel, ztdynamic & ztd-eth
modules all load by themselves when tor2 is loaded. If I stop asterisk then
'modprobe -r tor2' the tor2 module is removed but the other three remain.

Music on Hold - can it be done without mpg123?
I have been having periodic trouble with mpg123. I have tried .59r & .59s
and perhaps others a while back and still get the 'broken pipe' and zombie
mpg123s (although I think I saw something about a fix in the changelog) once
and a while. Is it currently possible to configure moh to run directly on
the wav files? Now-a-days hard drives are so big, why use compression at all

sementation fault with mpg123
I'm still getting a sementation fault with mpg123. I have tried different
parameters creating mp3s the last from cd audio ...
lame -m s --resample 8000 -q 0 -a --cbr -b 32
and several versions of mpg123. I have always created 8000 hz outputs. I've
got other * boxes that don't use moh that have been up for months. This one
crashes every couple of days - the verbose output leading to a

AT&T T1 Cable Needed!
Hi,
I just got a T1 interface for a AT&T (became Lucent) System75 (uses same
cards as Definity). I would take a crack at making a cable but can't
determine the pinout for a cable and it is not apparent from the board.
Asking you guys makes sense as one of you may have one of these systems. The
cable has a amphenol male D50 connector on one end and probably a rj45 on
the other. I also

FAX over IAX
Hi,
We are looking at consolidating our lines with PRI. This will allow the
elimination of many fax lines. Some of them will be replaced with this type
of config ...
PRI * IAX * Channel-Bank FAX
We will have daggressor suppressor enabled. Is anyone doing this and should
I expect smooth operation?

T1 vs PRI
Hi,
I'm buying an interface for my Toshiba DKT424 to connect to *. Initially it
is a trial to route internal calls over our wan. Think of it as a tie trunk
between 2 pbxs. I expect to get PRI from the telco our layout will be like
this:
telco_T1_PRI to * to various PBX or TDM or IAX to * to other pbxs
My question is, is there benefits to connecting with PRI over a standard T1
within my

Youch! Painfully loud beep...
I just called 6610 from Zap/1
exten => 6610,1,Dial,Zap/1&Zap/2
(Don't try this with the handset pressed up against your ear) ...is this the
call waiting indicator? Is it a file, can it be turned down - and does it
get used anywhere else?
These are both fxs ports. In zapata.conf changinging to callwaiting=no stops
this. The text implies that this affects fxo ports.

4 line phone w cid recommendation?
Hi,
I'm looking for 4 line phones that will see some heavy usage (they need to
be tough) for office secretary/receptionists. Any recommendations?
One additional consideration (not particularly for my current needs) is
regarding the page/intercom feature that can be mapped to one of the analog
ports - does anyone know of a 4 line phone that will do this?
Thanks,
John

Periodic crash - avoid this syntax...
I have a machine that crashes every so often. I believe the following macro
is responsible (gotoif,$[${ARG3}] in particular). The macro works as
expected: if ARG3 is defined - hop over assignment. But my hunch is that it
gradually chews up memory.
; This macro is puts voicemail in an alternate mailbox (if ARG3 defined -
otherwise Mailbox matches extension).

Question for someone running hylafax off *.
Hi,
I am setting up a hylafax server. From what I've read so far, hylafax
supports CID numbers and names but currently does not support DID. I assume
I can do something like this...
[40faxDIDs]
exten => _87[5-8]X,1,SetVar(CALLERIDNAME=${EXTEN})
exten => _87[5-8]X,2,Dial(Zap/g${hylafaxMODEMGROUP})
...and use the CIDName variable in hylafax to route the faxes to the

VoiceMailMain skipping extension and password prompting
I would like to access VoiceMailMain2 skipping extension and password
prompting if calling from a resource that has a mailbox defined. What
variables can I use to retrieve the calling channel & calling extension (if
it exists)?
Here is what I'm trying to accomplish (of course ${CallingResourse.MailBox}
is not a real way to retrieve this info)...

T1-PRI deployment questions...
I am ordering T1-PRI service from local service provider and have a few
questions.
Is there framing and coding considerations (or is it all one standard), if
so what is best?
How are calls routed based on DIDs - are these just dtmf tones passed after
the call is picked up and treated as normal exten=> definitions?

Asterisk and Cisco Callmanager
Hi Guys
I have just come from a customer that is looking to install 13 Cisco
CallManagers into all their branches, (i tried to convince them to go
*). They are looking for a voicemail solution. Now as Kinesis and Unity
are way too expensive (apparently cisco is launching a cheap voicemail
system too) I was thinking of installing * as the voicemail solution.
Lots of goggling i have found

How to pickup incoming calls immediately?
Hi,
I set up a t1 from my sys75 to asterisk. After much experimentation I got it
to work as e&m wink start. If dialing the trunk access code from the sys75
(a 5 - this is stripped on the s75), asterisk picks up and provides dial
tone immediately. Here is the problem, after about 3 seconds that line
switches into s,1 of the default context.
If I dial (5)1234 very fast - before the switch to

TDMoE implementation suggestions
I have a T400P in my main building M and am going to put asterisk boxes in
two buildings A & B. I already have our wan on fiber running between the
buildings (including some extra strands) and the distance is beyond straight
Ti distance so I would need csu... to use copper. It occurred to me that I
could use TDMoE - and it may be less costly. My assumption is that the best

Best encoding values for moh?
What mp3 formats are being used for good quality sound and reliable playback

Bridged trunks stuck off hook.
Hi,
I'm getting a situation where 2 of my trunks (loopstart pots) are
occationally bridged together (3624 Newbridge channel bank - asterisk
signalling=fxs_ks for trunks) and are staying off hook until I do a 'soft
hangup' on one of them. When I listen on a butt set each of the lines are
silent (or at least by the time I find them). I am guessing one of the end
users isn't properly

Setting a minimum 'on-hook' interval?
A couple of weeks ago I posted a message entitled 'Bridged trunks stuck off
hook' about a situation where 2 of my trunks (loopstart pots - but Centrex)
are occasionally bridged together. It has occurred to me that what may be
happening is that a line hung up by Asterisk might quickly be reused and if
the time interval is right, the telco will interpret this as a hook-flash.
Is there a way

IAX with dynamic echo cancellation - what do you think?
I've been curious how IAX has been working for users running without a
jitterbuffer and no echo cancellation. In my particular installation, IAX2
traffic remains within a pretty high bandwith WAN ( - but busy as it is
linking buildings in a school district). It seems that at most times, things
could run quite nicely in this mode.
The ability to dynamically disable echo cancellation when end
