Hold the phone!
Just a little pun there! I've been mostly lurking for a couple of weeks and realize how little I know and understand about this PBX and phone stuff. I did a little looking about and came across a glossary but they terms are -- for me -- kind of out of context. I'm wondering if there is (much as I hate the term "Dummy") a "PBX for Dummy's" or similar. I've

W2k/w98 don't see printers on samba-3.0.0beta2/3 in "Add Printer" dialogue
Hello, I've tried both samba-3.0.0beta2 and beta3 but both give me the same problem. When on a windows dekstop and trying to add a printer with samba as the printserver , the printers exported by the samba server are not seen by the windows "add printer dialogue" e.g.: relevant part of smb.conf: ----------------------------------- load printers = yes printing = cups

1.6.2.6: can't upgrade from 1.6.1.18
I'm running 1.6.1.18 on an older ubuntu machine. I upgraded to dahi-linux-2.3.0. That went fine, and it works. But I decided to use the opportunity to upgrade to 1.6.2.6. That didn't work. configure, make menuselect, make, make install all went fine, or at least seemed to. But it hangs starting up here: [Apr 13 20:15:28] VERBOSE[1612] codec_speex.c: -- CODEC SPEEX: Setting

win2k usrmgr.exe returns "remote procedure call failed"
WHAT I HAVE: I've inherited a production debian system. uname reveals kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4. I am now running samba 3.0.14a with a completely "stock from source" install (as part of my troubleshooting activities). The machine acts as a PDC for win2k clients. It uses smbpasswd for the password back end. There are approx 20 users. It also serves dhcp, ntp, mysql and apache. WHAT I

Asterisk linphone call dropping by itself
hi all, please help... I am calling in the simplest way among two linphone clients connected to one asterisk server... the call ends on one side without any sign of problem, while on the other side it stays connected. I checked the SIP dialogue and at some point the server sends a BYE message to one party I have no timeout set, though the duration of a call is always around 20s. the two

dialup Win95 -> samba
Thanks to the four people who replied to my original posting (appended below, subject "Win95 problem"). I've made progress but have now hit a new problem. The solution to the original problem (How do you make a "standalone" client "log on to the network"?) was simply to tick the "Server Type/Log on to network" checkbox in the dialup properties.

OT: Download Archived Messages Locally?
My apologies for asking this OT question on the list, but I'm hoping someone can help me. I have been lurking and monitoring this list for a long time, but getting messages in digest mode. Now, I am getting ready to roll out a live installation, and I'd like to have all of the list messages on my local computer so that I can view them in my preferred client (Thunderbird) as threads.

Viewing Properties of file marks it Read-Only?
I've got CIFS/9000 (rebadged SAMBA 2.2.3a) running under HP-UX 11.11 using the below configuration. If I use Windows Explorer to right-click on any file (in the SAMBA Share) and view its Properties, the Unix privileges get changed from "-rwxrwxr-x" to "-rwxr--r--" essentially making it Read-Only!! Even if I don't change anything and click CANCEL on the dialogue box?

Speex/ILBC buggy with * 1.0 and X-Lite/Pro?
I'm playing with codecs at the moment and have found some notices errors when x-lite/pro connects to asterisk with Speex or ILBC. Initially I was getting garbled sound, but after changing magic number for both codecs to 97 (as per http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk%20phone%20xten%20xlite and http://bugs.digium.com/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0000918) I was able to get normal voice. SPEEX installation problems
Hi all... I have a slight problem with getting speex running I Downloaded Speex sources (v. 1.0.4 stable version) and did make; make install sucessfully Then I re-maked the asterisk sources and clearly saw a speex.so module being built (so the makefile for sure detects that there is a speex lib installed now) After that when I run asterisk: [codec_speex.so] Feb 22 09:32:59 WARNING[29189]:

Experimental FreeBSD ports / packages for test61
Hello, If anyone would like it I have provided a Dovecot 1.0 test61 port and package for FreeBSD 5.3 here. I made them for my own experimentation but thought they might be interesting to others I suppose. http://www.helenmarks.co.uk/~dom/dovecot/ These deviate from the stock test61 because I've updated and added a patch I wrote a long time ago for ioloop kqueue/kevent support in
