Power Over Ethernet for *any* ethernet switch (or hub); product idea
Based on several threads I've read on this list, I assume that it would be
handy to supply POE (power over ethernet) in an environment without having
to purchase POE switches (assumed expensive) and abandon one's existing
(familiar/custom/not-yet-expensed/etc.) switches/hubs.
Assume I have a non-POE switch with 24 RJ-45 (ethernet) ports. I design a
1U box that can be mounted just

Power Over Ethernet for *any* ethernet switch(or hub); product idea
PoE, or 802.3af, uses a device detection routine to determine if the
connected device needs power.
The process, in greatly simplified terms, is as follows:
1. Detect link state
2. Send a pulse of a known frequency and intensity over the
TX/RX pairs
3. Listen for reflection.
3a. No reflection- provide power
3b. Reflection- no power
Devices that comply with 802.3af have filters designed

Polycom power over ethernet (PoE) cables for 500/501, 600/601 and 650 sets
Hi, folks:
I just took delivery of new PoE cables (PN 2200-11077-002) for our
Polycom phones here in the office.
I have the following to report, for the erudition of existing Polycom
users and those considering purchasing Polycom sets from the set of
models noted in the subject:
1. The cables do indeed work (hooray).
2. The cable has a module on it about a third of the way from a female
end.

Grandstream Budgettone 100 & 102
Checking the earlier mails, it stated that the phones were $75 (100) & $85
(102) ref :-
http://lists.digium.com/pipermail/asterisk-users/2003-June/013483.html
Well, I just called Ovislink/dgtimes and was quoted $90 & $100 and the person
said there was no price change.
Anyone on this list actually bought them at the $75 & $85 rate ???

Asterisk and Fedora Core 3
Hi guys
I'm new to this list and I imagine this question has been asked before,
so feel free to point me to the correct references.
My question is, how do you install asterisk on Fedora Core 3, with all
rpm updates, seeing as there is no kernel-source rpm anymore?
Thanks for any advice.

How to generate 'minor' ticks in lattice (qqmath)
Dear group,
I tried to generate labels for every second tick in lattice (qqmath).
Version: 0.14-16
Date: 2006/12/01
R version 2.4.1 (2006-12-18)
An example:
library(lattice)
numy=100
y=runif(numy,min=0,max=1)
sig=0.05
numsig=length(which(y<sig))
tck.no=11 # number of ticks
tcks=1:tck.no
labl=as.character(0.1*tcks-0.1) # label for all ticks
labl[seq(2,tck.no-1,2)]="" # delete

Noise on FXS ports (Sangoma)
Hi:
I have a Sangoma A200 card installed in a server with two FXO modules
and one FXS module.
Analog sets connected to the FXS module have a "squeaky static" -- it's
like static mixed with the sound of someone vigorously cleaning a window
a few doors down.
In other words, it's not a classic static noise, but it is noise, and
it's distracting. Remote callers can hear this

Asterisk and Welltech USB SIP phone K1000A
Hi all
I'm fairly new to Asterisk, so be nice :-)
I was wondering if anyone has been able to get the Welltech K1000A USB
phone working on Linux. I see audio and HID drivers loaded when it is
plugged in to my Fedora Core 1 laptop, but that's about all that
happens. I've searched all the usual places (FAQ, Google, etc) but not
found anything helpful.
Asterisk is working fine with

[PoE] Avaya 1152a1x
Sorry for posting slightly off topic,
I use an Avaya 1152a1x midspan device to deliver power some Snom phones.
The Power distrubution unit seems to be identical to PowerDsine
PD-6024G/AC/M.
I can get some basic information via SNTP (networking setup, uptime) but
no port monitoring and no monitoring of power output using snmpwalk on
the device.
Does anyone has experience wit such an device?

[stuart.leask@nottingham.ac.uk: R in your pocket on a Sharp Zaurus]
Ah, but the interesting thing is that they are coming out with a 'clam'
version like the 5MX. Details are limited at the moment, but that could
mean the combination of 5MX usability with a supported linux distro. I
am drooling in anticipation. Sounds like a "I've finally finished my
PhD and deserve a treat" situation to me :)

Problems with asterisk
Hello.
I did an update a couple of days ago. Between Wednesday & Friday.
I have just started getting problems. The first time since I installed and
played with asterisk in August. I don't know why it is indicating three way
call.
When I stopped and restarted asterisk, the problem went away.

POE hub
I need to connect up to sixteen phones per building, I can use a cheap hub,
but POE would be useful. Is there a cheap POE hub available? Everything I
have seen has been expensive.
