Voice Modem + Soundcard Driver
The problem with using Voice Modems is that they fall into two categories:
1) Hardware Modems which only have half-duplex transmission of voice
2) Soft/Win/Lin modems which are proprietry and don't have asterisk drivers
Please shoot down this recipe before I waste any time trying to acheive it:

modem to modem calls through asterisk
Modem connect speeds on calls through * seem to be lower than calls
made through the telephone company lines or our old Rolm PBX. All data
calls have 2 wire analog modems on both ends.
For my set up I have channels of a Zhone channel bank tied to 2 modems.
The Zhone channel bank interfaces my * server with a T400P card.

USB modem on centos
I am playing with a USR (us robotics) USB modem model 5637.
in the past I used internal modems and had no issues.
One this unit I plugged it in, dmesg says its recogized.
I did "ln -s /dev/ttyACM0 /dev/ttyS4" this works.
I then did "cu -l /dev/ttyS4" type "AT" and I get OK... looking good.
When I "ATDT my number" I get a connection at 1200 baud (which I

Virtual or Hardware SIP Modem
Hi,
I have just gotten my first Asterisk box up and running, and it is running
great. I am working on this project with the plans of possibly implementing
it in a business environment. The problem I am coming up against is that the
business I am planning on implementing this setup in is using some legacy
software which requires a modem to communicate with energy management
systems. My question is

How can i test a modem with Asterisk?
Hello all,
I'm a newbee and i'd like to test some analog modems i have before
purchasing any new hardware. I'm using:
- Pentium 500 MHz
- Several 56K and 33.6K analog modems (internal and external).
- ISDN BRI 1 port card.
- A LAN i've successfully tested some SIP sofphones.
- An ordinary telephon line (and an ordinary phone :) ).

Modem as PSTN interface?
Hi, all
Can a normal PCI modem be used to provide PSTN interface? I have seen modems that have answering machine capabilities, so there should not be a problem sending voice through them.
Certainly, modem will be cheaper option then dedicated cards. Am I missing something?

Modem bridging on Asterisk (no VoIP involved)
Hi everybody.
I know maybe this question has been posted some time ago, but
I need your updated opinion on the subject.
I'm replacing our old pbx with asterisk.
I have two TE207 dual pri (e1) cards on a clustered system
(one on each node).
I absolutely need to connect 4/5 analog extensions with
modems, they're being used for remote assistance on very
old systems which cannot be upgraded

GSM modems
Hi all,
I am interested in interfacing a GSM modem to *. I've seen a few
comments about doing this, but I'm not clear whether people have
actually made it work. I've used GSM modems for various data jobs,
mostly high volume SMS (no, not nasty marketing stuff - high volume
solicited SMS :-) ) . These only have analogue ports for voice. Does
anyone know of units with digital voice

Best way to connect analog modem
Hello Asterisk fans,
I try to connect an analog modem to Asterisk. The modems are connected
e.g. to alarm systems or a cash terminals (POS). As PSTN-Interface I'm
using a Wildcard TE110P (E1).
Is it possible to connect the modems to an ATA?
Which ATA I should use for that scenarios?
Cheers

POS modems
Hi,
If anyone is interested in the low speed modems needed for POS
applications (V.22, V.22bis, V.22bisFC and V.29FC) please contact me. I
had some spare time while travelling, and finally got the V.22bis code I
started a long time ago into a start where its basically functional. I'm
now looking for input about exactly what application software expects
from these modems, so I can plan

Which modem is known to work with asterisk?
Hi!
I want to connect my asterisk system to the PSTN. Now I'm thinking about
using an analog modem as FXO device.
Which modems do run? How is the voice quality? (I looked into the wiki,
but on
<http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk%20hardware> no
regular modems were mentioned.
Or should I use a special FXO-card? I don't want to spend 99$ for such a
thing but

USB Modem with asterisk
I can use a USB modem with asterisk to connect to the
PSTN network right? It'll serve the same functionality
as an FXO card? Also, any idea if I can get these
modems with mutiple ports (12 or 24)?
Thanks,
Doug

Running USB DSL Modem
Is it possible to use Wine to run USB DSL modems with Win9x only drivers? I
had a choice of a free PCI or USB modem and heard I had a better shot with
the USB. There are no Linux drivers, at least for now.

[Zaptel] Why no driver for PCI voice modems?
Hello
Considering how cheap PCI modems are compared to even the cheapest
PCI hardware from Digium, OpenVox, Sangoma, etc.... I was wondering
why Zaptel can't be used with those to connect an Asterisk server to
a POTS line for low-level use? It just seems overkill for SOHO users
who only get a few calls a day.
Is it because those modems are usually Windows-specific, and it would
be too

FXS with v.90 modem support?
I have a couple of devices that need an analog modem to communicate
outside of our Asterisk system. Most FXS gateways don't seem to
support this... I have a stack of Sipura 2002's that are, AFAIK,
worthless for this purpose.
I've heard that Digium's IAXy FXS will work with modems, but I can't
find any reference to that in their documentation. There is also the

Configuring modem pools in Asterisk [WAS: Connecting a Rolm CBX to Asterisk via T1?]
Okay, T1 card issue sorted out. New Lesson: Stay Away from TigerJet chips.
Next up, modem pool -- I wanted to know if the below config looked anywhere near half-sane for defining in asterisk what is essentially a small pool of four waiting modems that will handle faxes if another modem is busy:
exten => _X.,1,Dial(IAX2/iaxmodem0/${EXTEN})
exten => _X.,2,Busy
exten => _X.,3,Hangup
