is there a utility to tell if the monitor is on or off in CentOS?
Is am trying to find a utility to tell me if the monitor is physically
on or off?
DPMS is turn off so the monitor will not be automatically turning off -
I just need
to know if someone has turned off the monitor in an automated way?
I thought the VESA standard would have something like that but I have
not found
it.
Does anyone know a way to do this?
Thanks.

Could you confirm exactly how to add the drm.debug=0x1e option. Is it
another parameter on the kernel command line? Where does the output data
go? Is there a way to get it into a file?
Thanks

Way to tell if monitor is on or off???
I am looking for a way to tell if the monitor is on or off?
xset q - seems to only work if DPMS turns off the monitor.
If I or someone actually turns off the monitor xset q still shows on.
If I do xset dpms force off ; sleep 5; xset q the monitor shows off.
So is there a way to tell if the monitor is actually on or off?
Thanks,
Jerry

MATE power save and dpms
So, I am using MATE from EPEL as my desktop on one of my laptops.
The screen saver was working, however the monitors (if connected via a
docking station) were not going to sleep even if selected via the GUI
mate power manager.
I then discovered that dpms has to be initialized via the command line
before it becomes available, regardless of the GUI mate power manager
setting.

help with signal from monitor
I have an Alienware laptop that has Nvidia GTX 880M hardware driven by
this driver. I recently purchased an ASUS_VN289H monitor. When my system
gives a blanking command, the monitor returns some sort of lost signal
message which causes the monitor to unblank and the time out I requested
is cancelled. This is probably more of an HDMI question than specific to
this hardware, but I was wondering

Missing libs on install
I've run across a couple of things I'm not quite sure why, but just
discovered the libtermcap.* was not installed from the CD's. I would
have thought the termcap libs would be part of the base install, and in
fact, when I retrieved them with yum, it does show "base" or "core". Is
this just some errant behavior one time or is something broken in the
install?

Monitor power save question
I decided to try the x86_64 version of CentOS 5 on my new desktop since
it has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. The one really perplexing oddity is that
the monitor no longer goes to power save mode (standby) if the system is
idle long enough (e.g., overnight).
The "power management" option is set to put the display to sleep after
thirty minutes. The display gets blanked but it never goes to

Type1 Fonts
I've narrowed the my Cups printing problem down to Wine not loading my
Type 1 fonts.
I have several Type 1 fonts installed in 3 places, all of which are in
my fontpath ("xset q" lists them). I can use the Type 1 fonts in X and
with KDE-2.2.1 even as AntiAliased, however, when I try to print from an
app under wine I get a memory error and a message at the command line
