Debian Packages and Mirrors
FYI and to whom it may concern, I have made Debian
packages of Asterisk et. al. You still need to build
a new kernel and the zaptel modules from source, but
Asterisk and libpri are manageable with dpkg.
The debs as well as mirrors of the source distribution
are here:

I would also like to mirror the CVS repository as

Compiling while * is running
I just fetched today's cvs (1/30/04 11:10:31). Compiles/installs on my
test machine (ASUS A7V, 900 MHZ). However, If I try to compile on my
production machine (Elite K7S5A, 2.4GHz, 512MB) while * is running the
zaptel and asterisk compiles seg fault. I am assuming that they will
compile correctly if I bring down * and rmmod the zaptel driver. 0.7.1
compiled and is now running.

Traceroute equivalent
Is there a traceroute equivalent in the VoIP world? I would like to see the
route a call takes after it gets to the gateway. Basically showing all the
hops until it reaches it's destination or PSTN termination.

Smallest server continued...
This thread got me thinking of other servers that would run asterisk. The
obvious question comes up if Xebian (the xbox version of Debian) would run
as a SIP only server? Asterisk on an XBox would be a small box! Cheap too.

one extention, multiple phones
Is it possible to get a few 7960's and asterisk to allow all
of the 7960 phones to use one extentsion and can only be used
by one person at a time, have it indicate on the other 7960's
when one of the others has the line engaged. Basicly so like
I can setup a rule when an incoming call comes from IAX to
divert to this extension, it will ring the extension (thus all
phones), and allow me to

SAMBA and NFS
Can samba connect to an NFS share and then re-export that share so my
windows XP users can connect to it? Basically I have a NFS share that all
of my windows XP users need read-only access to. The goal of this project
is to replace an old MS Gateway Services for Novell server (using IPX) with
something that can do the same thing but over IP. I am pretty sure Novell
and AD can share files

I'm trying to set up Asterisk on FreeBSD 4.9 to route

Banging my head on wall (hosts)
Ok, so I figured I''d move this here since IRC isn''t the place for it.
Ok, so I have my 40ish servers. Of those, 36 or so of them have hosts
entries that need to look like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
172.x.x.x dbprod1.xxx.com dbprod1
172.x.x.x mgmt01.xxx.com mgmt01 puppet certmaster
172.x.x.x mybox.xxx.com mybox
Where mybox is the name of the box.

Using the right network interface
Hi everyone,
samba 2.2.5
The server I'm using has 2 interfaces so using the
interface parameter I'm telling samba to use eth0 but
for some reason when I do netstat it is listening on eth1
interface = eth0 (the IP is 192.168.6.10)

Dovecot 2.3.0 TLS
All,
our dovecot installation provides a bundle of intermedia CA
certificates using the ssl_ca option.
2.3.0 does not supply the bundle, resulting in various clients either
complaining about an unverifiable server cert, or quietly not
connecting. The log has

This is a production machine, so I would rather stick with the
downgrade until you've looked into the issue. I went home late
yesterday. ;)

Hi,
the email status problem that I reported for Dovecot 0.99.10.5 on
June 3rd does still show up in 0.99.10.6. Quoting myself:

Using Samba and Rational ClearCase Tools
Hello,
We are using Samba to connect our ClearCase server to the Windows environment. Our original configuration was one server hosting all our VOBs and Views. We have Samba configured to allow mapping of shares to our ClearCase Windows Clients. Everything was working fine. Now we have set up a second server to host all our Views separate from the VOBs. So we have a View server and a separate VOB

Is there a maximum number of shares samba can serve?
I am being asked to determine the feasibility of serving hundreds
(300-400) of directories as individual shares instead of sharing a single
parent directory.
Personally, I don't think this is a good idea. Clients will go from
having a single connection to a single share to 50-300 connections to
multiple shares. That can't be good for performance or load.

Wine success: HABit Wordstar Converter (version 3)
I had need of a bit of computer archeology (oddly enough, for a couple
of archaeologists, but that's another story). I used Henry Bartlett'
HABit Wordstar Converter (version 3)
(http://www.hotkey.net.au/~hambar/habit/wsconvrm.htm) to convert some
Wordstar for Mess-DOS files to text and HTML. It worked just fine
