iaxComm is a crossplatform open source softphone utilizing the IAX2 protocol.
It is distributed as part of Steve Kann's iaxclient library.
I've just posted new Windows, Linux and Mac OSX binaries to sourceforge.
The Windows binary was compiled on WinXP.
The Linux binary was compiled on RedHat 9.
The OSX binary was compiled by Andreas Wrede on 10.3 and was tested on 10.4
(Tiger) beta.

Iax Client Library Issues? (DIAX, iaxComm, etc.)
Hi,
I seem to be having problems with IAX clients based on the iaxClient
library. I have been working on my own client (an augmentation to the
Call Manager I released last week) and it seems to regularly miss
incoming calls entirely. It also occasionally misses the drop signal
when the remote end drops a call.
Has anybody else seen this kind of behavior? I have tested with my
client, with

iaxComm - IAX client for Win32
iaxclient.sourceforge.net is the home of Steve Kann's crossplatform port of the
iax library.
iaxComm is a client written in c++ using wxWindows. There is a Win32 binary on
the site. I think that it should be compilable on Linux and MacOSX, but can't
test it.
Feedback is welcome.

Having some trouble with segfaults and sound quality all of a sudden (since
I recompiled from the latest source) when 2 iaxComm clients connect. First

LGPL IAX2 software phone (for WIndows/Linux platforms)
I don't want to rain on Dan's parade, but I'd like to call everyone's attention
to an existing project.
Steve Kann has developed a crossplatform IAX/IAX2 library, and there are a few
clients available for it.
I have written iaxComm using the wx toolkit. It compiles and runs under Windows
XP using the MinGW tool chain. A precompiled IAX only version is available at

On Topic: Cheapest Asterisk USB Key? (was: Re: Off Topic: Open Source USB Softphone)
Here's a flipside of this subject: what is the absolute cheapest Linux
device that can be connected to a PC's USB port? That has just enough
power for a minimal Asterisk server running on it. The Asterisk just
maintains a CDR database on its Flash memory, which it periodically
submits over the PC's network connection with an HTTP hit on a remote
full-service Asterisk server? No call

I can't get iaxComm to connect to guest@misery.digium.com
On advice from others I dropped gnophone in favor of iaxComm.
I am operating on an IBM T30 laptop Redhat Linux 2.4.20-8 with an Intel
i810 audio chipset (comes in the laptop).
I am using the Gnome desktop.
There is no reference to alsa or oss to be found.
All audio components function fine.
Nothing else is running and I have an active broadband internet
connection.
I can ping www.digium.com

can iaxcomm run on the same server as Asterisk?
I can run iaxcomm by itself...and I start up Asterisk
on it own...
But if I start Asterisk first, then launch iaxcomm
I get this error:
bash-2.05b$ ./iaxcomm
Error wxWindows Fatal Error : Couldn't Initialize IAX
Client .
bash-2.05b$
and if I start iaxcomm first then launch asterisk, I
get this startup error with asterisk:
bash-2.05b# asterisk -vvvcg

iaxComm problems
Hi Folks.
I have installed two sip phones and two PCs in a network. The later with
iaxComm. Calls are made between the sip phones and between a sip phone and a
PC.
When calling from one PC to the other the iaxComm shows ??? in the status
column and the call can't be answered.
The same goes if anyone calls from the outside and tries to reach a PC.
Any ideas?
Regards.

Sort of OT: Recommended USB handset for use with iaxComm?
One of my coworkers needs to get a softphone set up to my Asterisk system;
he's a Linux user, so it looks like about the only IAX2 option is iaxComm.
For ease of use (he'll be using this a fair bit), I'm recommending that he
get a USB handset; I'm just having trouble finding any US retailers for
them. :)
Could someone recommend a USB handset that's compatible with iaxComm

Weird Delay (> 30 sec)
Hello all!
Has anyone expirienced the following:?
With an IAXclient softphone (like diax/iaxcomm/etc) Dialing to the PSTN
(zap) or a SIP device has no problems .. but when I make calls between 2
softphones I have weird problems....
in about 4 out of 10 IAX-2-IAX softphone calls I get a big delay .. in
the beginning of the call it's all okay... (delay < 0.5 sec) but the
longer the call
