Asterisk behind nat with hole, hardcoding solution
Hi, A brief 6-step guide on how to hardcode a change in the Asterisk source that will allow it to work from behind a nat device. I know it?s messy, but it may prove useful to some people. 1. First punch a whole in your nat device. I just forwarded the port 5060 (for sip) and all ports between 10000 to 10020 (for rtp) to my asterisk gateway. 2. Now make sure your /etc/asterisk/rtp.conf correctly

Samba and non-ascii characters
Hello everyone, I have a problem with smbmount. After I mount a certain share, I can not view files with weird charaters in their name. This happends for example with the copyright char. After searching with Google I still didn't find an answer. I guess it has something to do with a 'charset' command, but I can't figure out wich one, and what character table I should use...

Remote identity management
Hi, Until now, I've only managed local user management on small network with no more than five or six machines, e. g. all user data stored locally on each and every machine (/etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, /etc/group). Now I'd like to learn remote identity management, that is, all user data stored centrally on one machine (so I don't have to wonder who has which UID and GID when I want

Asterisk both behind a NAT and outside at the same time
I've read a lot of the descriptions of handling NAT with Asterisk, and the use of both the nat and canreinvite flags. I am very familiar with Sip and NAT but have not seen an answer to the following question. My Asterisk server runs on a machine with two ethernets. One is an external net, with exposed IP addresses. The other is an internal net with natted IP addresses. Thus the server

How do I connect to mongrel that''s behind a router from outside world
Hello, I am new to mongrel. I have mongrel running on a linux machine (Fedora core), which sits behind a broadband router. The linux machine has the typical 192.168... internal IP address. We use the dynamicdns to connect to the linux machine from outside world. Now, my question is how can myself and my colleagues connect to mongrel from outside world. I tried starting mongrel with the -a

stem() bug?
Is the following a bug with stem() or is there something else that I am missing? I ran stem() on the vector x below and got stem(x-10) instead of stem(x). If I subtract 1 from x, I get a correct answer. If I add 1 to x, I still get a wrong answer. If I add 10 to x, I get a correct answer. I'm not sure what to make of this, other than to think it is a bug. Can anyone tell me if this is a bug?

RTP stream when * and Xlite are both behind Nat devices.
Hi, I have an Asterisk box behind a NAT address and also a Xlite 4 soft phone behind a different NAT network. Asterisk -> Nat -> Internet -> Nat -> Softphone. I can register my softphone to the asterisk box ok via SIP but the RTP stream from the asterisk box is addressed to the private non-routeable address of the softphone when I turn on rtp debuging. How can I configure the rtp

Registering Remote Sipura to Asterisk (both behind firewall)
Can anybody point or provide working configuration how to register Sipura to Asterisk over the Internet. Both Sipura and Asterisk are behind firewalls. I'll be force to use SIP as that is the only protocol that Sipura is using. Do I need to enter any "STUN Server:" setting in "SIP" tab. On Asterisk I think I only need to make changes in sip.conf isn't it? What

R-beta: Still want restart() in R
People's valiant efforts to sort out CODA aside, the burning question remains: has anybody made any headway with restart()? or any other way (and there may well be better) of trapping `fatal' errors from calls within a function. How to handle non-ascii characters
Hi, the last couple of days I''m trying to index some txt files. Once indexed I have the habit of checking the contents of the Ferret index with Luke. But everytime I tried to open the index I got a ''read past EOF'' error. I managed to get it down to the way Ferret handles non-ascii characters. I have one txt file with the following content ''a o b c''
