MPPE required, but kernel has no support.
Ok, on to new swamps.
I would like to enable PPTP on CentOS4 to accept connections from
clients running MicroSoft Win2K and XP pro from outside our firewall.
I am testing pptpd-1.2.3-0 and tells me that I need kernel support
for MPPE, which I suppose is MicroSoft's own form of PtoP encryption.
Is there a way of doing this without rebuilding the kernel? If so,
how?

Jim

pptp vpn through CentOS 4.3.
Hello,
We can't connect to our pptp server through our CentOS gateway with a XP
client.
The linux client is working but not the XP client. I know for a fact that
the pptp server
is not the problem because if I connect the XP machine directly to the
Internet the
pptp vpn is working.
I know about the pptp-conntrack-nat patch, I compiled the 2.4.9 kernel,
with
patch-o-matic-ng-20060511.tar.bz2

Vpn Trouble
I am trying shorewall as my previous post With alisias on eth1 loc and 4
pptp client vpns.
The odd thing is when I enter one of the vpns in interfaces such as vpn1 it
works.
But if I enter the vpn in the hosts file shorewall blocks the vpns.

samba + pptp
Hi guys,
I have samba domain controller running at a client. It's a fairly
simple and straightforward setup, uses smbpasswd for auth, nothing
fancy.
The client wants to be able to vpn in and access their files. I setup
pptp, and use the built in WindowsXP client.
After establishing the vpn connection, I can access the domain
controller. I get asked for my username and pass - type in

VPN server and logon to Samba PDC
My goal is to make VPN access to our Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7.0) so that users
can access there home shares from Windows clients.
I have read the instructions at
http://samba.org/ftp/unpacked/lorikeet/pppd/final-report.pdf, but I can't
make it work. Don't know if is due to my lack of skills or has something to
do with the Popop functionality in FreeBSD.
Following the instructions, i made a

Regression of 5616?
I'm wondering if I'm seeing a regression of 5616 with 3.4.8. I'm trying to
set-up pptpd with winbind, which I'm doing on two machines on Debian lenny,
and I'm trying on Debian Squeeze now. The Windows client is saying "Error
778: It was not possible to verify the identity of the server." The logs say
that everything is ok, and that the client is hanging up the

PPTP VPN server
Hi
I've been using linux to give VPN access to my corporate LAN using the
following software:
Centos 5.2 x86
kernel 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5xen
pptpd (poptop) 1.3.4
ppp 2.4.4
The Centos server has directly connected the Internet Router, on one
interface (eth1) and the LAN on another (eth0) and it works as the
firewall/VPN server of my LAN.
It mostly works, however, if I try to connect using

Using Samba over VPN - shares disconnect on Windows clients
I am running Poptop 1.1.4 VPN server, Samba 3.0.6, RH 9 (2.4.20-8 patched
for mppe-mppc). When the end user connects via VPN, they can create a share
to the samba shared folder that was created. When they clost the explorer
window, then reopen the shared drive from the "My Computer" view, the share
can not be re-opened with the error that the mapped drive is alreay in use.

NTLM_AUTH failing?
Thank you, Rowland. I will be going by this afternoon and I will check.
The thing is, if it IS "\", how do I enter that into the pptp-options
file? The entire list of parameters are in quotes, so do I need a
double-backslah or anything?

NTLM_AUTH failing?
I am not sure how to determine the separator, but 'which' shows
"/usr/bin/ntlm_auth". I already ran it while on-site. Since it is
broken, I cannot remote in. I will have to show up on-site again,
possibly Thursday.

NTLM_AUTH failing?
That is client setup. We have that under control. Our Linux users use
Network Manager to connect and our Windows users use the stuff built
into Windows. My problem is server-side. The server is a PPTP VPN
(running via pptpd) and I have to add the lines below to make it work.
plugin winbind.so
ntlm_auth-helper "/usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=ntlm-server-1"
Now, that allows ALL

PDC over PPTP VPN
Hi.
I'm trying to add a client running Windows XP Professional SP2 to a PDC
server running Samba 3.0.13 over a VPN tunnel made with PPTP.
The VPN tunnel works without problem, and I can see the shared resources on
the PDC from the client searching the server with its hostname (I can access
to \\server).
When I try to add the client to the PDC, Windows XP ask me for the root
user, but after
