Lstat & Dovecot
I am chasing a problem with dovecot generating an error:
lstat(/var/spool/virtual_mailboxes/[domain dir]/[user dir]/Maildir/cur)
failed: Permission denied
I first tried making the directory world readable, same error. Them
tried to lstat [the path] at the console and receive the error:

I have a manpage on lstat, but no file. "Yum provides" showed the

folder hierarchies with migration from cyrus to dovecot2
Hi,
I finally migrated my IMAP server from cyrus to dovecot2. I have been
using cyrus since many years and have not much experience with dovecot
yet though.
I've converted my imap server using cyrus2dovecot (several times until
I thought it was correct) but there is one thing left which confuses
me and I'm not sure what I can or need to do to change it.
With Cyrus I used

ATA-over-Ethernet v's iSCSI
Nick,
What are you planning on running over the shared connection? Database, eMail, File Shares? How many users? How much data? What is your I/O profile?
I've worked with 'enterprise' storage most of my career either as a consumer, adviser or provider - can't comment on AoE other than to suggest you look at what are the business & technical goals, how they solve it and what

Login with firstname.lastname instead of loginname
Some of our users use to login as
firstname.lastname
or
firstname.lastname at charite.de
instead of using the "correct"
"flastname" login name.
In order to get this behaviour a long-gone co-worker wrote an
authdaemon.pl, which speaks the courier-authdaemon protocol.
How can I emulate this behaviour with dovecot?
Basically, all I need is a usernamen mapping ala:

dovecot and firstname.initial.lastname mbox format archive
hi
Today I have been in a puzzling fight with 2 dovecot versions that I would
like to ask some comments on.
The situation is this:
- I have a considerable mail archive in mbox format (yes, I know, but that
is what I have..).
- My mail reader is mutt 1.5.20 by the way.
- Some of these mbox files have names like firstname.initial.lastname
Note the . seperating the parts of the email-ers name.

Login with firstname.lastname instead of loginname - WORKING
3 years ago (!) I aksed about this and finally I implemented it today:
>> # NEW
>> passdb {
>> driver = passwd
>> # firstname.lastname at charite.de:password:uid:gid:(gecos):home:(shell):user=realloginname
>> args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot.login_via_email
>> }
>If you're only using it as a passdb, you don't need the uid/gid/home.

w.r.t. firstname lastname
I try not to post my real name on the internet. I'm basically asking
for commit access for user sub page space for formatting, & staging of
documents for management review. When I'm actually @ linbit ill
probably start the motions to have an official account something like
"linbit-usa" to publish the works under. I'm used to mediawiki,
moinmoin wiki is new to me.

[OT] List of all email users
This is not CentOS-specific, hence OT.
I need a list of all email users on my system (there are hundreds of them).
The list could be extracted from /etc/aliases and the virtusertable.
Does anyone know of a script that would do this automatically? It would have
to
- exclude commented-out lines (of course)
- exclude duplicates
- produce a list of usernames (or maybe unresolved email addresses for

Sieve vacation issue - Dovecot + Postfix + LDA
Hi to all,
I have an issue with Dovecot Sieve on sending vacation message... Actually
Sieve is working and I can use all the filters but just vacation is causing
a problem and only in specific case...
I have Dovecot + Postfix + LDA running on Ubuntu 11 without MySql database
for users but I'm using virtusertable instead. The problem is when linux
user ( mail user ) is different from mail

redirecting some addresses with sendmail
I have a fully working cyrus+sendmail mail server hosting all users
for foo.com. Company foo has been acquired by company bar and it has
been decided that bar.com is the new domain of choice. The
administrator of bar.com has added a pile of redirects to send various
user at bar.com addresses so they come up to my server at foo.com. My
users have changed their From: addresses to user at bar.com and

rsyncing as root when root login is disabled?
I'm trying to do a simple rsync:
rsync -av admin@mydomain.com:/backup .
But a number of files in /backup are readable only by
root, and hence rsync gives these errors:
sync: send_files failed to open
"/backup/etc/mail/virtusertable.db": Permission denied
(13)
Since root login is disabled, I can't simple do
'root@mydomain.com'. I searched a bit and saw this:
rsync -av

I am looking for a way for sendmail to ALLOW auth by IP and not user name
(its a closed network) or even SKIP invalid auth ?
Is that even possible ?

ast_fax with sendmail
Has anyone configured ast_fax (sending faxes via asterisk) with sendmail?
The creation of rules to trap all numbers <mailto:XXXXXXXXXXX@domain.com>
XXXXXXXXXXX@domain.com seems too complicated. Does anyone have setup
details to share? (I don't want to switch MTA's).
As a workaround, I could launch the app automatically from sendmail using an
alias like:
fax: "|

Does Wine leave a Zombie-Thread behind?
Hi all,
I'm quite new to Wine, so sorry if this question was discussed before.
I installed Wine to have Lotus Notes running on my Linux-Box (SuSE 7.2). I use
to start it via a desktop shortcut. After closing Notes I still find a wine
process running. If I start it from the command line, I also have to kill the
process after Notes is finished (CRTL-C).
Is this a bug or a feature? Any

Deliver, sendmail, virtual users, and catch-all addresses
I have spent a long time looking into this and can't find the answer
I'm looking for, so I'm asking here. I'm cutting the example down to
just the bare minimums. This is NOT my actual configuration, but is
sufficient for asking this question:
How can I use dovecot's deliver LDA to deliver to virtual users, but
then have unknown virtual users fall back to catch-all

Software RAID vs 'fake/ on-board RAID'
Setting:
We are setting up a low usage server for an alfresco km/collaboration system
It is a low-end server with a pair of 1.5 TB disks we will be mirroring
The server comes with Intel's on-board 'fake raid/ low-end RAID' capability
and for price reasons we have not selected a mainstream RAID card
Prior thoughts:
Searches on the net indicate no performance advantage, and possible
