How to upgrade WBEL4 to CentOS4?
Hi, I've got a couple of servers that are running WBEL4 that I would like to upgrade to CentOS4. I noticed that there is a FAQ which explains how to upgrade WBEL3 to CentOS3, but haven't found anything similar for WBEL4. Are the instructions for the WBEL3 upgrade the same for WBEL4? Should I be doing something else instead? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eric

Wherefore whitebox?
Well, I'm a recent convert from WBEL. My biggest concern with CentOS is that the community here seems to want to be more than a recompile of RHEL. But WBEL is floundering, what with Katrina and Rita, and there really being only 1 developer behind it, etc. I offer an automated shell script to switch from WBEL4 to CentOS4 (easy, it's hosted on my home DSL line!) It assumes that

Modify rescue mode boot?
Hi, I have been able to boot with pxe and load linux rescue, it loads loader and ask me lang, keyboard, load base from nfs, etc... then it ask me about mount chroot or skip, I just choose skip to go to shell. What I want is boot in rescue mode and get a shell directly without having to enter lang, keyboard, nfs ip and dir, skip, etc... once booted on shell I want it automatically run a script

Boot/init problem with IBM Netfinity 4500
I hope the CentOS people don't mind me cross-posting for their input. I've just done a clean, text-mode minimal WBEL4 install on an IBM Netfinity 4500, essentially the same hardware as an xSeries 340. The install went fine but now the box will boot, run through the initrd init sequence, perform its switchroot then hang here... SELinux: Initializing. SELinux: Starting in permissive mode

tripwire support
Me again... I looked for tripwire rpms and came up blank on your mirrors. I was able to find them at a rpmfind site (for both el3 and el4), but it would be nice to have it included in the extras area. Any chance of this happening anytime soon? Thanks in advance Brad

php 5.2
Hi, I was asking about php 5.2 because I would like to use this program with these requirements: http://www.magentocommerce.com/system-requirements This ecommerce store is built with the zend framework and requires php 5.2. Mcrypt is not in the centos mirrors either. I did manage to get this beta ecommerce store installed on php 5.1.6-12 by removing the mycript line in the install xml file and

Simple Install of x86_64 CentOS 5 is failing
It gets all the way through the install, and then when it reboots, grub can't find the kernel. Grub can't find the kernel because the kernel was not instaled for some reason? I looked at the box through rescue mode and in /boot there is no kernel. Any ideas what might have happened? Cheers...james

pam_mount_conf?
Have any of you folks actually managed to get pam_mount working? A quick google shows a ton of messages saying "you can use pam_mount" to automatically mount a user's home directory on log in, but no messages saying "I use pam_mount" etc -- I'm suspecting it might not actually work. Or at least I might not be smart enough to make it work. First -- pam_mount 0.5.11

Possible new CentOS user (currently WBEL)
Hi, For a few months i've been using WhiteBox Enterprise Linux. In fact, i've migrated all my companie's servers (about 20) to this RHEL distro like. Well, it's not that i'm not satisfied, but WBEL is a one man show and that causes me some preocupation. And besides, it seems to me that it can't stand up to the rythm RHEL evolves. That's why i'm writing to you,

Using raid 1 for rollback purposes
Hi All, For quite some time I've used raid 1 as a means of providing a rollback mechanism for an upgrade (which I learned from others long ago). So essentially, before an upgrade you split the mirrors and upgrade one side or the other. If your upgrade goes well you sync one way, if your upgrade does not you sync the other (much hand waving and chanting going on, as its more complicated than

Installation problems on old IBM server
I'm trying to install CentOS 4.2 on an old IBM x300 server, but it hangs during the boot from cd. The last entries I can see before it dies are the two "agpgart" lines. I've been playing around with bios settings (video settings and serial settings since the serial driver is the next thing going on in the kernel) and boot params (noapic, acpi=off etc) but I just can't

Problems migrating from WBEL
Hi folks: I've recently migrated one of my production servers (bad Jason!) from WBEL to CentOS 3.3 using Donavan's instructions in the FAQ (http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=19). While it was as painless as the document suggests, I've run into problems with postgrey (a postfix greylisting daemon) on my server. Whenever I try to start postgrey, I get the

Help with Winbind
I've been trying for weeks to get winbind working with RedHat Linux 8.0. I've got everything setup per the winbind docs on http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WINBIND. I've successfully joined my NT4 domain with smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U Administrator. Running wbinfo -u returns my domain user list, as well as wbinfo -g returning my domain groups. getent

Mod_auth_mysql
Hello, I just upgraded from WBEL 4 to Centos 4.1 per the FAQ. I'm pretty sure after running 'yum update', mysql and apache were updated. I was previously using mod_auth_mysql under WBEL 4 to password protect several directories but now things seem to be broken. When I go to a password protected directory I get an Internal Server Error 500. The only explanation in the error log is

pam settings for winbind
This is more of a pam question then a samba question, but I thought I'd start here and see if I can get an answer. I've gotten pam_winbind.so working with gdm (on RHAT 8) using the following /etc/pam.d/gdm file. I've put + signs to show the lines I added I added to the stock RHAT 8 gdm pam def.: #%PAM-1.0 + auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_winbind.so + auth
