Continous variables with implausible transformation?
Dear r users
I have a question in coding continuous variables in logistic regression.
When "rcs" is used in transforming variables, sometime it gives implausible
associations with the outcome although the model x2 is high.
So what's your tips and tricks in coding continuous variables.
P.S. How to code variables as linear+square in the formula such as lrm.
lrm(y~x+sqrt(x))

ordisurf (pkg vegan) gives implausible result
I'm having trouble with the ordisurf function in the vegan package.
I have created an ordination plot (cmdscale) of 60 samples based on
Bray-Curtis dissimilarities, and would like to overlay various soil edaphic
characteristics as possible clues to the clustering I observe in my plot.
However, I find that ordisurf creates a surface on the plot that is a
perfect, even gradient - and

Optimising the Rsync algorithm for speed by reverting to MD4 hashing
Hi,
From v3.0.0 onwards the hash function implemented by Rsync was changed from MD4 to MD5 (http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/src/rsync-3.0.0-NEWS). My understanding is that MD5 is a more secure, slower version of MD4 but I am not convinced that the added security of MD5 would alone have merited the change from MD4 (particularly since MD4 is ~30% faster than MD5). I wonder if I am missing other

Unlocking Vonage ATA 186
In the process of investigating a Cisco ATA 186 that was locked by
Vonage, I found that you can still unlock the device yourself. But
there's a catch.
The device's design has a great plus: a DIP32 *socketed* SST28SF040A
flash chip. I found an 8 digit unlock code at 0x03FA71-0x03FA78. I do
not know if that is a standard location.
If you have the equipment, you're in luck. But

ATA-186 de-register
Is it just me or do others have a problem with the ATA-186
de-registering? Every couple of hours, if I don't make use of the ATA
connected line, I find that I have to unplug and let the ATA reboot.
After that it is good to go for awhile, but eventually I have to repeat
the process. My ATA sits behind a NATd firewall, any ideas what might
cause the de-registration?

Cisco ATA 186 / FXO card problem
Hello,
I've got a Cisco ATA 186 from Vonage plugged into my Asterisk box with a
X100P card. This works great for the most part, but I'm having a
disconnect supervision problem.
I suspect the Cisco device doesn't provide any sort of analog disconnect
supervision when it gets a SIP BYE message indicating the far-end has hung
up. This causes Asterisk to leave the channel up

Cisco ATA-186 Firmware upgrade
I am currently running 2.16. Is there good reason to get the update to
3.1? Anything significant? Otherwise I am happy how it is, i just
don't want to miss out on anything.

NAT working outbound with Asterisk and ATA-186 phones
Thanks, Mark!
Here's a summary of what one needs to do in order to get NAT working
with Asterisk. Please note that I have a Cisco ATA-186, and your
experience may be slightly different based on the equipment you're
using. You'll need to have a CVS updated version of Asterisk as
2003-03-06 ~2:00 PM EST.
NOTE: This currently works for outbound calling only, not inbound.

ATA-186 Dialplans
Does anyone have experience with ATA-186 Dialplans?
If I was doing this in Asterisk I would use the following patterns:
911
_9NXXXXXX
_91XXXXXXXXXX
_NXXX
_*XX
I tried the following in my ATA-186, but it doesn't seem to work:
911S|9.r6S|91.r9S|^1.r2S|*..S
Does any one have any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks in advance,

three way calling and cisco ata 186
I use cisco ATA 186 ( Version: v2.16 ) with sip protocol and
asterisk as pbx. I need feature called as 'three way calling' or
'transfer with consultation'. Registering, calling and 'blind transfer'
work fine.
Is this feature provided by sip clients or by asterisk itself ?
What I have to configure in ATA and what keys I have to press
on my phones ?
