G.729 Licenses from Digium
According to digium's site, "Note: Please do not attempt to use the G.729 code in a SCSI-only system. We are currently working with VoiceAge to correct this issue." (found at http://www.digium.com/index.php?menu=asterisk_g729). Does anyone know what these issues are? Can anyone define SCSI-only system? I know this sounds kinda dumb, but I have a server with SCSI and IDE interfaces,

G.729 on /dev/sda
I've just setup a new asterisk server, and I need to have G.729 working on this system. The problem is I don't have any IDE drives (and therefore no /dev/hda etc), but only /dev/sda.   Is there really *no* way to license G.729 on a SCSI-only system? IMHO it's really stupid to replace an entire server because of a licensing issue. There *must* be a solution.   Anyone, please? Or at

G729 licensing
Hi, I'm looking for a good codec to use on a personal VoIP setup. It is strictly for my personal use, I'll never resell it, make money or it, or whatever. It seems a free personal-use G729 codec is available as a WIN32 library. I find it puzzling that at the same time one has to pay license fees to use it under Linux, even non-commercially. I was wondering -- am I missing something?

G.729 codec doesn't seem to work *even* after installing the license
Hi, I am trying to post this again as I am getting no answers and the support@digium.com bounces... (I have searched the whole list and can't find the answer either) I have installed a 5 user license for G.729 and want to route calls through Asterisk from my G.729 phone to Cisco AS5300 also using G729. Both Cisco and the phone connect using this codec if I do not force the call to go

G.729 licensing - Hardware Devices rather than software
I have been reading a number of the past threads about G.729 licensing., about how the registration keys are linked to the network configurations, limited number of registrations etc, etc. Is there no reason why the decoding can't be done in with some Asterisk compatible hardware, so that once the adapter is bought, all licensing issues go away. In that way the owner could fiddle with the

g.729 - licenses and opinions
I have a few SIP phones, Cisco 7960s, and was looking into implementing some compression, ala G.729. I'm looking into purchasing a g729 licenses just to get an idea of performance and voice quality, over lans, wireless and single channel isdn. Does anyone have positive/negative experience w/ getting licenses/support from Digium? Hows the sound quality compared w/ g.711? Is 729 better

G.729 for Asterisk
Hello I have a confusion relating to G.729 codec. I know how to install where to get license but i really don't know why we need it? Why people use G.729 codec with asterisk? look all functionality can be done with out it ie calling from sip to iax protocol and sip/ iax to E1, then why we need this?? regards Adam -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

No compatible codecs
Original Post ---------------- I have an Asterisk related problem with mutualphone. I can connect to any number with any softphone that I am using (iaxcomm, SJPhone, and a few others). Also I have a Grandstream BT 101. But I cannot call (via Asterisk) to mutualphone destinations. Other destinations go fine. A working phone call (e.g. from iaxcomm) gives the following on the console: --

g.729 licenses do not release when used in Voicemail
Upon testing the g.729 licenses in our lab we found the following issues in a plain SIP environment: 1. When g.729 licenses are used in leaving a Voicemail, they do not get released upon clearing the channel. 2. If the voicemail.conf has options for 2 format types (ie. wav49 and WAV), it consumes 2 g.729 licenses. I have reported this to the bugtracker. maui*CLI> show version Asterisk

Lost my G.729 licenses
I had a disturbing problem with my G.729 licenses the other day and I'm hoping that someone can provide me with some insight since Google didn't. I have 2 Asterisk boxes, 1 acting as the main server with 10 G.729 licenses and 1 that is acting as a media gateway with 2 G.729 licenses. The gateway build is: CVS-02/16/04-23:57:06. I have a TDM400 card with 1 FXS board (unused) and 1

Speex newbie: win32 encoder and Java applet playback?
Hi! I?ve just discovered Speex, and sorry if this isn?t the right place to ask this, but I found no other mailing list (some projects have a "users" and a "developers" list separately, I guess this isn?t the case with Speex. If it is, please let me know). First, how I got here: 1. I?m looking for some low-bitrate codec to reduce the size of some very long (think 4-5+ hrs of

G.729? Worth it?
Hi All, For a small installation using ITSPs via DSL is G.729 a worthwhile exercise? I have G.729 capable SIP phones and my ITSPs cupport the codec so I could go end-to-end without transcoding. What's call quality like compared to G.711, GSM or iLBC? Michael -- Michael Graves mgraves@pixelpower.com Sr. Product Specialist www.pixelpower.com

G729 - What versions can Asterisk support?
Hello, I'm trying to find out if Asterisk will support plain G729 or G729b. I've read all over that it supports G729, but I can't seem to find any explicit remarks regarding the specific versions of the codec Asterisk will support. I noticed that Digium allows Asterisk users to register and download G729a, but refers to it as G729 on it's pages. I also noticed that on

Digium G.729 licenses
Hi all, We have already bought 30 Digium G.729 licenses to install in several machines, but Digium only has provided on key to use in registration. We suspect that the registration has assigned the whole 30 licenses to the same server. Do anyone know how to distribute the licenses among several servers? Thanks in advance. -- Arturo D?az Contact me on FWD: 870436 Skype: arturo.diaz.almagro

Help with IAX , voice Distortion or Breakage.
Hello all, We have the following problem: When calling via iax, the sound is off after a while - most often after about 5 minutes (sometimes later or earlier) - at one end or at both ends. While the channel is up, and packages are still being transmitted, you just can't hear anything. Sometimes you can hear something just a little, but with the voice greatly distorted, sounding like a
