smbd eating 99% CPU what to do?
Do you know what can cause the smbd process to steal out the cpu usage
(99%) and keep running like that for days?
I have a Samba PDC 3.0.1pre3 running on top of RH9 2.4.20 kernel. Below
is the current top report. Strangely, the PDC still responds in
reasonable good response times to heavy network duty.traced the
log.%machine name% and didn't find anything . I haven't tried to restart

Network card help please
Hi ya'll,
Running v5 ..
I have 2 Linksys PCI cards running already without any problems. These
were recognized by the system as ADMTek NC100 cards, per usual... they run
on eth0 and eth2 ... have for months.... no problems.
I added a third Linksys PCI card to the mobo, fired the computer up, and
it is not recognized at all. It has been many years since I had this
problem of a network card

Please Help -- Raid shutdown problem
We are running redhat 7.2 with 2.4 kernel. There is a 2 disk RAID 1 array which had a disk fail. The disk that failed had GRUB on it which in turn made the system unbootable. Our recovery method in a time of panic was to reinstall on a new disk saving certain partitions and reconstructing the array afterwards.
During the reinstall we made a boot disk. Now we have 2 problems.
1.) The system will

Connecting Asterisks via SIP
Hi.
It is propbably a really naive problem, but I really couldn't find
answer how to connect two Astrisks via SIP. I managed to do it via IAX
without any problem. But this is a test installation and I would like to
connect them via SIP.
So I have two computers:
pbx1 - 10.1.3.207
pbx2 - 10.1.3.204
pbx1 handles extensions 1xx and pbx2 for extensions 2xx. I would like to
call user from pbx2 to

Kernel lockup (kjournald?)
I am getting an odd situation when backing up a number of ext3 filesystems
and was wondering if it could be caused by journalling. Over the space of
a minute the load average will jump from 2 to over 40 and the system will
be unresponsive for anywhere from 8 to 25 minutes. I am going to be trying
a number of things, but was wondering if anyone could see the reason for
the high load given the

Clarify TTY and virtual consoles
Hi,
I need some help to clarify TTY and virtual consoles. Thanks a lot.
1. I learned that to switch from one TTY to another, one must be at the physical machine. Does the same apply to virtual consoles?
2. My /etc/inittab includes the following. Does that mean there's only one instance of TTY on my CentOS?

CentOS 6: /etc/init/start-ttys.conf ignored
hi
why are tty3-tty6 started after this config change?
i would like to have only tty1 finally becasue on a virtual machine
there is no need for the other processes since CTRL+ALT+Fx is caught
by the own system and remote console mostly not needed at all
[root at centos ~]# cat /etc/init/start-ttys.conf

No text output in login console and shell
Hello,
I have a remote IBM x3550 M4 server that I try to remote control through
IMM2. The problem: only the blinking cursor is visible in login console.
It moves when I type. It moves to where "Login: _" should be if I press
ctrl+c. I can login if I enter the correct login and password, but the
shell that I get also shows only the blinking cursor and no text. I can
issue commands.

xen, iscsi and resilience to short network outages
Hi. Here is the short version:
If dom0 experiences a short (< 120 second) network outage the guests
whose disks are on iSCSI LUNs get (seemingly) unrecoverable IO errors.
Is it possible to make Xen more resiliant to such problems?
And now the full version:
We''re testing Xen on iSCSI LUNs. The hardware/software configuration is:
* Dom0 and guest OS: SLES10 x86_64
* iSCSI LUN on
