MSN Messenger 4.7 vs 5.0
Hi.
This is perhaps a little bit off-topic here, but I couldn't
find informations elsewhere, so perhaps someone can help me:
I've been using Messenger 4.7 for a while on my W2k Laptop
to place SIP-Calls via asterisk with messengers
"communications service" feature. Works fine.
Then I thought that it would be a good idea to do an upgrade
to v5.0... (yes, never touch a running

SIP client cannot connect to Asterisk
Hi:
We have got SIP clients connecting to our Asterisk fine with a DSL
connection behind router (NAT), but when we bring the Sipura 2000 ATA
to a Rogers Cable connection behind a Netgear router (NAT), the SIP
clients aren't able to reach the Asterisk at all.
We enabled the SIP debug in Asterisk, and it doesn't see any request
coming from these SIP clients, and we also tried the to use a

net view \\BIGSERVER problems
I want to share my linux printer with my windows laptop.
The printer is attached to box with redhat 7.2 and samba-2.2.1a-4.
The laptop runs windows 98 and they are connected by a netgear RP114
router.
I have been following DIAGNOSIS.txt. I had trouble with the test 2,
"ping
ACLIENT" and "ping BIGSERVER" until I added ACLIENT to /etc/hosts on
BIGSERVER and added BIGSERVER to

WLAN support
Hi folks!
First post here, so please don't bother if it's not the right place
to post those kind of questions.
I'm currently running a 4.7-release (upgrade to 4.8 planned but not
yet started) on my production box.
As I would like to setup a small WLAN (major use for my notebook,
other clients are possible) I need to know which cards are really
supported. The handbook is IMHO not

Residential router w/ QoS support?
Did anybody ever come across an affordable, residential cable/dsl router
with support for QoS?
The ones I've seen so far (Netgear, D-Link and W-Linx) do not seem to
support it. I noticed that even email can damage a G.711 stream on an
128kbit uplink, leave alone file-sharing applications. I understand this
is strictly related to *, but nevertheless of interest to many of us.

Asterisk takes over
Hello List,
I recently found out about Asterisk from an article
on http://onlamp.com
I thought I'd install it and try it out for a
learning experience. I set it up following the way
the article did it, then figured out how to make
X-Lite and Windows Messenger connect to it. The only
problem I have with it is that it takes over the sound
devices so that other programs such as Gaim can't

freebsd vpn server behind nat dsl router
Hello Greg,
I am writing you, because I saw your responses to a couple of messages on
the freebsd-security mailing list related to freebsd vpn and nat.
My situations is rather unique, and I am needing an expert's eyes to
glance at it and confirm whether it is doable or not. I have a simple
diagram that illustrates what I am trying to do, and it is located here

can't resolve NETBios names
My LAN has a single linux/samba server as a PDC/file server, and several
windows workstations. The workstations get their IP addresses from a Linksys
cable router DHCP server.
I can't get the linux machine to resolve the NETBios names of the windows
machines.

ping the windows machines by IP address, but

Line Override Device
Hello,
I am trying to solve a problem that I can foresee when I deploy Asterisk
into a few SOHO situations soon. In Nebraska and in my area of Western
Pennsylvania we have violent thunderstorms in spring and summer and
sometimes very heavy wet snow in Winter. Both type of event will take out
the power of a period of 30sec to 36-hours. So no UPS system would be able
to handle a system for over

Newbie making progress... need help with .conf files
Thanks to this group, I am making great progress in
getting up and running with Asterisk! I actually
connected with a SIP client last night and made a
phone call (still getting some error reports from
Asterisk -vvv during the process and intermittently
regarding SIP registration errors).
Up to this point, I have been using the .conf files
that were created during the basic compile and install

USB / MiFi Mobile broadband devices and CentOS 5 (32-bit)
Has anyone had any experience with the NetZero Stick? The NetZero site
says that it is 'Linux' compatible, but gives no detailed information (eg
distributations, kernel version, driver name/version, etc.).
I am running a stock CentOS 5.11 kernel (2.6.18-398.el5) on my 32-bit laptop
(IBM Thinkpad X31, with a non-PAE processor, so upgrading to CentOS 6 is not
an option, and no, I

Windows LMB and Samba DMB problems.
Note: LMB = Local Master Browser
DMB = Domain Master Browser
Have Samba 2.2.7A running embedded in a variant of ucLinux.
My interest was only to use Samba as a WINS server.
I've set up the SMB.CONF with this config. for one test:
wins support = yes
local master = no
domain master = yes
preferred master = no
os level = 0
I've set up the SMB.CONF with this config. for the other

Should I uninstall everything to install InstantRails?
Please help me I am brand new to this.
I have been following this tutorial from OnLamp
http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/01/20/rails.html
which tells you how to install ruby, rails and mySQL and get going.
Doing this tutorial convinced me RoR was the way to go for me.
So I got hold of this e-book:

My linux box speaks pppoe to external DSL modem.
Nortel NTEX35 BAAB. It's up 24/7 and provides
web service...etc.
Has 6 nics, one of them is fiber.
Asterisk is on the same box.
Don't have any IP phones yet.
The asterisk default is to listen on all 6
enet interfaces? (this is what I'd want).
Etherape is showing me a healthy dose of
subnet broadcast on each nic...which I assume

Traffinc going through interfaces
I have a little question here, I have 3 NIC cards, the one facing my hub and
two of them going to a DSL connection each, so i am doing load balancing :)
When a packet arrives to one of the interfaces, since each interface is in a
different subnet, it is sent via another one, example:
- A packet arrives to the DSL router, sends it to the ethernet on
my linux box, and after doing the
