Terrible audio quality using Asterisk and X-Lite?
Greetings! I have made great progress thanks to this
group. My Asterisk seems to be working for the most
part. I am using the following equipment/software:
* HP Vectra VL - Pentium Pro CPU - 256MB RAM
* Redhat Linux 8 - Loaded straight from distro CDs as
Developer Workstation - latest updates from RHN
* Asterisk (latest as of two weeks ago when I used CVS
checkout)
* X-Lite SIP Client on a

Nautilus & 'smb:' command
Hi,
New to Samba, RH8. Searched for an answer but without joy.
I have set up a lone Linux machine with Samba on a Windows
2K network. I can log in from Windows -> Linux. I can also
login into Windows resources from Linux when I use the
command: smbclient //hostname/sharename -U username
However, when I use Gnome Nautilus and the 'smb:' command,
I can see the workgroup, enter and see

perl, metadata and cue sheets
Hi, I am new to this mailing list.
I am adding FLAC support to the SLIMP3 player
(http://www.slimdevices.com)
and I had two questions about utilizing the format.
The SLIMP3 player is a network mp3 player with an open source server
written in perl. All audio must be re-encoded to the mp3 format before
the player can use it.
1. Do any perl modules exist to read and/or write the metadata in a

Samba3 PDC with LDAP
Dear All,
I still cannot get Samba3 (beta3) to work as PDC with
LDAP backend. I still encounter the problem of having
to join an XP workstation two times in succession
before the join is successful. This does not happen on
Samba2.2.8a. For both Samba 2.2.8a and samba3 beta i
have workstation accounts added directly to ldap (via
add-machine-script) without adding a corresponding

Sizing down Ogg Vorbis encoder binaries
Not too long ago, I converted my whole cd library to
OGG format, because I loved the way it sounded, and
the fact that is was open source. Recently, I wanted
to update my library with the latest CVS code. I just
did a compile of the CVS ogg binaries (ogg.dll,
vorbis.dll, vorbis_enc.dll, vorbis_file.dll), and I
noticed they were alot larger in size than the
default ones that came with CDex. I

pam_winbind.so
Hi all,
I am having a problem with pam_winbind.so. Is there
any documentation that tells exactly what each module
with pam_winbind.so does? In other words, what does
the auth section do, what does the account section
do??? When I try to authenticate, the auth section in
login pam seems to pass successfully, but the account
section seems to fail. Here is my login module

rsync/jscript/cygwin problem
I'm using a javascript program to execute rsync 2.5.6
compiled with cygwin on Windows XP Pro machines.
These backup the user's "My Documents" folder to a
Linux server running rsync 2.5.6 in daemon mode
when the user logs in to XP and certain conditions are
met (e.g. user hasn't backed up for a few days, user
on the network etc).
This works great except every now and then

Storing FLAC in Matroska
First, Thank you for your answers.
I using the following code to try simply decode a flac file and write the
decoded data raw PCM file. The resulting file is just noise and pops, so is
the decoded data in a different format than PCM?

FILE *inputFile;
FILE *outputFile;
char *filename;

optimization to libao audio output autodetection code
Ok, this patch replaces the old patch I sent, and it
does a bit more.
For one, it sorts the linked list of drivers based on
the priority values, highest valued ones coming first.
That allows the _find_default_driver_id code to stop
looping (break) immediately when it finds a driver
that works, because it already knows it's the working
driver with the highest priority (what it normally

Question about comment field for keys
The manual page for ssh-keygen says:
"For RSA1 keys, there is also a comment field in the key file this is only for convenience to the user to help identify the key."
It seems though that RSA2 and DSA keys also have comment fields, not just RSA1. Is this just an error in the documentation?
Also the documentation says that only RSA1 key comments can be changed with ssh-keygen's

Weird 'hairpin' call rtp audio problem
Hello List
Asterisk 13.14.1 in use with pjsip stack.
On the remote side is a SBC which performs some 'nat' detection. I
suppose this means the SBC listens from where it is getting RTP data
and then replies to that ip.
As long as the asterisk is initiating the call this is fine, the
asterisk start sending RTP to the media IP of the SBC and the SBC is
sending media back.
Now I want to do

unregistered trunks and registered phones coming from the same IP
Hi,
I manage an SBC which stands between my company server farm and some SIP
telco trunks. The system works fine, for inbound and outbound calls.
Now I've configured the SBC to also act as a registration proxy, forwarding
SIP registrations coming from the Internet to my asterisk servers.
It all seems fine, but it doesn't work well, because by the time at least
one phone registers through

I was annoyed that i couldn't get GotoIf to take any expressions besides a boolean

exten => 1,1,gotoif_expr,${var} > 12:1|4:1|5
Then I immediatly obseleted it with this new embedded perl module that lets

Asterisk 13.18.3 PJSIP. Wrong Port in Contact Header in Reply to REGISTER?
Hi List
I have been pondering over a problem to use an asterisk server behind
an SBC unable to successfully handle registrations.
Now I observed something strange which I suspect might be a bug on the
asterisk side.
The SBC originates is register from Port 6011 to Port 5060 on the
Asterisk.
The Contact Header of the REGISTER contains:

Differences between PBX and SBC
Hello,
I would like to know the difference between encrypt the rtp and signaling
between two asterisks, or putting an SBC in front of each Asterisk pbx. I'm
trying to understand whether an SBC could fit an Asterisk deployment
Thanks
