Newbie - getting two local phones to communicate would be a good start :)
Hi This is hard work :) I have read the Asterisk Handbook, BudgeTone User Manual, Andy Powell's useful notes, Zac Sprackett's Asterisk Resource Pages and more. I am not a linux newbie but am new to Asterisk. I have failed to find any docs that explain how to get a very very simple, minimal, system up and I am trying to get the following to work: 2 BudgePhone 102D connected on a LAN to a

Non-GPL packages for R
Subject: Non-GPL packages for R Packages that are not licensed in a way that permits re-distribution on CRAN are frequently a source of comment and concern on R-help and other lists. A good example of this problem is the Rdonlp2 package that has caused a lot of annoyance for a number of optimization users in R. They are also an issue for efforts like Dirk Eddelbuettel's cran2deb. Powell's unconstrained derivative-free nonlinear least squares routine, VA05AD
I have used Mike Powell's optimization routine (VA05AD) from the Harwell Subroutine Library (HSL) for more than 20 years. It is no exaggeration to say that it has helped make my career (thanks Mike). I recently learned that I am not alone in this respect - apparently it still has a loyal following in all sorts of fields! It is an exceedingly fine piece of software - fast, reliable and easy to

(no subject)
Hi, I would also be in favor of a stronger stance on licenses. In industry, where we can really get in big trouble for violating a license, we often maintain internal repositories, or need to be careful about filtering what is used from CRAN. I think that is should really be a requirement the package authors commit to stating what the restrictions are on their packages. Nicholas On 10

Terrible audio quality using Asterisk and X-Lite?
Greetings! I have made great progress thanks to this group. My Asterisk seems to be working for the most part. I am using the following equipment/software: * HP Vectra VL - Pentium Pro CPU - 256MB RAM * Redhat Linux 8 - Loaded straight from distro CDs as Developer Workstation - latest updates from RHN * Asterisk (latest as of two weeks ago when I used CVS checkout) * X-Lite SIP Client on a

Asterisk & SIP
Good morning all, I'm setting up Asterisk for the first time with no prior PBX experience. I'm following Andy Powell's 'Getting Started with Asterisk' (http://www.automated.it/guidetoasterisk.htm). This is my second time through that document - as I did something weird the first time and really upset it somehow - and I wanted to ask a few general questions of the list.

Nautilus & 'smb:' command
Hi, New to Samba, RH8. Searched for an answer but without joy. I have set up a lone Linux machine with Samba on a Windows 2K network. I can log in from Windows -> Linux. I can also login into Windows resources from Linux when I use the command: smbclient //hostname/sharename -U username However, when I use Gnome Nautilus and the 'smb:' command, I can see the workgroup, enter and see

perl, metadata and cue sheets
Hi, I am new to this mailing list. I am adding FLAC support to the SLIMP3 player (http://www.slimdevices.com) and I had two questions about utilizing the format. The SLIMP3 player is a network mp3 player with an open source server written in perl. All audio must be re-encoded to the mp3 format before the player can use it. 1. Do any perl modules exist to read and/or write the metadata in a FLAC

How does Asterisk handle connecting two IP end points?
When a connection is carried between two IP end points, does the Asterisk server incur CPU usage to pass the voice bearing circuit between the two end points? Is it possible to have Asterisk setup the call but hand off the voice traffic to be handled directly between the two end points? Thanks! Chip __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Samba3 PDC with LDAP
Dear All, I still cannot get Samba3 (beta3) to work as PDC with LDAP backend. I still encounter the problem of having to join an XP workstation two times in succession before the join is successful. This does not happen on Samba2.2.8a. For both Samba 2.2.8a and samba3 beta i have workstation accounts added directly to ldap (via add-machine-script) without adding a corresponding entry in

Up to date?
Hi, before you start throwing stones to me let me tell you that I am a bit new to Linux. I downloaded Asterisk from the cvs server on Wednesday 15 July 2004, as described in Andy Powell's "Getting Started with Asterisk" (http://www.automated.it/guidetoasterisk.htm). Thanks Andy! I read about the Asterisk 1.0 RC1, and I would like to download it and install it. Could someone tell

Sizing down Ogg Vorbis encoder binaries
Not too long ago, I converted my whole cd library to OGG format, because I loved the way it sounded, and the fact that is was open source. Recently, I wanted to update my library with the latest CVS code. I just did a compile of the CVS ogg binaries (ogg.dll, vorbis.dll, vorbis_enc.dll, vorbis_file.dll), and I noticed they were alot larger in size than the default ones that came with CDex. I

How to Order Disconnect Supervision from SBC using Adit 600?
Can anyone help me with the term that SBC uses to refer to disconnect supervision? I have an Adit 600 channel bank which has helped improve the disconnect detection time down to about 8 seconds. This is still causing some issues in particular with call progress enabled in * we are having a few disconnects while calls are in session (about 2 reported in first 5 days of use). Asterisk and Cisco 7960
I'm trying to get my Cisco 7960 configured to work with Asterisk, with no luck. I'm sure I'm missing something very easy... since I know others have this working. I've stepped through Andy Powell's excellent "Getting Started with Asterisk", and it works for my X-Lite softphone. My sip.conf entry for the cisco looks like this: [cisco] type=friend username=cisco
