Firewall piercing - The Specified network name is no longer available.
Hi all.
I'm trying to set up one of my Unix machines at home so I can access my
stuff there via SMB from the Internet at large (read: from Windows-using
clients').
I'm behind two NATting devices-- the lame-p Prestige DSL modem provided by
Sprint DSL (a.k.a. Earthlink?) and a more typical home DSL/cable gateway
device.
I've poked holes in BOTH of these devices on ports 137, 138,

Strange connectivity problem from linux.
Hi I have been facing a strange connectivity problem from CentOS and
Fedora boxes.
When I telnet to
$ telnet adp.eease.com 443
it works fine some times and every 5-10 tries or so it says connection
refused. And this does not happen from my windows box.
Can anyone from this list try this on their linux installation and see
if they get the same behaviour?
Thanks

C6 Bind
Hi All,
I'm really struggling with a bind problem on C6.
bind runs split external and internal dns for a few zones. I had to
change the motherboard in my server and the ethernet device name changed
from eth3 to eth4. I've updated my firewall rules to accommodate that
change but bind in not resolving when accessed externally.
If I telnet to port 53 from outside my LAN I get a

How to make nodes in my local LAN see each other's names
Hello
Sorry for the (I guess) simple question, but:
I have 7 computers under one 8-port router (D-Link DIR-100, firmware
v1.13EU) in my network (actually in a sub-network) and they do not see
each other's host names.
The router has the 'DNS relay' option enabled, and all 7 computers use
the router as the DNS server, which in turn will forward DNS requests to
the ISP DNS server.

Two Subnets on routed to the other, Setup?
Hi there,
I''ve read Routing on One Interface, and Shorewall and Aliased
Interfaces docs but I''m a little confused, and all my test attempts
have mostly failed. Here is my setup:
CentOS 4.2
ShoreWall 3.0.2
My server has a subnet 192.168.50.0/29 routed to it via 192.168.1.2.
Currently 192.168.1.2 is setup on eth0. With no ShoreWall involved
routing seems to work if I just setup

guest access and printer serving
Hello!
I have a Linux box that has a HP LaserJet 5L printer connected to it
and Samba (2.0.3) providing a print service for Win95 clients
connected to the LAN. How can I make Samba NOT ask for a password
whatsoever when a Win95 client connects to the print service?
I also have a printing related problem: when I print something from a
Win95 client it comes out fine, but I always get an extra

Dovecot on CentOS 7
I guess I've been lucky. My Red Hat server I built in 2003 finally gave up
the ghost yesterday. Fifteen years with almost zero problems running
7x24. Now I'm trying to build a basic server to host my e-mail using
CentOS 7, Sendmail and Dovecot. Server is running great as are Sendmail
and Dovecot but Dovecot only allows connections from the CentOS 127.0.0.1.
I can telnet localhost pop3

Weird(?) HTB3 setup
Hi,
I want to be able to specify actions for different classes of
traffic in any of these four ways, and I''d like to use only
HTB if possible:
1. No guranteed rate, No ceil
2. Guaranteed rate, No ceil
3. No guranteed rate, Ceil specified
4. Guaranteed rate, Ceil specified
For types 2, 3 and 4 there can be several classes of each, with
different rates and ceilings.
4 is ofcourse easy.

New on the Web Site
While I''m in temporary retirement, I''ve decided spend a little time
experimenting with new things and making some updates to the web site. The
biggest result of this effort to date has been:
http://shorewall.sf.net/Shorewall_Squid_Usage.html
This outlines how to use Squid as a transparent proxy running on the
firewall, in the DMZ or in the local network. In the latter two

Incoming response and external access
I'm all up for reading and looking round for people in the same boat
to try and solve the issue together, but there appears to not be large
community yet, just the asterisk mail lists.
I got Asterisk working with X-Lite great now for internal calls and
also calling land line numbers etc. The two problems i'm currently
having are:
1. When someone calls in the phones ring 3 times then
