sFTP (client) RPM for CentOS 5.3 (32 bit) and/or putty-tools
I installed gFTP but apparently it does not handle the sFTP protocol. I also installed the FireFTP Add On for the Firefox browser, but when I tried to connect to the server, it says that I need putty-tools. I have the rpmforge and epel repositories configured but yum did not find putty-tools. Is there an RPM for a client program for gFTP or putty-tools? If so, in which repository? TIA! 1443

Should I and can I upgrade GTK+/PyGTK?
I'm trying out different music players. One that looks promising is called Quod Libet: http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet I downloaded the tar file and attempted to install it. I got this message: [dave at localhost quodlibet-0.13.1]$ ./quodlibet.py E: You need GTK+ 2.6 and PyGTK 2.6 or greater. E: You have GTK+ 2.4.13 and PyGTK 2.4.0. E: Please upgrade GTK+/PyGTK. Recommendation for HTML editor
I was playing around with Nvu, and discovered it has serious problems. Mainly that it reformats one's code regardless of whether or not one selects the "Don't reformat code" option. I know there are a few HTML editors out there, so I'm not asking if they exist. What I'm wondering if there are those on this list who may have a recommendation for one they like and why.

YUM error - are repositories down or something?
Following advice on how to ensure that PHP and MySQL are on my machine and working correctly, I ran the following YUM command, with the subsequent error: [root at localhost ~]# yum install php php-mysql httpd mysqlclient10 mysql- server Setting up Install Process Setting up Repos http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (113, 'No route

Are PHP and MySQL running on my CentOS installation?
When I was installing CentOS, I noticed among the list of components that PHP and MySQL were available. I made sure they were selected because I develop a lot of web sites in PHP/MySQL, but I always do my testing on the server side. I thought it would be kind of cool if I could do the testing and development on my home machine. Which is a long way of saying that I think I have PHP/MySQL on my

Are these steps for re-installing Gnome correct/safe?
My desktop environment has become a little chaotic, and, long story short, I would like to uninstall KDE and Gnome, and then reinstall Gnome. (I want to remove KDE for the time being because I just don't think I want it taking up space on my hard drive). The thing is, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. For instance, I want to make sure I don't lose settings in

Just can't get sound working in Firefox
I have been all up and down my Firefox options, and all up and down whatever sound card configurations I could find in Gnome. And I just can't get sound to work. Whether it's a Flash animation, a Quicktime movie, or anything, they all run, but no sound. All other applications that run sound, like Xine or XMMS, work fine (although mysteriously XMMS every now and again loses it's

SD Card Reader not being recognized
I have a USB card reader that handles various card media, like SD cards, Sony Memory Sticks, and two other formats that I can't even remember what they are. I pretty much exclusively use it for SD cards. With Fedora, when I plugged the card reader into the USB port, and then inserted an SD card, it would automatically come up on the desk top. However, this is not the case with CentOS.

I've lost control of Gnome
I tried out KDE for a while, but eventually found that it was not to my liking. I've switched back to Gnome, but it seems to me that options I used to have in the panel aren't available anymore. I'm not totally sure, but isn't there supposed to be some sort of Gnome (Nautilus?) control center? A place where I can adjust the themes, screen savers, and that sort of thing? I

Anyone running giFTui successfully on CentOS?
I've been hunting this down on the internet, but haven't had any success, so I'm going to ask here. Does anyone on this list know anything about giFTui? I've tried running it, but get this error: giftui: error while loading shared libraries: liblinc.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I can not determine how to get this shared library on my system.

gtkpod
High and low searching (google, most of the repos in http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories) availed nothing - has anyone found a repo for gtkpod on centos-6? I seem to recall having to use fedora packages at some time in the past. Bit loath to do that again or compile from source. Thanks Bob

ssh key problem
Hi I've need to reinstall my asterisk software (hard drive failure). I'm back and running to a make samples state. I have backed up all of my conf files (ok so they were about a week old but much better than starting from scratch), the problem I am having is with WS_FTP Pro. Basically I used to connect to my asterisk server using this software no problems just using root as

Safe to use gstreamer repository for RH or Fedora?
I'd like to install "Gstreamer" so that I can get MP3 support in Rhythmbox. At least, I'm led to believe MP3 support comes with installing Gstreamer from Rhythmbox's FAQ. But when I get to the Gstreamer download page: http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/download/ ... it says: "Do not compile from source yourself unless you are certain you have to or want to" Okay,

Lost my menu options again - KDE messes with Gnome?
This was a problem I had a while back. I lost the "Preferences" menu item in my "Applications" menu in Gnome. After much discussion, the following commands got my "Preferences" menu item back, along with all the applications inside of it: rpm -e redhat-artwork redhat-menus --nodeps --allmatches yum install redhat-artwork redhat-menus But... gftp crashing on IPv6 to vsftp
I am running vsftp pretty much 'out of the box', though I turned off IPv4 and have it listening on IPv6. I have stopped ip6tables, as the simple rule to enable port 21 is not allowing gftp to connect (pasv mode, I think). gftp to the IPv6 address, it connects and gets a directory listing. I am running gftp from my normal login userid, connecting to my normal login userid on the
