Sound Quality
Hi All,
I've just setup a test Asterisk system that allows incoming/outgoing calls via
an ISDN card (l4i) and incoming/outgoing calls via SIP (iconnecthere). I have
two SIP Softphones (Xten X-Lite) for making and receiving calls.
When receiving an incoming call via the ISDN interface the sound quality is
fine for the Softphone user (i can hear the caller perfectly), but the person

Asterisk 1.0.5-BRIstuffed-0.2.0-RC5 crashes with Ouch ... error while writing audio data: : Broken pipe
I have Asterisk 1.0.5-BRIstuffed-0.2.0-RC5 up and running. Everything
seems to be running fine but after some time asterisk just goes crazy
(even withouth any incoming or outgoing call activity perviously).
If I leave the box up for some time * goes haywire and the console is
flooded with this message:
Ouch ... error while writing audio data: : Broken pipe
At that time I can see that there

I don't understand that reaction to packaging. mplayer uses a variety
of libraries to support a large variety of media types. It doesn't
include servers or SUID binaries, so it doesn't carry a significant
security risk, and

mpg123 issue and solution
All,
I've been setting up an Asterisk PBX over the past few days and I stumbled
across a problem with mpg123 that I have not seen documented anywhere.
If you put mp3 files into your mohmp3 directory and these files have ID3v2
tags, mpg123 will throw an error message "Found new ID3 Header",
regardless of the -q flag.
This, in turn, will cause Asterisk to crash (yes), although

MP3 streams for MOH: idea

I have run out of time for fooling around today, but I started to
think about this one but have no time (or ability) to build this
little glue program.

mp3 playback (mpg123)
Hi All,
First of all a quick thanks to everyone that has provided me
with hints and tips over the past few days.
I'm still experiencing problems with the playback of MP3s. The
MP3 files will playback but they suffer from "stuttering". mpg123
is installed and plays back the file without problem via the
desktop speakers. (It is definitely mpg123 installed, and not
mpg321)

Alternate MP3 Player
Hi! I am currently working on setting up an Asterisk system, and I was
wondering if anyone has worked on an alternate mp3 player to mpg123.
We have a library of MP3 files that we would like people to be able to select
and play over the phone -- and this will require pause & resume, as well
as fast forward / reverse (jump forward / jump back). It doesn't seem like
mpg123 can do this. Is

reliable mp3 NON X player for streams
Hi there,
I'm urgently searching for a bulletproof NON-X mp3 player for high bit
rates that can be remotely controlled - if possible. (Server-Client?!)
Right now I'm using mpg123 and this program not always starts flawlessly
with streams.
All ideas are appreciated.

music on hold help
I've only gotten to hear Music On Hold once.
I am running the right version of mpg123 .059r as
downloaded from mpg123.de and compiled locally
So I'm looking for any help on getting this up and
running.
I can see on the console that the SIP phone is placing
the call on hold, but there is no audio coming out
on the other phone.
Mucho, thanks

reencoding mp3 as vorbis live
What I want to do is put up an icecast 2 server streaming vorbis, but
the original live stream is mp3. It seems that I want to do something
like this (with all the options left out for clarity):
mpg123 | lame | something
where the "something" is some command that sends the bits to icecast
like ices. Does such a thing exist for ogg/vorbis? Is there a better
way to do this?

MOH failures (bad quality with interruptions)
Hi ! :)
Does someone have an idea of the reason why my MusicOnHold (with clean
mp3 downloaded from http://aussievoip.com.au/wiki-MOH) is always
having interruptions and micro-cuts ?
No high load of the system, no swap, no hard disk r/w, mpg123 seems
running well... nothing !
Except a little message at startup :
"Warning, flexibel rate not heavily tested!"

Music on hold quality..
Hi,
Does any one have any pointers on improving moh quality??
Symptoms are crackling and hissing as the sound comes and goes..
I installed mpg123 this morning..
I have tried various MP3's sampled at 160k, 128k, 32k and 8k and they all sounded terrible... The PC is a P4 so its got plenty of processing power.. I have tried a few different types of classical music (Piano, Violin and full

MP3 decoding, fading and streaming at the same time
Hi There,
I have just ported to Linux a program that I wrote years ago in Prolog
under DOS to automate our Shortwave radio station. Back in 1990 the
original program used ADPCM coded audio files and a special board. Now I
can use MP3 files and a Soundblaster compatible card ;-) under Linux, and
it runs from a console without any fancy interface. I absolutely need to

combined mp3 and vorbis stream
Jake,
You could decode the compressed audio to raw audio, pipe it into the ice system and have it "re-encode" to a consistent bitrate and format (Vorbis/MP3). If there's nothing with the Ice software that's this versatile, you'll have to write a small shell script, which does something like calls ogg123/mpg123 and outputs decoded audio.
Now I mention this as potentially

off topic: info on mp3 files
hi,
this is way off topic, but maybe someone can help...
i'm looking for a script or prog that gives me info
on a mp3-file, like what mpg123 shows when starting up
plus some tech details like size, time, frequency etc.
i've tried perl-MP3-Info, but it doesn't know about
album, title, artist etc.
i want to use it for fetching as much info as possible
from a file into a database. any

Compiling mpg123 under 1.2.9.1 / Ubuntu 6.06
Hi,
I made the mistake of upgrading both my Linux box (to Ubuntu 6.06) and
Asterisk (to 1.2.9.1) at the same time. Now, when trying to compile
mpg123 - using the tried and true "make mpg123" -, the build fails with
an error
make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/asterisk-1.2.9.1/mpg123-0.59r'

Native mp3 playback winemp3.acm/l3codeca.acm regression?
Two issues.
1. Probable regression in Wine v1.2.2 and 1.2.3 (v 1.2 ok):
- ACM / native WMP playback not working.
Tried to upgrade to 1.2.3, then 1.2.2 and they both cause the player (1by1) to hang, nothing written to console.
Revert back to v1.2 and acm works fine again.
2. Bug in Wine v1.3.x:
- ACM / native WMP playback (using libmpg123) elapsed track time advances too quickly (nearly two
