A couple of CentOS 5.1 issues
I've finally made the switch to CentOS 5.1 (I had been running 4.6).
So far, so good, but I do have a few issues.
First, I can not find kermit (or ckermit) in any of the repos (base,
extras, centosplus, rpmforge). On my 4.6 systems, /usr/bin/kermit
was provided by the package ckermit in the base repo. That package
appears to be no longer available. Any ideas where I could find a

Backspace key is sending Delete after update to 4.4 (tcsh issue?)
Maybe it was always sending Delete and I didn't notice it, but I have
had the following in my .tcshrc file for ages (without realizing it):
bindkey -b ^? i-search-back
Before the update to 4.4, hitting the backspace key at the shell
prompt deleted the previous character. Now it activates the search
backwards function as instructed to do so by the bindkey directive.

Waking up X
I just finished installing CentOS 5 (again)... and I'm having trouble
with my X config (I _think_).
If I 'startx' then switch to a console (using CTRL+ALT+F*) and then
back to X (CTRL+ALT+F7), 1/2 the time it comes back, the other half I
get a black screen and I can never recover the session.
X is still running (CTRL+ALT+Backspace kills it) but there seems to be
some type of power

[ANNOUNCE] xkill 1.0.3
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
xkill is a utility for forcing the X server to close connections to
clients. This program is very dangerous, but is useful for aborting
programs that have displayed undesired windows on a user's screen.
This minor maintenance release provides some hopefully very non-dangerous
build configuration improvements and janitorial cleanups.

immediate "gotcha" in compilation!? 6.6p1 versus openssl 1.0.1g
So they released openssl 101g to patch for a hole. One then wishes to
recompile openssh.
After ".configure" I get this:

rsync 2.6.2 appears to hang
I've had a long-standing problem syncing my home directory from one
Linux system (RH Linux 7.3) to another (RH Linux 9). I am now
running rsync version 2.6.2 on both ends. I use ssh as the data
transport. The two machines are separated by a VPN over the
Internet.
What happens is that the sending rsync just appears to hang. The
receiving rsync processes are no longer running when I go

Key Mappings & Mouse Question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hello all.
I am wondering if Wine can set up alternate key mappings with
individual games? I have one game that seems to have some questionable
behavior when it comes to backspace, and I want to see if I can fix with
a different binding.
My mouse is also having some major trouble in the same game. It do not
respond correctly, making the game

removing daylight savings in R
Hi all,
I've been having some trouble with times in regards to daylight savings in R
version 2.8.1. I have an ORACLE database that R is importing data in from,
for the 2am and 2:30am time intervals for the dates that daylight savings
starts the times are getting read as NA values into R. I'm also finding that
if I open a R workspace from version 6.2.2,the datetimes are

Photoshop leaving toolboxes behind
Hi,
I was going to file a bug report for this, but I thought I'd check here
first, because I'm not sure if this is a wine bug, or something to do
with Photoshop or Compiz.
Most times when I close Photoshop CS2, I'm getting the one or more of
the tool pallets left behind on my desktop. I have found no way to get
rid of them - apart from restarting the X server. I tried xkill but it

R Novice Question
Please forgive the relative lack of sophistication here -- I'm trying to
learn R, remove the rust from my basic training in statistics, AND produce
a useful result.
I have two vectors of equal length, A and B, with a one-to-one
correspondence between the elements (ie. A[i] corresponds to B[i]) which
are provided by an SQL server upon which I can run any SQL statement.

Help me make the ongame poker client work again !
Hi guys,
A while ago, I submitted this test
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20468
stating the ongame poker client worked almost flawlessly with wine.
I stopped playing for a while, and redownloaded it today from
https://www.unibet.fr/sps/poker/telecharger
I can't get it to run anymore. I've winetricked vcrun2008 and wininet.
Installation still works fine.

Vim - In INSERT Mode, the Backspace key does not work
Hi All,
I'm not very good with Vim.
I noticed when it is in INSERT Mode, the backspace key no longer works.
How to do I configure it so that it will work with the backspace key?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Virtualized desktop
Hi,
I'm looking to renew my hardware and I'm wondering how Linux can help
me to virtualize my desktop environment.
My first go was to have 2 Intel NUC and 2 screens, one NUC more stable
and one I can play with. I want to use both screens with both
computers so this implies to also have two KVMs.
Then came the idea to virtualize everything. Make both computers a
