CADFtest difference between max.lag.y with criterion and without criterion
Dear Professor Bernhard, Sorry for take your time, but I found something strange that I am not able to explain/understand. Suppose that I compute the ADF test by using the criterion="BIC" to select the lags: summary(CADFtest(y, max.lag.y = 20, type = "drift", criterion="BIC")) Suppose that 2 lags are selected. Next, if I set the lags to 2: summary(CADFtest(y,

apply problem
Dear R-Help I am running apply on a data.frame containing factors and numeric columns. It appears to convert are columns into as.character? Does it convert data.frame into matrix? Is this expected? I wish it to recognise numerical columns and round numbers. Can I use another function instead of apply, or should I use a for loop in the case? > summary(xmat) A B

"order" issue
Hi everybody, this is a real dummy thing. I sorted a matrix based on a given column, and what I get is right, until it comes to columns of negative and positive values; than, "order" orders everything from max to min in the negative values, and then AGAIN from max to min in the positive values!!! Why isn't everything order from max to min, and that's it? Thank you!!! Attached

Difficulties in trying to do a mixed effects model using the lmer function
Dear people of the help list I am drying to analyze my data using the 'lmer' function and I keep having problems. This is the model: > fm1<-lmer(dbh~spec+scheme+(1|Plot),data=d, REML=FALSE). I analyse tree size (dbh) of 3 different species (spec) and 3 planting schemes (scheme). I have 5 plots, which I hope to model as a random factor. (However, the subsequent output is based on

I am also having problems receiving my first fax. I get a 320byte file (for a 4 page fax). If I look a the tiff generated, is just has some few dots. R 'arima' discrepancies
Rob J Hyndman gives great explanation here (https://robjhyndman.com/hyndsight/estimation/) for reasons why results from R's arima may differ from other softwares. @iacobus, to cite one, 'Major discrepancies between R and Stata for ARIMA' (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22443395/major-discrepancies-between-r-and-stata-for-arima), assign the, sometimes, big diferences from R

Alternate ways of finding number of occurrence of an element in a vector.
Hi, I have a vector "v" and would like to find the number of occurrence of element "x" in the same. Is there a way other than, sum(as.integer(v==x)) or length(which(x==v)) to do the this. I have a huge file to process and do this. Both the above described methods are pretty slow while dealing with a large vector. Please have your comments. Praveen

Getting vastly different results when running GLMs
Dear R gurus I am analysing data from a study of behaviour and shade utilization of chimpanzees. I am using GLMs in R (version 2.13.0) to test whether shade/sun utilization is predicted by behaviour observed. I am thus interested in whether an interaction of behaviour (as a predictor) and presence in the sun/shade (also predictor) predicts the counts I have for the respective categories. I have

question on xyplot
Dear All: In the attached file, I have 3 group patients, and there are 5 in each group (the groups are decided by the prefix of the idno). I want draw a repeat measurement comparison figure. My goal is to list 5 patients from same group on one horizontal line. But xyplot sounds pick them randomly (or I was confused?). Could you please help me modify the following code to accomplish this?

Winbind traffic not encrypted
A problem here getting winbind traffic to be encrypted using Kerberos. I have set up a test environment with a pair of servers (actually lxc containers): - samba server (ubuntu 16.04, stock samba 4.3.11) - client machine (ubuntu 16.04) joined with "net ads join" and winbind The client machine has the following in /etc/samba/smb.conf: ------- [global] #netbios name = client-ad
