Suggestion: SSHD pseudo/fake mode. Source available.
Hi,
SSH brute force attacks seem to enjoy increasing popularity. Call me an
optimist or a misrouted kind of contributer to the community, but on our
company server I actually go through the logs and report extreme cases
to the providers of the originating IP's. With the increasing number of
these attacks, however, I have now decided that it's better to move the
SSHd to a different

About rsync over SSH and compression
Rsync supports the capability of compressing data before sending. So does
OpenSSH. It would be probably be a waste of resources and time to enable
both compression capabilities at the same time, but it is not clear to me
whether, in general, it makes better sense to enable rsync compression or
SSH compression.
My first thought would be that SSH compression might yield better results,

Coding help : Where to log X11 forwards?
OpenSSH 5.1p1
I can't grasp why, when connecting with 'ssh -Y' to this
test host, I am not tickling the verbose() call below that
I have added.
I am logging as auth + verbose in sshd_config
The X11 forward for the session works fine as tested with
xterm.
At any rate, I am looking for some guidance on where
to log X11 forwards that are established, ideally with
a username and remote

Idea: reverse socks proxy
Hi,
Just a usecase that I'm sure has been covered before but just in case
its not an openssh solution would be very helpful.
I was trying to install software on a server that was firewalled so no
outbound http connections would work. I was also tunnelling via
another server. Outbound ssh connections also were a convenient option.
What would have been nice would be a remote version of

[patch] ignore SSH2_MSG_IGNORE packets
Hi,
protocolkeepalives sends ssh_msg_ignore, which the ssh2 server handles
incorrectly (i.e. it produces some output to syslog, instead of
ignoring the packet):
Jul 9 11:58:07 ren sshd[16580]: error: Hm, dispatch protocol error:
type 32 plen 4
This patch implements a highly advanced function to ignore these
packets ;)

Exiting ssh when MaxSessions=0
Hi,
I've been experimenting with MaxSessions=0 in the sshd_config and have
encountered one unfortunate problem. Once the client authenticates to
the server, it ceases to respond to keyboard input.
At first glance, it looks like the client is in a hung state and does
not time out. If port forwarding was requested on the command-line and
the server accepts the request, that continues to work.

[PATCH] Add a chroot_users option to sshd
This patch adds a new option to sshd, chroot_users. It has the effect of
chroot()ing incoming ssh users to their home directory. Note: this option
does not work if UsePrivilegeSeparation is enabled.
Patch is based on OpenSSH 3.4p1.

remote vs local window discrepancy
I am utilizing an openssh tunnel between two Linux boxes. On the client
box I issue the following commands to set up the tunnel;
- ssh -w0:0 root at x.x.x.x -v where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the Linux
system running sshd
- ip addr add 10.0.5.1/32 peer 10.0.5.2 dev tun0
- ip link set tun0 up
On the box running sshd I issue the following commands:
- ip addr add 10.0.5.2/32 peer 10.0.5.1 dev

X11forwarding yes: how to debug/setup after xauth fix
I do not often use X11 - but when I do I prefer to enable X11forwarding,
and when finished - turn it off. This is preferable, imho, to having
"clear" X11 processing when local - and otherwise impossible when
working remote.
Working with openssh-7.5p2 I cannot figure out what (extra) I need to do
with sshd_config to get it working.
I know that there is a security-fix starting with

Security suggestion concering SSH and port forwarding.
Hi,
sorry if it is the wrong approuch to suggest improvments to OpenSSH,
but here comes my suggestion:
I recently stumbled upon the scponly shell which in it's chroot:ed form is
an ideal solution when you want to share some files with people you trust
more or less.
The problem is, if you use the scponlyc as shell, port forwarding is still
allowed. This can of course be dissallowed in

FTP Port Forwarding & SSH2_MSG_CHANNEL_DATA question
Hi,
I'm currently working on an FTP utility which contains
SSH2/Port Forwarding functionality. I'm having a problem with
receiving large amounts of data. When I open my forwarding
channel, I give it a Window Size, say about 10K. When I try
to download a file through the forwarded FTP channel, the
SSH2 server (VShell in this case) is only sending over 10K.
Apparently the server will only

updated gssapi diff
this is the proposed gssapi diff against OpenSSH-current (non-portable).
note: if this goes in, the old krb5 auth (ssh.com compatible) will be
removed.

Idletimeout patch, third attempt
Here is my third attempt at the idletimeout patch. I tried to address
the points which Marcus Friedl brought up.
It is actually bigger than the previous patches, but not as intrusive.
It is big because it moves some stuff from serverloop.c to packet.c.
- I moved all the logic to packet.c. This means that I also had to move
the actual select() call, which used to be in serverloop.c to packet.c.

OS/390 openssh
Hello Steve, Hello OpenSSH-portable developers,
I am building OpenSSH for our (EBCDIC-based) BS2000 mainframe
operating system, and I noticed you do the same for OS/390.
Because my initial ssh port was based on IBM's OSS port (ssh-1.2.2
or some such), I thought it was fair enough to help with a little
co-operation; we might come up with a unified EBCDIC patch which could
be contributed to

Mou - Markdown editor for web developers
Hi all,
I made a new markdown editor for Mac, named Mou
- http://mouapp.com
It's still in early beta stage. Requires OS X 10.7+ to run.
Let me know how do you think about it. :)
Kudos to John Gruber who invented Markdown language, as always!
:)
