openssh PTY allocation
We recently upgraded to openss 5.8p2 from a somewhat older version.
This broke openssh login to ScreenOS devices. These devices don't
support PTY allocation. Apparently, ssh now reacts to PTY allocation
failure by failing the login. This is a change from the previous
behavior. The simple workaround is ssh -T $device.
I see in the ChangeLog that some device would hang with PTY allocation

[PATCH] supporting a remote scp path option in scp
Hi there,
I've written some enhancements to scp.c and pathnames.h to enable the scp
to arbitrarily set the remote scp path.
(eg $ scp -e /usr/bin/scp foo user at bar:foo)
I did read the "scp: command not found" FAQ entry but I'm not quite sure
why we can't do this, unless it's because enhancements to scp are no
longer a priority. Any other reason why it "is the

BUG: scp -q isn't quiet
If I scp from/to a server that has a banner using scp -q, it still
shows the banner. If I ssh -q to the same server, the banner is
skipped. scp -o "LogLevel quiet" does the trick, but is excessively
cumbersome.

Erase the source file open; specify a tempfile name option
I'm curious how to go about submitting a suggestion that affects both
the original BSD version and the portable release. A few days ago I
sent off a BSD-relative patch to openssh at openssh.com. Is this the right
thing to do? I didn't hear anything back, but it's only been 3 days, so
I'm probably just being too antsy.
In the meantime, maybe someone else out there would like to

program-prefix does not work
the configure option --program-prefix does not work although it is
listed in teh configure --help output.
The attached patch fixes these issues:
1) program prefix is not substituted in configure
2) program prefix is not present in Makefile
3) scp requires use of a known "scp" program

patch for password expiration under Solaris?
I'm looking to move some Solaris 2.6 and 7 machines to openssh.
Showstopper bug: openssh (up to 3.1p1) doesn't seem to correctly
implement expired passwords.
Looking back through the archive, it looks like Dave Dykstra submitted
a patch for this problem relative to an older version of openssh at
least as early as last August:

[PATCH]: scp program improved
Hi,
I have made a patch which improves scp utility. It adds two new features:
rate limit and resume support. With rate limit it's possible to limit
transfer speed. Resume allows to continue file transfer where it was last
interrupted. Also the progress meter was improved.
Here is my patch, please send comments about it and what I can do better
if there is something to fix.

scp patch to delete source files after copy
At work we have a large collection of scripts to move log
and config files around. These depend on commercial (F-Secure)
ssh/scp, as it supports the -u option to delete the source file
after (successful) copying. That is the sole reason we can't
run openssh on our 150+ unix boxes.
I have attached a patch below, which adds the -u option to
delete the source file after copying, provided there

scp remote path specification
Hello,
in order to use "scp", the scp binary has to be in the compile-time
default path on the remote host. For some users (like root), we try to
avoid this since scp may be on a network file system (AFS/NFS), and we
don't want to hang root's session on network outages.
Would a patch to scp be acceptable in the main tree that allows to set
the path to remote scp explicity,

Need Help to Fix CVE-2008-1483, CVE-2008-5161, CVE-2015-5600 and CVE-2015-6565
Hi Gert,
Thanks for your reply.
But we can't upgrade to 7.2 version also we don't have plan to upgrade in
near future. Can I fix these vulnerabilities in the current version?
Regards
Abhishek

OL8 (RHEL8), ssh-rsa turned off using update-crypto-policies, receiving an openssh error that I don't seem to be able to override in my personal .ssh/config file
using "update-crypt-policies --set DEFAULT" allows the connectivity to work
again. setting that but then setting -ssh-rsa... in /etc/ssh/ssh_config
breaks it again. setting my personal .ssh/config file to +ssh-rsa... keeps
it still broken. so I guess my personal .ssh/config file is only used when
something isn't explicitly set in system wide crypto policies or the system

Thank you for the feedback. Can you give any further direction on where to

Disconnecting: Corrupted check bytes on input.
Hi,
just "cvs update"'d to get the latest portable version, to start
rebuilding our AIX systems to get zlib-1.1.4 and the channel-bug fix.
SSH protocol 2 seems to work nicely, ssh protocol 1 doesn't work properly.
Environment: AIX 4.3.3, openssl 0.9.6c, openssh as of today (Mar 12, 11:20
GMT).
Client/blowfish, to openssh 3.0p1 or to 2.5.1p1:

(yet-unknown) server key, but just checking all possible locations, not
finding the key, and giving up.
I have seen a similar effect on a system that had a /dev/tty entry that
was not world-writeable (thus the ssh client couldn't open it to ask for
a confirmation).
The effect will also happen if you have "StrictHostKeyChecking yes" in
ssh_config - set that to "ask",

bug in sshd.d (destroy_sensitive_data core dumps)
Hi,
experimenting with openssh_cvs on my SCO Unix 3.2v4.2 machine, I had
sshd core dumping on me.
Tracking this, I found that if a host key is specified in the sshd_config
that does not exist (I used "./sshd -d -d -d -f sshd_config" with the
shipped sshd_config file, to work around incompatibilities with the
installed sshd.com's sshd_config, and I do not have ssh2 host keys on

Makefile dependencies
Hi,
the openssh_cvs Makefile includes the following rules:
$(LIBSSH_OBJS): config.h
$(LIBOPENBSD_COMPAT_OBJS): config.h
but no equivalent for $(LIBSSHD_OBJS) - is this desired or an oversigt?
In my case, I built the sshd, tested it, reconfigured with SKEY support,
rebuilt (just running "make", no "make clean"), and tracked down the
non-working s/key for a while before I
