patch for password expiration under Solaris?
I'm looking to move some Solaris 2.6 and 7 machines to openssh.
Showstopper bug: openssh (up to 3.1p1) doesn't seem to correctly
implement expired passwords.
Looking back through the archive, it looks like Dave Dykstra submitted
a patch for this problem relative to an older version of openssh at
least as early as last August:

BUG: scp -q isn't quiet
If I scp from/to a server that has a banner using scp -q, it still
shows the banner. If I ssh -q to the same server, the banner is
skipped. scp -o "LogLevel quiet" does the trick, but is excessively
cumbersome.

--with-pam and expired passwords
First off, thanks for the --with-pam fix that lets users with expired
passwords change their passwords. It's wonderful, and has finally
allowed us to migrate to openssh after a couple of years.
Problem: after openssh allows a user with an expired password to log
in, said user does not have any X11 and agent forwardings that have
been set up. This can be a support issue for naive users who

make buildworld fails when upgrading to 4.8 stable : SUITE
OK, It works if I modify my make.conf to not build openss[lh] like it :
#MAKE_KERBEROS5= yes
# TEST
NO_OPENSSH= true # do not build OpenSSH
NO_OPENSSL= true # do not build OpenSSL (implies NO_OPENSSH)
Maybe I install openss[hl] as ports after... But I'm not satisfied with
this way...

Failed password
Hi,
If there is a place to post this, please advise, but I am stuck. I have
recently installed openssh-1.2.3
on a Red Hat 6.1 installation. Everything compile ok but I don't get no
password auththenticcation.
So I recompiled openssh-1.2.3 without PAM support and it still does not
work. I can log into
the system otherwise (shadow password is enabled).
Here is what I have in my

Call for testing: OpenSSH-5.9
Hi,
OpenSSH 5.9 is almost ready for release, so we would appreciate testing
on as many platforms and systems as possible. This release contains a
couple of new features and changes and bug fixes. Testing of the new
sandboxed privilege separation mode (see below) would be particularly
appreciated.
Snapshot releases for portable OpenSSH are available from

Hung ssh client connection
Hi guys,
I am running with: "OpenSSH_3.9p1 Debian-1ubuntu2, OpenSSL 0.9.7e 25 Oct
2004", as an ssh client, and am having some strange behaviour with a
firewall of ours.
We have a netscreen 5gt-plus, running ScreenOS 5.0.2, which has an ssh
daemon running.
I ssh to the firewall using `ssh username@<ip address>`, which works
correctly (ie, connects, and I can use the console of

PTY allocation?
I'm running a 5.0p1 derivative SSH server (that for various reasons I
can not upgrade), on a host system that does not support PTYs.
Attempts to connect to that sshd via sftp are failing due to an
inability to allocate a pty. I can't really see a reason that an sftp
session requires a pty. Is this addressed in later versions? Should

Hi all,
Is there a straightforward way to enable the none cipher for v1 and v2 in the
server?
Please include my email address in your reply, as I'm not subscribed to this

I discovered an issue in the latest version of SSH, where the number of password prompts are doubled. If I specify 1, I get 2, and so on.

Need to build openssh rpm from 5.8 source
Hello Openssh group,
I have downloaded the .tar.gz file from openssh site openssh-5.8p2. I need
to build this src into an rpm. I don?t see any makefile utility in the
main directory. Although there are bunch of .c and .h files. And I see
Makefile in other directory, but none seems to build the openssh-5.8p2
target.
Could someone guide me as to how to build it from scratch.

confusion over RSAref vul w/OpenSS[HL]
Howdy,
The string of notices on BugTraq about RSAref being vulnerable to
overflows has me concerned. After trying to sort through all the
messages, I can't figure out whether I need to update OpenSSL (a
check of their website indicates no new patches), OpenSSH, both, or
neither. I am aware there is no known exploit for it yet.
I could be a bad boy and just run all

Fwd: Libvirt-QEMU : Multiplex the output from qemu's serial port to a pty as well as a file (basically redirect console to file as well as pty device)
+dev
Hi Folks ,
As per https://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementsConsole
Regardless of the type, character devices can have an optional log file
associated with them.
Whether the lgging functionality is same as mapping device to file ?
Whether libvirt xml syntax below both 1 and 2 are same ?
