Thorough distributed backup/sync strategy
Does anyone have a good distributed backup strategy? I've been revising
mine for a year or so now and always realize there's some hole or
another in it. I get the feeling to do it exactly the way I want it
needs to be complex, but I'm looking for something elegant.
My data consists of some of these representative folders:
.mozilla
Documents

known_hosts and multiple hosts through a NAT router
The .ssh/known_hosts table cannot handle reaching different sshd
servers behind a NAT router. The machines are selected by having
the SSHDs respond to differnt ports.
A second request would be to allow known_hosts checking solely on
the dns name, wildcarding the IP address. This would be useful
to avoid continuously warning the user every time you connect
to a machine with a changing IP address

[patch] known hosts with ports
Hello. We are currently installing a new firewall, and would like to use a
mixture of NAT and port mapping to have a single "gateway" host address
which exposes a range of open ports, each of which maps to sshd of a
different host in our internal network (e.g. ssh.jesus.cam.ac.uk on port
6789 maps to internal host1 port 22 whereas ssh.jesus.cam.ac.uk on port 6790
maps to internal

does somebody use XCode on Mac for RoR instead of TextMate?
does somebody use XCode on Mac for RoR instead of TextMate? I wonder
how is it compared to TextMate... TextMate uses the default font of
Monaco... the Xcode screenshot on Wikipedia uses Courier... I wonder if
Xcode looks as good as TextMate when the font is changed to Monaco as
well? Thank you.

Objetos al abrir la sesión de R
Hola
Saludos

[Feature Request] Add (and check against) IP to known_hosts even when domain is used to connect
Hello Bob and thank you for your reply,
first of all I hope that I'm answering in the right way since I had
enabled the daily digest and I'm not sure if it's the right way to use
Thunderbirds "Reply List" feature on this digest. If it's wrong this way
I apologize. I turned of the daily digest so my next messages should be
correct.

OpenSSH Key Storage
I have had a brief discussion with Damien Miller (below) about storing
host port values in the known_hosts file so as to track multiple ssh
sessions (with independant keys) that run on a single host but accept
connections on different ports. If it were possible to state that a
given key for a remote host belonged to that host's ssh session on port
23 and that another key belonged to that

Degeneration of CPU Performance
Hello everybody!
We have a interesting issue about dovecot behavior here. First, the
scenario:
We have 2 server running with the same load, one with our old pop3
solution (out of date) and other with Dovecot. We realized that dovecot
are comsuming more CPU, and this consumption is growing day by day. When
we starts dovecot, it runs between 40%-45% of CPU consumption and our

host_key and fingerprint problem with protocol 2
Hi all,
I just want to upgrade from protocol 1.5 to 1.99 and 2.0, respectively and run into the following problems:
The situation is the following:
I have a client ("c") inside the firewall and two servers outside ("a" and "b"). The firewall accepts connections on two ports (22136 and 22137) and directs the connections directly to port 22 of the two servers

Host verification problem
Hi,
I have a problem with the host verification of ssh in several
networks of the same structure:
In all cases there is a router or a firewall with an official
IP address, making the ssh-ports of several hosts with
RFC1918-addresses available through NAT or TCP forwarding.
Thus, different hosts appear on the same IP address, just with
different ports.
Since SSH uses the IP address but not

Goodbye Windows?
Hi.
I know that Linux provides most of the softwares we need for business, equivalent of Outlook, MS Office, IE, ... but :
Is it realistic to think that we can delete Win XP, and use Wine with Linux, for a professional use, with :
- All Adobe, with the ICC profiles (I use Monaco EZcolor for the calibration).
- CMS like Joomla and a lot of plugs-in, and a few tools for webranking.
I hope the

scp with different users
This may be a dumb question, but is there any reason why
scp a at b:c d:
fails, where
scp a at b:c .
scp c d:
succeeds?
I get "Host key verification failed.". I'm using nothing more complex
than RSA authorized_hosts based authentication.
I'm seeing this on openssh-client 1:5.8p1-1ubuntu3 and
OS-X 10.6 OpenSSH_5.2p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8r 8 Feb 2011.

ssh-3.5p1 core dumps on Solaris 2.6
Hi,
I've reported this problem a month ago on this list, and probably no-one
is interested? Binaries were configured with krb4 and afs enabled.
However, only the second crash seems to be related to krb4.
Any thoughts?
I had to add one line to includes.h:
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <sys/socket.h>
#include <sys/ioctl.h>
+#include <sys/ioccom.h>
#include
