Sending SSH_MSG_DISCONNECT before dropping connections
Hi. >From my understanding the MaxStartups option can be set to limit the number of concurrent sessions the OpenSSH server opens. My concern is how OpenSSH handles the case where this number is reached. >From the code it looks like it simply closes the socket: sshd.c:1440 if (drop_connection(startups) == 1) { debug("drop connection #%d", startups); close(newsock);

ssh exit mechanism!
To whomsoever it may concern, I use putty-0.51 as ssh client on windows and openssh-2.9p2 implementation on RedHat 7.0 Linux as ssh server. For the client to exit, I expected ssh client to send SSH_CMSG_EOF to the server and the server respond with SSH_CMSG_EXITSTATUS and finally close the connection when the client sends SSH_CMSG_EXIT_CONFIRMATION. This will effectively end the server_loop in

Protocol 2 remote forwarding patch
Hi ! Here's a patch to add remote port forwarding support (protocol 2) for openssh. I have tried to test that it works like it should but a more thorough testing is needed. This patch adds both client/server support. The patch should be applied to openssh-2.1.1p4 source tree. Also included is a PortForwarding sshd_config option, new ./configure option --disable-forwarding that should make it

Idea: reverse socks proxy
Hi, Just a usecase that I'm sure has been covered before but just in case its not an openssh solution would be very helpful. I was trying to install software on a server that was firewalled so no outbound http connections would work. I was also tunnelling via another server. Outbound ssh connections also were a convenient option. What would have been nice would be a remote version of

SEGV on FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE with 2.6.2
I'm getting a SEGV on a FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE box. The client is Solaris 9/SPARC. Both boxes run 2.6.2. The command I'm running is: $ rsync -arHRv --numeric-ids --delete --exclude=/opt/dist/cdrom \ [paths] [server]:[path] If I whittle down what appears in [paths], then it works. $ gdb rsync rsync.core gdb> bt #0 0x280faf0d in strncmp () from /usr/lib/libc.so.4 #1 0x7 in ?? Timing out a channel exec request
Is anyone aware of a method to force termination of a single channel without waiting for the associated process to complete? I have a use case where my client submits several commands to be executed over the same session at the same time on separate channels. In some cases (cough df), one or more those commands may hang indefinitely. I detect that the command is not finishing in a reasonable

Requiring multiple auth mechanisms
I looked around for a while, but couldn't find any code for requiring multiple authentication mechanisms in openssh. So I wrote an implemention. I thought at first I should change the PasswordAuthentication, PubkeyAuthentication, etc. keywords to allow no/yes/required. But there's some funky stuff in auth2.c with respect to keyboard interactive auth that would make this kind of

logistic regression
Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this turns out to be more a statistical question than one specifically about R - but would greatly appreciate your advice anyway. I've been using a logistic regression model to look at the relationship between a binary outcome (say, the odds of picking n white balls from a bag containing m balls in total) and a variety of other binary parameters:

openssh-2.3.0p1 (Linux) fails using options with dss key
I'm trying to change my local setup from ssh2 to openssh-2.3.0p1. I need captive comands and specific environments for each key, i.e. the "command=XXX" and "environment=X=y" options. Unfortunately I *also* need to support the existing ssh2 client for a transition period, since it's impractical to change all user's environments to openssh in one go. I have converted

Questions about inferred state machines for OpenSSH
Dear all, For my thesis, I've been working on automatic inference of state machines for SSH servers. I ran into a couple of particularities regarding OpenSSH's inferred state machine, and was hoping some of you might be interested. Maybe you can even shed some light on it. Setup: I'm using LearnLib's (Java) version of the L* learning algorithm [1] to come up with sequences of

OpenSSH 5.4p1- scp sending extra "--"
Hi, I found that in older versions of OpenSSH up to 5.3 when I type "scp <user>@<machineIP>:<filename> ." internally the command sent to the <machineIP> is scp -f <filename> but with OpenSSH 5.4 the internal command is now scp -f -- <filename>. I believe the same thing was propagated to OpenSSH 5.5 since the same thing was seen with it. The problem

5.4p1 and FIPS 140-2
My office is working with government contracts, and it appears that they are wanting FIPS enabled OpenSSL and OpenSSH is coming in the next year. We have been able to compile OpenSSL to create the container, but all the diffs to enable FIPS 140-2 in OpenSSH are for 5.3p1. Will the diffs from: https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/attachment.cgi?id=1789&action=edit build in 5.4p1 will a little

TISviaPAM patch
Here is a patch that does TIS auth via PAM. It's controlled by a switch in the sshd_config. You'd use it by having a PAM module that sets PAM_PROMPT_ECHO_ON. eg, you could use it with pam_skey or pam_smxs. The patch is against the 2.9.9p2 distribution. I'm not on the list, a reply if this patch is accepted would be great. (But not required, I know some folks have a distaste for
