[PATCH] Drop SETGROUPS_NOOP
Hi, the SETGROUPS_NOOP define is used only for Cygwin. But it's also combined with the HAVE_SETGROUPS test in bsd-misc.c. So, since setgroups() exists and is functional in Cygwin, this is actually a noop in the more general sense. The below patch drops that entirely. Read buffer size in clientloop.c
Hi, when trying to optimize socket transfer rates under Cygwin, it turned out that the underlying WinSock implementation is surprisingly sensitive to buffer sizes. The latest Cygwin from CVS is now setting the socket receive/send buffers (SO_RCVBUF/SO_SNDBUF) to 64K, rather than keeping them at their default values of 8K which thwarts data transfers a lot. While testing I still had the problem

[PATCH] Remove setting IP_TOS_IS_BROKEN for Cygwin
Hi, The problem that setsockopt(IP_TOS) doesn't work on Cygwin is long fixed. Ages ago Microsoft changed the definition for IP_TOS when moving from winsock1 to winsock2 and IP_TOS in Cygwin didn't work all these years because nobody (that's especialy me) realized that we were still using the old winsock1 value. This has been fixed since 2005, though. Patch below. Corinna Index:

rlimit sandbox on cygwin
Hi all. I have an old windows VM with an oldish cygwin that I use for the regression tests. Investigating one of the test failures, I see that it's for UsePrivilegeSeparation=sandbox, and it seems to be because setrlimit(RLIMIT_FSIZE, ...) is not supported. IMO, this isn't a big loss, since the most useful thing in the rlimit "sandbox" is the descriptor limits. Can anyone see

[PATCH]: configure.in
Hi, it would be nice if somebody could apply the following patch. After some months of maintaining the Cygwin version of OpenSSH it finally turned out that USE_PIPES is the better option for Cygwin. It's working more reliable than socketpairs and it's WAY faster. Index: configure.in =================================================================== RCS file:

[PATCH]: Remove HAVE_CYGWIN in favor of NO_IPPORT_RESERVED_CONCEPT
Hi, I've sent that patch once already but it seems more or less forgotten in the tumultuous days of the latest vulnerability. It adds a new define NO_IPPORT_RESERVED_CONCEPT which can be defined on platforms not supporting the concept of "privileged" ports only accessible by privileged users but which allow everyone to use these ports. This patch removes some Cygwin dependencies

uid transition and post-auth privsep (WAS Re: possible fundamental problem with tru64 patch) (fwd)
What do we loose by not having post-auth privsep? What code is executed between authorization and actual setting of the effective uid? [PATCH]: Fix configure.ac to allow linking against PCRE on Cygwin
Hi, the current configure.ac file contains an unfortunately static setting of $LIBS when the host system is Cygwin. It always adds -lregex to $LIBS before the --with-pcre setting is evaluated. The later adding of -lpcreposix -lpcre doesn't work correctly since it follows later in the link order. The following patch changes that. The static $LIBS setting in the Cygwin case doesn't

OpenSSH 3.7p1, PrivSep, and Tru64 broken (sorry)
Well, I had just finally gotten around to downloading a snapshot to test the latest on Tru64 a couple of days ago but hadn't had a chance to build it yet, and 3.7p1 has now been released. Sigh. The problem is that Tru64 setreuid() and setregid() are broken, so privsep doesn't work. This could also be a security problem for SIA authentication in general (any version of OpenSSH on Tru64,

Update for Tru64 Unix
Here is a long-overdue (sorry about that) patch for Tru64. It is pretty minor mostly (minor formatting and removal of a couple of unneeded calls), and it disables post-auth privsep (so that OpenSSH will work "out of the box" on Tru64, avoiding the many questions). I'm also looking at getting setproctitle working. For Tru64 4.x, it isn't a big deal (normal PS_USE_CLOBBER_ARGV

Problem with enabling /etc/default(s)/login on Cygwin
Hi, below is a patch which simply removes a Cygwin-specific piece of code from OpenSSH. Input from a system admin educated me how useful this option could be on Cygwin as well. However, way back when the call to read_etc_default_login got disabled on Cygwin hardcoded in session.c, rather than just setting --disable-etc-default-login when building the Cygwin version of OpenSSH. So, here's

Patch for unformatted manpages
The attached patch (relative to the current CVS snapshot) uses a perl script to convert the OpenSSH manpages from the BSD -mdoc format to the -man format used by other systems. This allows the unformatted manpages to be installed normally, rather than defaulting to preformatted pages. I'd like to see this patch integrated into the portable version of OpenSSH. Please let me know what you

ssh hangs or gives Segmentation fault
Details of installation attached. Effect: when I build and test (with full path names) ssh in the openssh... directory, everything works fine. When I "install" it as per attached file into a test-directory and run it from there, there are 2 phenomena: either it just hangs, eating 96% of CPU or it dies with a Segmentation fault (this is what happens most often) Help needed
