openssh ssh_askpass problem / question
Dear list,
I have set up SSH with the SSH_ASKPASS and DISPLAY variable set.
Everything works perfectly. When ssh is used without a tty, the askpass
program is executed, providing the password.
But when I change the location of the askpass program, so it contains a
space in the absolute path name (for example "c:\My Documents\askpass")
the askpass program cannot be found. I get a

SSH_ASKPASS behavior change proposal
Hello, OpenSSH Developers!
I'm not a member of the OpenSSH development team or a member of this
mailing list. I have a small change to propose for OpenSSH and since
the mailing list page at openssh.com indicated the general discussion
list is for support, I thought this list would be a better place to
discuss this. Please forgive me if I've committed a faux pas.
I propose that the

Queries on ssh_askpass
Hi,
I had developed a program which spawns a shell where i am trying to use ssh
commands to log into a linux server.
There is a pop up dialog window which is prompting me for key-ing the
password.
Actually i want to get rid of this pop up dialog box, as i don't want this
to be visible in my program/code execution.
Could you please let me know is there any way to resolve and stop this

Regarding SSH_ASKPASS
I've been giving SSH_ASKPASS a hard look, and it's not clear to
me how it's supposed to work. The documentation (ssh.1) seems
explicit enough:
SSH_ASKPASS
If ssh needs a passphrase, it will read the passphrase from the
current terminal if it was run from a terminal. If ssh does not
have a terminal associated with it but DISPLAY and SSH_ASKPASS
are set, it will execute

Force reading with SSH_ASKPASS?
Hi,
I'm looking at integrating sftp into a larger project. It would be nice if
there was a way to force read_passphrase() (in readpass.c) to use SSH_ASKPASS
regardless of the properties of the terminal.
This would be easy enough to do, an environment variable or a new flag
definition would achieve this (I'm using an environment variable for
convenience at the moment). Would anyone

0.12.4 dies with call SetTlsParms before
I upgraded from 12.2 to 12.4 and found that my happy little eventmachine
processes die with:
terminate called after throwing an instance of ''std::runtime_error''
what(): call SetTlsParms before calling StartTls
Here''s what I believe is the relevant snippet of my code, which calls
start_tls() in the connection_completed() callback:

Rsync / ssh high cpu load
Hi everybody,
I am using Cygwin rsync/ssh to synchronize my files from my home computer to
my server. I raised a question on the Cygwin list as well, but thought this
list would be appropriate too.
The issue is that the CPU on the sending side is fully allocated by
rsync/ssh (both taking 50%) during a file transfer. This is the command I
use:
rsync -e ssh * <user>@<server>:/data

using ssh-add unattended on dubious files -- how can i avoid a hang?
I need ssh-add to fail cleanly if it tries and fails to read a key,
rather than prompting the user. I can't seem to figure out how to do
that.
This is on a Linux 2.6.26 system, running OpenSSH 5.1p1 (as built on
debian lenny/sid)
First, the things i've tried:
* i've unset the DISPLAY and SSH_ASKPASS environment variables, so no
X11-style prompting should happen.
* i've

Accessing SSH key path using SSH_ASKPASS and passwordstore
Hello,
With the introduction of SSH_ASKPASS_REQUIRE in version 8.4, I've set
up a script for SSH_ASKPASS to query my local passwordstore
(https://www.passwordstore.org/) vault to retrieve the password for a
given key. This works for ssh-add as well as ssh (configured with
AddKeysToAgent set to 'yes'). My workflow effectively transforms into
entering the password for the GPG key used

Help on rsync delete option
Hello,
Any help on the following issue will be appreciated.
How do I delete files or directories in my first level of directory that is
specified as host. Here is an example :
rsync -avz --delete ${SOURCE_HOST}:/mlinkfam/extract/sccs/pa/*
/mlinkfam/extract/sccs/pa
Giving above command I find redundant files or directory not getting deleted
from the first level of target directory

xdgurl
Has anyone figured out how to make Firefox 45.4.0 on CentOS 6 use xdgurl
to handle xdg:// URLs?
Google is full of suggestions that don't work. When I select a an
xdg:// link I don't get a dialog asking me what to do like Google says I
will. Instead I get a message that says Firefox doesn't have a clue how
to handle this URL. Do you want to try again?
I tried about:config

Rsync spawning a child process when pulling files ?
Hi,
I am using rsync 3.0.4 on a WinXP machine (with CygWin) to synchronize my
files to a RedHat Linux server. Everything is working perfectly, but there
is one thing I do not understand.
Apparently there is a difference in pushing and pulling files with rsync.
When I push my files to the server with this command, I see one rsync
process on my WinXP machine, just as expected
rsync -rlt -e
