Samba 4 slow write
Hello Ervin,
The in-memory cache lookup could be added back into
samba-4.1.6 by applying the attached patch,
if it could be compiled with Louis how-to steps,
perhaps got the chance to make U14.04 be stayed on samba-4.
Here is my test,
the test-bench is uploading 5000 files and each one is 1MB.
The attached patch could improve 15% at case B).
Case A) Original samba-4.1.6

Samba 4 slow write
Hi Jones,
many thanks again four your help and your time.
Thanks for the patch too - I'll check it up.
On my Ubuntu, there is a Samba 4.1.6. I'll install the samba
source package, and will try to apply the patch, then - I hope -
the package will be compiled as well.
I'll notify to you about the result. (First, I need to upgrade
that server.)
Thanks again,
Ervin

Samba 4 slow write
Hi Jones,
many thanks for your reply.
Yepp, I'm using ACL's (Posix ACL's) on filesystem to regulate the
access of users for files and directories.
Do you mean that this is the "normal" way? These geteuid and
getegid system calls are so slow?
On the previous system (Debian Wheezy, Samba 3) I've also used
ACL's, but there were much faster than this...

Samba 4.3.11 accessing disk every minute
The latest version that Western Digital has shipped with the My cloud devices accesses the disk
about twice a minute. The access to /dev/sda2 is causing the system to keep the disk from going
into standby mode. I don't understand the call to quotactl every minute when no one is trying to access the share.
An strace of one of the processes shows the following:

Why is a windows 10 pro system issuing a sequence of smb2 commands every 30 seconds or so?

Not sure why this sequence starts or stops. But it can run for hours at a time. This is

Problem with Share Size
Hi all,
I have a problem with samba : I can create files, but can't create directories.
The server has many shares, on seperated disks.
We consider two of them : one 2Tb share and one share with more than 7Tb.
Samba configuration is good, and works on many other servers, and on this one except for the large share. Permissions are correctly setted up too.
I can read/write files and

convert plugin fails - drops root privileges then tries to create file in /
Hi
I just tried to run the convert plugin as described at
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Convert
(except with mail_location = maildir:~/Mail)
It fails with an error message:
Eopen(/.temp.falcon.endbracket.net.18618.8d5e0a038da6cf06) failed:
Permission denied
Error: imap dump-capability process returned 89
It looks like Dovecot execs /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap, which drops root
privileges

I have vorbis-tools 1.1 (also tested on svn version), I have problem
with play any ogg vorbis file as user rmrmg:
[rmrmg@slack:~$] ogg123 ./av/lep.ogg
Segmentation fault
All works fine as _any_ other user. I have not any ~/.libao file. What
can be the reason of my problem? Do you have any idea?

rsync on cygwin is hanging
I am trying to backup a Windows machine to a Linux machine using rsync
(over ssh).
I have been able to successfully sync a few files at a time, but when I
try to backup an entire tree the process hangs on both machines.
I believe this is a different problem than one posted on here before,
but I did try this patch with no success:

Strange Hang over ssh
rsync-2.4.6-1 RPM on receiving side on Red Hat 7.3
rsync-2.4.6-13 Red Hat 7.2 RPM on sending side
Trying to do a "pull" from sender over ssh, rsync hangs after transferring very little data, usually on the first or second file.
