smbpasswd truncates password to 8 chars on Solaris sparc?
Good Day. In June, I posted a small query under the Subject of
_odd smbpasswd / smbclient error from Linux to Solaris_
Briefly, a Solaris sparc server running 3.0.25a would not accept passwords
from the Linux smbclient program if the password was 9 characters or greater.
Instead, one would get this:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
but it worked fine with the Solaris sparc

Compiling R-2.12.1 with gcc 3.4.6 on Sun Sparc Solaris 10
Dear R-HELP,
We are compiling R-2.12.1 for 64 bits onto a Sun Sparc machine below:
SunOS 5.10 Generic_142900-13 sun4u sparc SUNW,Netra-T12
The source was compiled successfully with "gcc version 3.4.6" by using the
default configuration and has produced R-2.12.1 in 32 bits.
Compiling R-2.12.1 for the 64 bits by configuring the config.site file as

Error trying to compile 2.6.0 on Solaris 9 Sparc with gcc 3.2
Hi.
I'm trying to compile rsync 2.6.0 on Solaris 9 Sparc, using gcc 3.2.
The configure script seems to run with no problem.
But when I go ahead to make, I get the following error output:

[LLVMdev] llvm-gcc-4.2 RELEASE_26 bootstrap failure on Solaris/SPARC - unhandled REAL_TYPE during compilation of '__powitf2'
Anton,
I went with the first alternative with some success.
However, now I get some errors during the build of libgcc
with 'multiply defined symbols'.
One thing I noticed is the following fact:

[LLVMdev] Solaris SPARC llvm-gcc front-end
Hello.
How are the things going with the llvm-gcc for SPARC and Solaris OS? I have
discovered recently the fact, that the code is still in the "patches
welcome" stage and is far even from being successfully built on SPARC. I
would like to know, if anyone maintaining this code, what is the current
to-do list, etc. I would like to offer my help for gcc front-end on SPARC
project.

[LLVMdev] llvm-gcc-4.2 RELEASE_26 bootstrap failure on Solaris/SPARC - unhandled REAL_TYPE during compilation of '__powitf2'
Hello, Juergen

The answer is simple. The code in question contains extended IEEE FP
argument / return type (aka 'long double'). By default it's lowered
into struct {double, double} as you already saw and sparc currently
does not provide any argument layout hooks.

Successfully building 2.3.1 with Sun One Studio 8 on Solaris 9 (SPARC)
I had a hard time building 1.9.1 with the Sun One Studio
on Solaris (SPARC) almost 2 years ago. I filed a bug report,
but I can't seem to find it right now. For 2.3.1, I discovered
that the same problems remain. Here are the tricks that
resolved them for me if anyone is interested.
#1. /usr/lib/cpp will give you nothing, but headaches.
Fortunately, the Solaris Software Companion CD (SSCC)

[LLVMdev] llvm-gcc-4.2 RELEASE_26 bootstrap failure on Solaris/SPARC - unhandled REAL_TYPE during compilation of '__powitf2'
Hi all,
I'm currently trying to bootstrap llvm-gcc-4.2 from the latest stable LLVM release 2.6
on Solaris SPARC.
The compilation with a self-build gcc-4.2.4 goes pretty well, however, I hit
a seemingly widely know error during llvm-gcc's bootstrap in getting
an assertion during the compile of /data/LLVM/src/GCC/RELEASE_26/gcc/libgcc2.c:

I'm running into problems while trying to build libvorbis. My build
