problems with 3.7.1p1 on IRIX (again)
Hi, I've seen a few messages re. problems with 3.7.1p1 on IRIX 6.5... I'm using 6.5.19 and having no trouble compiling, installing and starting, but sshd just closes the connection with no explanation. debug/verbose modes don't seem to give any clues. Darren Tucker suggested defining BROKEN_GETADDRINFO in config.h, but I find that compilation then fails (assuming I've implemented

[PATCH] Use canonical hostname for DNS SSHFP lookup
In the current implementation, ssh always uses the hostname supplied by the user directly for the SSHFP DNS record lookup. This causes problems when using the domain search path, e.g. I have "search example.com" in my resolv.conf and then do a "ssh host", I will connect to host.example.com, but ssh will query the DNS for an SSHFP record of "host.", not

Current CVS broken on AIX: conflicting types for `gai_strerrorĀ“
Hi All, After finding out my AIX boxes haven't been updating their tinderbox[0] test trees (grr) and fixing that, I found that recent changes caused build errors on AIX 4.3.3 & 5.1. 4.2.1 appears OK. The error is: gcc -g -O2 -Wall -Wpointer-arith -Wno-uninitialized -I. -I.. -I../../openbsd-compat -I../../openbsd-compat/.. -I/usr/local/ssl/include -I/usr/local/include -DHAVE_CONFIG_H

5.1p build problem on SCO OSR6
Build of 5.1p1 fails on SCO OSR6 with the error: UX:acomp: ERROR: "addrmatch.c", line 100: undefined struct/union member: sin6_scope_id configure checks for presence of struct sockaddr_in6 and uses the system declaration if found (via #define HAVE_STRUCT_SOCKADDR_IN6 in config.h) If not found, the struct is declared in openbsd-compat/fake-rfc2553.h. A question on Compilation errors...
Hello I am attempting to build on a LynxOS platform and am using a old version of zlib and OpenSSL-0.9.6a. I get past the configure stage by ignoring the zlib version check. However, at make stage I run into the following undefineds. Any idea what may be causing this. I am using version 3.8p1 of OpenSSH. Thank you in advance for your response Amba (cd openbsd-compat && make)

Cross-compiling asterisk-1.4 for Debian on a slug
Hi folks! I planned to put asterisk-1.4 on my slug (one of these embedded devices). Since i don't want to compile it natively on this slow processor, i need a cross-compile toolchain. I tried out several ways such as manually compiling binutils and gcc, or using scratchbox. All of these with the result that i got binaries for machines except the one i wanted! :( I then have been given a link

getnameinfo() call and fake-rfc2553.c
Hello All, Im using OpenSSH 4.2p1. The getnameinfo() call in my system libc is broken and as a result SSH fails saying getnameinfo failed:host nor service provided. Im thinking of using getnameinfo() call available from openbsd-compat directory to get rid of this problem. As this is a production system, we can't make changes without convincing my syadmin and managers. I understand that

ssh not resolving host names on HP-UX 11i
Actually it really never was answered, but here's how I fixed (worked around) it. At first I thought installing patch PHNE_27796 (libnss_dns DNS backend patch) had fixed it. It didn't. It just flip-flopped the problem. Prior to installing that patch, ssh would never go to DNS no matter what was in nsswitch.conf. It appeared to only look in /etc/hosts. After installing the patch, ssh

IPv4/v6 socket problem on BSD
Currently, if IPv6-enabled rsync is run as --daemon, it will perform a wildcard bind(2) on an AF_INET6 socket and expect that IPv4 traffic will be forwarded to the v6 socket (IPv4 mapped address, RFC2553). This has never worked on OpenBSD which disallows IPv4 mapped addresses for security reasons. On FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT, where the behavior is subject to configuration, the default was switched to

darwin getaddrinfo
in configure.ac, we AC_DEFINE(BROKEN_GETADDRINFO) for *-darwin-* platforms. recent Darwin fixed getaddrinfo to work as specified in RFC2553, so the case clause is not needed for recent Darwin. still not sure when it was corrected. anyone has a clue? itojun

[PATCH tftpd-hpa] tftpd: don't use AI_CANONNAME and AI_ADDRCONFIG to resolve addresses for bind
AI_CANONNAME is only relevant when the resulting official name is used, which is not the case in tftpd for the address to bind to. Also AI_ADDRCONFIG isn't helpful. This flag is good for sockets used to connect(2) somewhere. But for listening sockets it makes tftpd fail to start when -a 0.0.0.0:69 is passed and no network device is up yet. This addresses Debian bug

[PATCH] Fix typos, OpenBSD + Portable
Hi. Whenever I notice a typo someplace, I fix it in a local "typo tree". Attached is 2 patches from that tree, one against OpenBSD and the other against Portable. ssh hangs or gives Segmentation fault
Details of installation attached. Effect: when I build and test (with full path names) ssh in the openssh... directory, everything works fine. When I "install" it as per attached file into a test-directory and run it from there, there are 2 phenomena: either it just hangs, eating 96% of CPU or it dies with a Segmentation fault (this is what happens most often) Help needed

ssh can't resolve hostnames thru WINS
[Please CC me, I'm not on the list] My box is on a mostly Windows-populated network. Naturally, I set up Samba and added WINS as a name resolution option. I found out that some programs now can use NetBIOS names, other can't. openssh falls into latter category :-( I found that openssh use this snippet to convert hostname to ip: if((gaierr = getaddrinfo(host, strport, &hints,

Unhelpful error message when matching hosts in access list [PATCH]
Greetings, As previously reported by me to the Debian bug tracking system: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- An access list in rsyncd.conf may contain hostnames as well as addresses. It may contain several patterns to match against. address_match (in access.c) does this by trying to match hostname and address against each of the patterns until a match is

xmalloc(foo*bar) -> xcalloc(foo, bar) for Portable
Hi All. While wandering in auth-pam.c I noticed that there's a few Portable-specific escapees from the xmalloc(foo * bar) cleanup. There's also a "probably can't happen" integer overflow in ssh-rand-helper.c with the memset: num_cmds = 64; - entcmd = xmalloc(num_cmds * sizeof(entropy_cmd_t)); + entcmd = xcalloc(num_cmds, sizeof(entropy_cmd_t));
