Computing window sizes and adjustments
In SSHv2, the data that consumes window space is that sent in the
channel data and channel data extended messages. My question is, how
is the data that consumes window space reckoned? One would have
thought that it is the total length of the message itself, but the
standard seems to imply that only the data contained in the data
string field in the messages above is to be taken into account. That

Deciding when to adjust the window size
What is the algorithm adopted by OpenSSH when it comes to deciding
when to adjust the size of window? I would have thought that one'd
better adjust the window size as soon as it has fallen below the
maximum packet size. What worries me is a potential deadlock, in which
one party does not send anything, because the window is too small for
its next window space-consuming packet, while the other

Winbindd has still bottlenecks when used with interdomain trusts.

Greetings!
I run samba 3 since several years in a domain with more than 10000 users
and multiple departments. We have a central Domain running a PDC and
some domains in the departments. The domains in the
departments are connected to the central domain via interdomain trusts.
All PDCs are samba 3 using the same LDAP backends (very fast SunONE LDAP

Desktop Filesystem Benchmarks in 2.6.3
Unfortunately it is a bit more complex, and the truth is less
complementary to us than what you write. Reiser4's CPU usage has come
down a lot, but it still consumes more CPU than V3. It should consume
less, and Zam is currently working on making writes more CPU efficient.
As soon as I get funding from somewhere and can stop worrying about
money, I will do a complete code review, and

IRC question about consuming stdin
12:39 < eblake> rwmjones: 'nbdkit -s sh -' won't work, neither will 'nbdkit -s curl password=-'
12:40 < eblake> should we have an easier way for plugins to detect whether they can safely consume stdin and/or write to stdout during .config?
12:40 < eblake> and in turn, have nbdkit_read_password() check whether reading from stdin is safe?

Stats question - cox proportional hazards adjustments
Hi useRs,
Many studies of the link between red meat and colorectal cancer use
Cox proportional
hazards with (among other things) a gender covariate.
If it is true that men eat more red meat, drink more alcohol and smoke more than
women, and if it is also true that alcohol and tobacco are known risk
factors then why does
it make sense to "adjust" for gender? I would think that in this

Windows ACL adjustments, permission denied
OK, I found my problem and i am a little ashamed it took me this long to
figure it out but here goes.
The error i was getting when trying to adjust the ACL was "Changes could not
be saved, access is denied"
using Winbind, i had done the following:
#chgrp "MRPARTYK/Domain Users" /ftproot
which left the owner as "root". I have an entry in the /etc/samba/smb.conf

postlogin script - still confused

OK. Thanks. So let me make sure I have this right, since there is no syntax
defined on the wiki - just an example which doesn't show the above syntax.
The valid possibilities are:
executable = script-login [-d] /path/script1

Still confused about Kerberos password expiry
I am running 4.1.6, as both a domain controller and a smb server.
Whenever Kerberos decides my password needs to be changed, I have to
change it on all the other boxes, too.
How can I:
A) Set the Kerberos password to never expire (I should be able to deal
with password changes in Samba-Tool, eh?)
B) Set the Kerberos password complexity off
C) Tell Kerberos to stop remembering old passwords

Still Confused about Firewalling
Hi All,
Sorry, I am still confused about implementing a firewall without
having my ISP static route all of my traffic to my public IP's to a
single public IP.
So before when I have done this for work all traffic has been
statically routed.
Now I have a comcast modem and it is 'pass through' so traffic for all
my 13 IP's is allowed and I have to decide what to do.
So I

Still confused about kerberos password expiry
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
After doing as you suggested, all seems right with the world. At least a
little bit more so.
If I understood this thing better, I would be glad to join your
documentation team. *sigh*

BUG: confusion between next-server and gateway
Hello,
I'am trying to efi-netboot a HP ProLiant DL120 Gen9[1], that has
multiple NICs, one embedded 2-port and an extra 4-port, so I got to the
HP/EFI/multinic problem.
I read through the multinic mailthreads and using current master[2], it
booted successfully to syslinux but then another problem manifested:
Syslinux for some reason asks the gateway and not next-server about

Still confused on content blocks...
I''ve read the docs. Honestly. But, I still can''t get my site working
with the latest gem. I''m confused over when and how I need to specify
content blocks, and how these relate to the stuff in config.yaml.
The specific problem is with my analytics file include, I get errors like this:
An error has occurred: Error while processing

Still confused about classes
Hi,
I'm still confused about how to find out what methods are defined for a
given class. For example, I know that
> today <- Sys.Date()
will produce an object of type Date. But I'm not sure what I can do with
Date objects or how I can find out.
> ?Date
refers me to the Date documentation page. But it doesn't tell me how, for
example, to extract the current year from a
