detachable ssh sessions / ssh terminal server
Hi folks,
is there an solution for an detachable ssh (like an terminal
server, but for text console) ?
I imagine something like what screen(1) does, but integrated
into ssh:
+ if an connection breaks down, the session (an all processes)
remain running an can be re-attached.
+ all active sessions can be queried
+ the output of sessions can be logged and retrieved later

Automatic blacklist of IP-addresses.
One feature that I haven't seen in OpenSSH (It may be there) is an
automatic blacklisting of IP addresses when a certain number of login
attempts are reached from that IP address. It seems like it is popular
these days to try brute force access on password cracking and automatic
blacklisting may limit these attempts.

[PATCH] nasm cleanup
Hi folks,
here's a patch which cleans up the nasm call from Makefiles.
Abusing libtool and then having to drop in some additional
wrapper script to rewrite the commandline again is rather stupid.

CI hardware sponsoring for Xorg / Freedesktop
Hello folks,
I fried of mine offered us a few metric tons of server hardware that we
can use for our CI and testing. He also offered to host and operate it.
The only problem is power costs. At his location (Serbia) power costs
seem to be relatively low compared to average western countries, but
for such a farm still too much for a single hobbyist.
So the vital question now is: can we find any

NFS error 101, again
Hi,
I've got another one... NFS error 101 with NFSROOT has been discussed a
lot, and hpa gave an answer to it which appears right. It's ENETUNREACH,
and I suspect my diskless box does not set its IP parameters right.
PXElinux is set up as follows:

kernel kernel-linvdr
append initrd=initrd-linvdr acpi=off root=/dev/nfs \

FTP Port Forwarding & SSH2_MSG_CHANNEL_DATA question
Hi,
I'm currently working on an FTP utility which contains
SSH2/Port Forwarding functionality. I'm having a problem with
receiving large amounts of data. When I open my forwarding
channel, I give it a Window Size, say about 10K. When I try
to download a file through the forwarded FTP channel, the
SSH2 server (VShell in this case) is only sending over 10K.
Apparently the server will only

Eliminating 'Unprintable ASCII' characters
Hi all,
I have a csv file containing words with *UNPRINTABLE ASCII* characters
(described in the following table).
Are there any viable method in eliminating these characters?
I realise that *EXTENDED ASCII* characters (i.e , ¡, ¢, £, ¤ etc) can be
removed or replaced via *"gsub"* or *"gregexpr"* functions. But am not
certain with the *UNPRINTABLE ASCII* characters.

iaxmodem / hylafax receive problem
Hi,
I'm trying to receive faxes using hylafax / iaxmodem but I just can't
get it to work. We're using Sangoma E1 cards and have calls coming in
over PSTN. I've tried turning hardware echo cancellation off but it
makes no difference. This is what I get in /var/spool/hylafax/log:

bug report: apcsmart (WIN) 940-0024C connect fail, problem with command 'E'
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have several old, yet functioning APC Smart-UPS (Model 600LS, Part AP600I,
Firmware 6JI, no EEPROM, from 1991). They are not supported by Powerchute
any more. I run NUT 2.6.5-4 on Windows XP SP3. I use COM1 port with cable
940-0024C. The connection fails with APC Smart protocol driver 3.0
(2.6.3-3534:3540M), APC command table version 3.0 or higher - it works with

Local software flow control
Good day time!
Using openssh with a serial attached terminal figures with a problem
with flow control when serial terminal has printer connected to it etc.
because ssh disables xon/xoff on associated terminal. At present ssh
client always disables xon/xoff on associated terminal device, regarding
of it's previous state, e.g. ixon and ixoff options were set or not.
