Need Help Using NIS netgroup - Does It Still Work?
Hello; Forgive me for asking on this list, but I've noticed that their has been some recent changes to the code with regards to netgroup.h, and hoping that someone on this list can help, I've already tried the users list. I am having difficulties setting up ssh (ossh4.3p2 with PAM-enabled [DO I NEED IT?] - NIS -Solaris8/Sparc) to authenticate and allow users passwordless entry based

Solaris 8 password inactivity with openssh
All, We have recently updated our password aging to include setting inactivity days. We are running ossh 4.1p1 in a Solaris 8 environment. It appears that ossh isn't picking up on inactivity. Accounts that have been inactive still prompt to change passwords - if you telnet the same servers you get kicked out immediately. On the Solaris 9 servers running SUN's ssh the inactive accounts are

Windows 7 connect to FreeBSD samba
I'm having trouble connecting my windows 7 machine to my Samba server that i set up on a FreeBSD VM. The FreeBSD version is 7.2 and the samba version is 3. I followed the directions here http://www.mrp3.com/windows-to-unix-samba.html to set it up as a domain controller exactly.. except for adding the samba_dns_update script because i didn't find it being asked for in the config file. win clients and sftp
I'm having trouble with users transferring files to a solaris box running ossh v2.3.1p1 via sftp using ssh.com's windows client. The sftp client appears not to respect the users umask, creating files with either mode 666 or 600. We're using version 2.4.0 of the windows client. Any ideas? thanks, -Brett ----------------- Brett Longworth Systems Manager Department of Biology

scp with F-Secure SSH2
Hi! I was browsing through archives and found out that somebody else was having the same problem as I'm. http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=248 from the client, when I run scp to the server, I get: scp: warning: Executing scp1 compatibility. scp: FATAL: Executing ssh1 in compatibility mode failed (Check that scp1 is in your PATH). There are more details about this problem here:

openssh 3.4 solaris pkg & privsep error
Hello, this is MAx Gregis from Italy. I send you this e.mail about privsep error with OSSH 3.4 on Solaris 2.6 an Solaris 7. Usually i find the error of compression disabled if i use SSHD qith inetd daemon. But if i put this entry: sshd:23:respawn:/usr/local/sbin/sshd -D > /dev/null 2>&1 in /etc/inittab ( and after a good "init q" for reading new inittab) In this mode

Long awaited round 1 of NeXT patches.
This is about 90% of the core work. I omited a few files from the patch set since they are basicly small blocks of #ifndef HAVE_NEXT/#endif to get it to compile. Daimen, feel free to let me know what you applied and what your rejecting and why.. so I can work on cleaning things up. Andre, Only thing of note you may want to look into is NeXT does not use "ut_user" in it's lastlog.

[Bug 80] Host key conflict with two servers on one IP
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80 ------- Additional Comments From eric-ossh at brouhaha.com 2002-08-22 04:57 ------- This "HostKeyAlias" business seems like a flimsy excuse for not implmeenting a feature that users want. In this age of ubiquitous firewalls and NAT, it is NOT reasonable to assume that two ports on the same IP address refer to the same host, or to the

restricting access to an NIS netgroup
I am using CentOS 5.7. I have an /etc/security/access.conf file which has the following: + : root : LOCAL + : @mynetgroup : ALL - : ALL : ALL I thought this is supposed to restrict access to the system to only root and the accounts in the mynetgroup netgroup; however, anyone NIS account is still able to login. It appears that the access.conf is being ignored completely, so I'm thinking

Retrieve netgroup information from other sources than NIS?
Dear all, We're using LDAP for user, group and netgroup information. Obviously, samba does not care about /etc/nsswitch.conf when it comes to netgroups and heads for NIS directly, which is what the manpage of smb.conf correctly states. Is there a way to make samba retrieve the netgroup information from LDAP instead of NIS? In case that way is to implement it, may I post this as a feature

Collector not realizing own exported resources when filtering on tags
I''m trying to create a ssh class where the /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts and /etc/ssh/shosts.equiv stays updated. The issue i''m finding is that if I include a "tag == anything" in the Collector filter, it collects all resources EXCEPT it''s own. In this case, the known_hosts and .equiv files will have all the other hostnames, but not it''s own hostname.

known_hosts, IP, and port revisited
I dug through the list archives to see if this had come up before, and I see that a bug <http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=393> was submitted and subsequently closed (basically rejected) in 2002. The basic issue, for those of you who don't feel like following the bug URL, is that when one has ssh servers behind a NAT, each of which responds to a different port on the NAT IP,

SSH and trademarks
Dear SSH community, It has been brought to my attention that is has been disputed whether the term "SSH" can be used freely as a term to describe implementations compatible with the "SSH" protocols, due to trademark issues. In particular, the owner of the "SSH" trademark argues that implementations compatible with the "SSH" protocols shall no longer be

Performance hits from seeding the random number generator
What kind of connection delays are people seeing with Ossh 2.2.0p1?? One of the programmers here is seeing delays of up to 25s, which is clearly unacceptable. He's localized the problem to seeding the random number generator - it appears that the _minimum_ number of commands needed to seed the random number generator is 16. On his hosts (for a variety of reasons), many of those commands

make install error, 4.2p1
Good day and well met. I'm trying to compile and install openssh-4.2p1 on a Sun Ultra-250 running Solaris 8. It's not happy about something. I've searched the bug list and the mail archives but haven't seen another posting about this. Apologies if there is one and my eyes just slid right over it. I've run a configure with the following options, and with no options at

Non-interactive root access via hostbased using shosts.equiv
Hello all! I'm looking for a solution to the following problem - I need to be able to use OpenSSH from root on one system to perform work on several dozen other systems using some automation. The restrictions that have to be met to keep the business happy are that no cleartext passwords or unencrypted private keys can be stored on disk. Since this is within an automated environment, there

OSSH 2.5.2p2: Why is /usr/local/ put into the include & lib p aths under Solaris?
But the main question hasn't been answered: Why is /usr/local placed before user-specified paths? Hypothetical example: You want to link against OpenSSL 0.96 for OpenSSH, but /usr/local contains 0.95, which is needed for something else. (Assume it comes binary only on Solaris for the sake of argument...) --Matt > -----Original Message----- > From: Damien Miller [mailto:djm at

hostbased authentication and the root account
We have a problem using hostbased authentication in combination with the root account. We use hostbased authentication to hop from a 'management server' where we use strong authentication to several systems in a cluster. The management server is defined in shosts.equiv and the public key of this server is defined in ssh_known_hosts. This setup works for all users except for the root user
