I'm trying the different parameters, but don't know what the error is: Error in nlsModel(formula, mf, start, wts) : singular gradient matrix at initial parameter estimates Thanks for any suggestions. Missing dependencies in pkg installs
I had the same thought in the shower this morning but I was disappointed to find that SElinux was disabled on the system. My next step will be to install a previous version of R on the system. My problem is that I am planning a shiny server installation and at least half of the apps on the current system depend on these libraries that will not install. -- W. Michael Conklin EVP Marketing &

fitting cosine curve
Using a more stable nonlinear modeling tool will also help, but key is to get the periodicity right. y=c(16.82, 16.72, 16.63, 16.47, 16.84, 16.25, 16.15, 16.83, 17.41, 17.67, 17.62, 17.81, 17.91, 17.85, 17.70, 17.67, 17.45, 17.58, 16.99, 17.10) t=c(7, 37, 58, 79, 96, 110, 114, 127, 146, 156, 161, 169, 176, 182, 190, 197, 209, 218, 232, 240) lidata <- data.frame(y=y, t=t) #I use the

I'm trying to do something very simple... I wan to plot a histogram where the y axis represent the percentage of the total sample that each bin represents. I know how to plot a histogram with the counts and density... but can't find anything that gives me perenct of sample on the y axis. Any help is appriciated Below is the script I'm working with par(mfrow=c(1,2))

What I did was to plot your initial values, then plot the smoothed values and guess the constants. That is, I got an "eyeball" fit to the smoothed values. As I have described this as "gross cheating" in the past, you should either split your data, estimate on one subset and then test on another, or estimate on your data and test on a replication. If you get pretty much the same

Problem printing with WinXP and samba
I am having problems printing from my XP machine to a printer hosted from a linux redhat 8 w/samba2.2.7-2 installed. I can see the printer fine from \\[server] (browsing from network places) and I can see other shares and stuff, but once I install the printer, it says "access denied, unable to connect". So I'm assuming that I need to set security on a file somewhere, but since

I then decided I wanted to install Flash CS3 so I was following these instructions as best I could: http://wine-review.blogspot.com/2008/03/flash-cs3-and-photoshop-cs3-running-in.html Once this failed, I decided to upgrade wine to the 1.0 version for

Why software fails in scientific research
I came across this notice of an upcoming webinar. The issues identified in the first paragraph below seem to me exactly those that the R project is designed to address. The claim that "most research software is barely fit for purpose compared to equivalent systems in the commercial world" seems to me not quite accurate! Comments! Color2D.matplot uniform color range
Hi all. I am having a problem using color2D.matplot I am trying to visualize several different matrices under two color ranges. One color range corresponds to values less than 1 and the second color range for values greater than 1. However, the minimum value of each matrix differs and is automatically set to have the smallest value in the color range. Similarly, the maximum value of each matrix

Adobe products under Linux?
Also sent to Codeweavers - [what is this list's insights?] I have a 32 GB, dual quad-core desktop machine and was considering 32-bit Windows XP w/SP2, but discovered it only supports up to 4 GB RAM, so that idea is shot. Next in line is 64-bit CentOS 5. The major need for Windows would be very active use of Adobe Acrobat 8, Photoshop CS3, and Illustrator CS3. There may also be the need

Hi guys... I have a dual boot machine with WinXP and Ubuntu 8.03 On Windows I have the CS3 suite working. I need to install it on linux with wine. Is there any success story about Bridge running on Wine? Could it work if i only copy the program files and shared libraries without using the long-uncommon CS3 installer on Wine?

MDL ISIS Draw 2.5 + AutoNom2000 in WINE = need help
Hello, I have successfully installed MDL ISIS Draw 2.5 (a program used in chemistry) under Wine (0.9.12 in Debian). Now, I need to install an addon (AutoNom2000, which is used to give IUPAC names of compounds) for this program. (This addon requires Windows 2000/XP; Wine was configured to "mimic" Windows 98 by default). When I try to run its installer, I get the following:

Problem with Save-As in Photoshop/InDesign on a samba server.
Hi, I have a quite "interesting" problem on a samba server: We (or better: our client) had a WinXP-system with a shared folder with lots of data, which has been replaced with a dedicated fileserver using Samba (on Linux). All data has been migrated and everything seemed to be fine, however Photoshop (CS3) and InDesign have some problems on WinXP: - files can be opened and modified just

understanding I() in lmer formula
Is there a difference between I(x*y) and I(y*x) ? I have a call to lmer that results in this complaint: Error in is.alpha2.subordinate * ~z.min.co.res : non-numeric argument to binary operator when I change this line: I(is.alpha2.subordinate*z.min.co.res)+ to this: I(z.min.co.res*is.alpha2.subordinate)+ the complaint goes away. I'd like to understand why.
